Determining which clients are causing the most index growth?

I have a RAID-6 array of SSDs, 3.5TB in size, on my main mediaagent, that is configured as a single volume that contains both the index folder, and the DDB. For the past 4 months, we’ve seen an explosion of growth on this volume, almost doubling. My linux file server admin believes that one of our customer’s research projects is creating millions of small files, editing them over a few days, then deleting them; i.e. inode growth and free space is about the same, but of course commvault is needing to track and retain this information in each incremental backup.We added another SSD to the array in early June to hold off the array getting full, but as you can see, the massive growth continues.Our backup retention strategy is 3x incremental backups every day, Sunday through Friday, and Saturday is used exclusively to create a synth full of the weekly incrementals. At the end of each month, the last saturday’s synth full is retained, and all other incrementals and synth fulls are aged out.

Total Data to Process vs Back-end Size

I started a quick (Full) DDB Verification Job to determine how much space can be recovered with DDB Space Reclamation and I am wondering if the Total Data to Process is somewhat equivalent to Back-end size. Is it right? I'm re-reading the guide “Deduplication Building Block Guide” and planning some changes. Maybe adding more nodes. One more question regarding Back-end size (for Disk Storage). In the context of “Deduplication Building Block Guide”, Is “DDB Disk” a partition? If yes, so a setup with “4 Node with 2 DDB Disk per node” = 4 servers with Media Agent software installed with 2 partitions each one?

Intelligent AirGap flow

Hi,I am currently testing with Airgap technology to make aux/offline copies to an isolated environment with WORM enabled. To explain the situation bit more this is how it works -- see picture below.FYI; to Power On/Off the MA’s I use the Workflow: Airgap which commvault provided.To make it more intelligent I created an PoSH which checks all the jobs that is being initiated by the AirGap Schedule Policy and if all the jobs contains: ‘completed’, ‘completed with errors’ or ‘failed’, the machines are going down using the Workflow.Now I know there are some Administrative Jobs that has to run as well like;Data AgingDDB BackupsData verificationReclamation etc...Ofcourse I can make this part of the PoSH script before Power Off the MA’s but is it smart to do? Is there anyone who has experience with the administrative processes and this technology below?

Force setting Snapdiff v1

Morning,We’ve recently updated from 11.24.34 to 11.24.52, and are receiving “Unable to start SnapDiff V2 session” events. I see in the patchnotes for 11.24.49 that snapdiff will now attempt v2 before falling back to v1. Our infrastructure is setup for Snapdiff v1, is there a global setting I can modify to stop the commserve attempting to use SnapDiff v2? I was unable to find anything with a search of the documentation.Thanks.

SQL backup - failed to generate collect file

Hi.We have an issue with one SQL servers which fails with the error message:Failed to generate collect file - path \Jobresults\JobResults\CV_JobResults\2\0\1172210\DiffDBList.cvfThe C:\program files\ commvault and folder below have Everyone - Full contrallThis is a SQL cluster.But the strange thing is that the job sometimes have a successful completion. Elasticsearch Backup using SSL/TLS

We have deployed the Elasticsearch Backup and Restore workflows and found that the URL references within them are using http://. We prefer to use encryption so is it as simple as changing the (4 in Backup / 13 in Restore) actions from http:// to https:// ?

VMware Cloud Director v10.4 Support

Last month VMware released VCD 10.4 which is an exciting release for a lot of VMware Cloud Providers. But this time they also deprecated a lot of older API versions including the API version that is being used by Commvault. We currently run FR26 which uses API version 31 to communicate with VCD so we cannot upgrade to VCD 10.4 and it's also not listed as part of the supported version in the FR28/2022e documentation.I heard rumours support will be added in a FR28 (2022e) maintenance release somewhere in the near future, but I hope someone can be more clear on when we can expect VCD 10.4 to be supported. GCP CROSS REGION/ZONE BACKUP RETORES USING MULTI-NIC MEDIA AGENT

Introduction As a part of backup infrastructure implementation, using GCP (Google Cloud Platform) shared VPC’s (Virtual Private Cloud) to come up with multi-NIC media agent setup for CommVault infrastructure. This opened doors to backup data from one tier and restore the same across another tier. This has reduced the overall time and cost to migrate data to a separate client over the GCP network. Question about honeypot files

Hello everyone,I have an alert from CommVault that says:Description: A suspicious file [D:\ArielDB\Customers\APS\Ariel\Sets\Prd\Temp\hwot5ftk.afd] is detected on the machine [SRV-PRDP101]. Please alert your administrator.I read in https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11_sp20/article?p=7879_1.htm that “A Honeypot file placed by Commvault mimics this user document and baits ransomware into encrypting this file.” This server is a virtual machine that acts as a file server for our production system and has the “restore only” client installed. Because it is the restore only client, I believe that there’s no way for CommVault to place a honeypot file there to check for malware encryption. Is this correct? Is there a way to check the honeypot file(s) placed on a server by CommVault?Ken

I'm trying to assemble a list, for customer billing based on companies, of unique client object who are protected by all forms of protection methods. So think of application-level, file-system-level and VM-level and all within the scope of a company. So I though this would be an easy walk in the park by enumerating views:Lic_CUR_ProtectedVMs_vw - to retrieve a list of VMs who are protected on VM-level Lic_CUR_VOIs_vw - to retrieve a list of VM's who are protected using an agent.I would then make sure to filter out the duplicatie objects (I will have to do some filtering machine as I'm already noticing duplicate client computer with an _ in their names) and to remove the clients from the output of Lic_CUR_VOIs_vw who exist in the output of Lic_CUR_ProtectedVMs_vw because I want to make sure we capture all VMs running on an on-premise cloud platform which doesn't support VM-level protection.Now I'm running into an issue in where the output of Lic_CUR_VOIs_vw is not showing clients who I

We have problem with backing up Oracle database via RMAN on Linux server. CommVault version is 11.20.9. workflow query

Can anyone have workflow for below steps ? we would need to run the workflow as the first step and then the workflow would have a box that pops up asking for the name of the Client we want to decommission where we input the client name.Then we want the workflow to remove the client from all the groups it is part of (with the exception of automated client groups).Next we want the workflow to turn off backup activity of the client.Next we want the workflow to add the client to the decommissioned group.

I recently updated v9 to v11 and the next day I got this error “62:224 Failed to get media information for the volume. Failed to mount media with unique ID” and the backup didn’t run as scheduled. I can’t even restore anything.

Customization of Windows Firewall for Adminconsole

Hello We have a separate VM that provides the Commvault WebServer/Adminconsole.We have now noticed that not all information is available in the web console. An example is the information in the report "DDB Dashboard", here no data is displayed.The only thing that has been changed is the Windows firewall. I have enabled port 443 and 80,81 so far. According to my information these ports should be sufficient. Which ports do I have to release on the CommServe and the WebServer to get all data displayed again?Kind RegardsThomas

Auxiliary copy picking up backup job other than selective copy

Hello Guys,In my CommVault setup, I have selected scheduled monthly first full backup job in auxiliary copy as shown in below screen snap, but its still selecting additional backup which triggered manually from HANA command line. Similarly, if the command line triggers the add on job, it did not considered as first full of that month and picked up another scheduled job for auxiliary. is any specific setting I have to consider which will not select the command line backup jobs triggered from HANA command line, this is happening specific to HANA DB backup.

Restore Exchange DB Failed

Hello, I have issue with live browsing of Exchange recovery point. I am getting next error : Cannot connect with Exchange Mining process, please check service running status on live browse server. I made commvault case 220731-163. But i want to ask here aswell if someone had same issue.Somewhere in juni restore worked correctly on the same MA Once thing i change after is commvault hotfix to 11.25.44 The MA and Exchange have same patch. I tryed restore offline DB to MA, but after restore getting same error at browsing. I uploaded some logs aswell.
