Hi, We have 2 Windows Commvault Servers.Previously, none of them could do a LiveBrowse for Windows VMs during a Guest Files and Folders restore task. After we put Commvault exclusion on our anti-virus (SentinelOne), and turned off Firewalls on them, the LiveBrowse is now working on Windows Commvault Server No.1, but still not working on the Windows Commvault Server No.2 which always fails with LiveBrowse error code -6, failed to initialize VM disks. The 2 Servers are very similar except thatThe No. 1 uses local disks as disk library, whereas No. 1 uses a NAS as disk library. Hello, I have some issue with finishing on time with FS Agent backup, the widow time is 6 hours. Till 2 weeks ago i had no probleem with scanning and then starting backup., but now the scan taking to long and then starting of backup taking to long aswell.  Here is some logs of last failed backup. The backup staerting at 2AM, the scan finished at 5AM, there is 3 hour more to take the backup and 8 am the job wil be killed because of run time.  The amount of files is not really changed

Hello Everyone,i need help to get clarification about o365 retention and where should be controlled. In Commandcenter, i have o365 Backup Plan as Server Plan Type which associated w/ storage Policy, and o365 Plan as office 365 Plan Type which also has retention option.Ideally our required retentions as follows:Daily incremental to keep for 60 days Monthly Full w/ 12 months retentionhowever, it is said that o365 is forever incremental, Monthly full may not be available.Questions:which retention should it be managed, storage policy or o365 Plan? if Monthly full is not available, how would you recommend configuring retentions as alternative? Also, does retention policies under Commcell-->Policies-->Configuration policies→ Exchange Policies applicable to o365 exchangeonline backup? or it is the same controls in o365 Plan retention settings?thank you for your feedback

I would like to deploy a new CommServe server on Linux using SP 11.40. My current CommServe is running on Windows with SP 11.36. I plan to set up the new CommServe as a standby node in advance.Could you advise on the best practices for this setup?The operating system I am using is Rocky Linux. Then manually enter the duration in my report.For this, is there a shortcut from Reports or some other option? Where I can fetch the highest duration by agent type for a range of dates. [INSTANCE PROPERTIES VALIDATION FAILED. PLEASE CHECK DB CREDENTIALS.]"I contacted the SAP HANA team. I was told that DATABASE is online and operational. And the user "backup" has the credentials OK. I asked for a password reset.However, none of this resolved. Error persists.

Hi,I restored the Commserver DR backup to another server. This is the first time I’m doing this so after restore I noticed that the configured disk and tape library in the destination server has changed reflecting the disk and tape library from the original server. I tried to add the destination server as another media agent but it is not allowing. How do i proceed to use the tape and disk library in the destination server after the restore?Please advise.  

I have a RAID-6 array of SSDs, 3.5TB in size, on my main mediaagent, that is configured as a single volume that contains both the index folder, and the DDB. For the past 4 months, we’ve seen an explosion of growth on this volume, almost doubling. My linux file server admin believes that one of our customer’s research projects is creating millions of small files, editing them over a few days, then deleting them; i.e. inode growth and free space is about the same, but of course commvault is needing to track and retain this information in each incremental backup.We added another SSD to the array in early June to hold off the array getting full, but as you can see, the massive growth continues.Our backup retention strategy is 3x incremental backups every day, Sunday through Friday, and Saturday is used exclusively to create a synth ful

NetApp is currently selling the successor to the ASA (SAN Only), the ASAr2, at an attractive price. Basically, it is a system from the ONTAP family, like the FAS or AFF systems. Unfortunately, the API has changed considerably, and Commvault does not yet support the ASAr2 API. I’ve heard that integration is being worked on. Is there a timeline for this?We have a few projects where Commvault (new customer) and NetApp would be a good combination.

Hello,we are running DB2 backup AIX LPAR. We have noted that CPU load is high“In virtualized environments (e.g.,LPAR, WPAR, Solaris Zones etc.,) where dedicated CPUs are not allocated, backup jobs may result in high CPU usage on production servers. The following measures can be taken to optimize the CPU usage”Best Practices - AIX File System (commvault.com) The steps were covered and additional registry keys to limit CPU load and core usage were set in place. Switching deduplication to MediaAgent didn’t provided sufficient change, almost no CPU consumption change was in place. Only jobs without deduplication consumes less CPU, but we cannot use them. At the end we can limit CPU load to 50-60% from up to 90%, but it impacts the backup duration few times. Playin

Hi, We are currently running 11.24.48. After the upgrade from 11.24.29 to 11.24.34, I was unable to log in to the Commcell Console using my AD admin account.Web Console works fine, and I can log in there without any problems.For the time being, the only way to log in to Commcell Console is using a local admin account. Is there a parameter or a setting that prevents us using our AD credentials since 11.24.34? Upgrading to 11.24.48 hasn’t solved this issue.Thank you,Zoltan

I’m looking for functionality similar to the old nExpireUpdates key, but built for how things work in v11 -- where the CVMedia folder could be programmatically removed from the clients following successful install (or after X days).We are an MSP and many of our client machines are very tight on free space.  So I’m looking for a way to prune/expire/delete the CVMedia folder from clients. Is there a way to do this?I realize the reasons why this folder is kept on the clients - but we do not frequently install service packs/hotfix packs due to change control.  We have some clients where we don’t have enough free space to write job results, so anything we can do to reduce the size of the footprint on clients would certainly help in our environment.  Freeing up just 350MB in /opt would actually make backups work for some of our clients which are failing due to low disk space.We don’t have access to most of our clients, so looking for a way to do this without logging i

Hello everyone,  I just noticed my file server backups are not aging out following the upgrade to 11.30.32.  My file server has the CommVault client installed and I do incremental backups throughout the week with synthetic full backups on Friday night.  The last synthetic full backup of the month is retained for a year and the last Syn-Full of the year is retained for 3 years.  Does anyone have suggestions on what to check?

Hi,I have a question about compression.We have a some oracle databases for which we create an online full every night. When we check the data transfered from the host to the media agent, we can see a much higher number than what is actually written to disk.EDIT:This is an example: Deduplication seems to be working fine, and also compression. I know deduplication happens on the host/client side.Does compression happen on the host or on the media agent? If it’s on the media agent, that would explain the high transferred data number, as it needs to read it from the host to compress it on the media agent.I looked through books online, but couldn’t find a definitive answer. If anyone knows, I would appreciate it.Jeremy

Hello, is there a best practice guide if I want to separate a Commvault web server from the CommServe. I want to outsource the web server to its own VM. And another problem I would like to solve is the accessibility after a failover. We have a problem in our production environment that the web/admin console is not available after failover. In the production environment, the web server was disconnected from CommServe from the beginning.   Kind RegardsThomas
