FAQ: Log Backup with Caching in Commvault Cloud & SoftwareProduct Update

Overview In release 11.38 update pack 32,  we are introducing a new feature for both Software and SaaS database customer environments: log backup with caching for SQL, Oracle, and SAP HANA databases. This allows you to perform log backups at more frequent intervals and leverage a caching mechanism to securely and efficiently transfer transaction logs from the database server to backup storage. The Log Backup with Caching feature enhances database protection by enabling high-frequency transaction log backups—even during control plane/CommServe computer downtime. Logs are first written to a secure cache before being backed up to storage, allowing for data consistency and the potential to improve RPOs. This change will be enabled for new backup plans automatically and does not require action. Existing backup plans for SaaS customers will be updated over the coming months. VMs failing to get backed up due to failed vmdk collection

Good day guysI hope you are wellwe have a VM that is not getting backed up fully at all.The only thing that is getting backed up fully is the file server only.I don’t see any issues with the VM. Commvault NOW: Latest Alternatives or News After Deprecation (June 2023)

Hello community, We are looking for the best way to provide the Self-Service Portal experience to our end-users on mobile devices.I came across Commvault NOW, but I see that it is no longer supported (https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/deprecation_notice_for_commvault_now.html)Is there any alternative available these days, or is accessing the portal via a mobile browser currently the only option? I would appreciate your feedback and any recommendations. Best regards,Nikos

In-Place Upgrade Server 2016 -> 2025

Hi!As Server 2016 will go out of support anyways within the next year, I consider proceeding the upgrade before, as 2019+ support larger cluster sizes than 64 kb which should drastrically improve file system defragmentation and by that HDD performance.The “wasted” should be less of a deal, as Commvault saves data in big chunks of 1+ GB anyways. I assume that Commvault does not have trouble with the cluster size (the storage part in documentation is generally pretty “thin” regarding file systems, best practices etc.).Sidenode: You should definitely add, that partitions/drives above 64 (actually more 63.5) TiB can’t be snapshotted with VSS, nor can chkdsk do anything on those. But the main question: Is there any problems to in-place upgrade Windows Server 2016 to 2025?It would be big pain to migrate all that data (we have one machine running all services/functions) to a new (pricy!) server as long as the hardware is still supported/maintained. I’ve read and old thread that recommended do

Hello,I have a PLAN PLAN_A this plan uses a Cloud Library S3 Cloud_A bucketA and two media agent ma_A_01 and ma_A_02 I created a new PLAN PLAN_B using a Cloud Library S3 Cloud_B bucket B and two media agent ma_B_01 and ma_B_02 I have a client using PLAN_AI’ve changed the PLAN from PLAN_A to PLAN_BWhen I try to perform a fulll backup Commvault try to get some informations from Cloud AError Code: [62:1544] Description: Error occurred in Disk Media, Path [bucketA /QLS8R7_03.04.2025_08.08/CV_MAGNETIC/V_216828] [[Cloud] Access denied.]. For more help, please call your vendor's support hotline. Report data doesn't add up

Hi. I’ve tried a bunch of report to get a detailed report of storage usage. I’ve used this one:Estimated Storage Utilization By Policy Copies or DDBs or Libraries. I know it’s an estimate, but if I add up all the used space for every client, there’s about 30% difference between the storage usage according to CV vs the report. CV says 490TB, reports says 330TB. I’ve tried a couple other reports and they all have the same 330TB approx.Since it’s cloud storage, the $$$ involve here is significant

This may help bypass snapshot failures and allow the backup to complete.Please follow these steps in a test environment:Add the following additional setting on the VSA Proxy:The key is not added to the library "bVerifySnapshotCreationAllowed", so it won't appear in the search.
