Hi,

I have storage policy with retention:

Primary - disk 2 days 2 cycles

Secondary -tape - 30 days 0 cycles

I am doing selective aux copy of full backups.

Old transaction logs are not deleting from primary even if their retention is over.

I am wondering if there is any option to aux copy full’s but independent from transaction logs on primary.

Regards,

Lukasz

I think I ve found the  solution.

Media Management → Data Aging

Honor SQL Chaining for Full jobs on Selective copy

The default value is 1 - true. So we need to change to 0-false.

@Lukasz A

This is a somewhat common question on tlog backups and retention. There is a page in BOL that talks about various scenarios.

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/12140_sql_server_agent_data_aging.html

You can also run a data aging report and it will note why a log was not removed most likely “Log Rule” noted in link above. As well as the setting I have noted below.

If you want logs to be retained by days ONLY you can enable it here:

NOTE this would apply for all database agents and all copies.

  1. From the CommCell Console, click the Storage tab.

  2. Click the Media Management icon.

  3. Click the Data Aging tab.

  4. In the Prune All Database Agent Logs Only By Days Retention Rule, type 1 to enable pruning for all database agent logs based on the days retention.

  5.
