Dear Commvault team,

would you please explain the below questions regarding the exchange mailbox policies:
1.    What is the meaning of “Received Time Based Retention” is it based on msg receive/send time? Or is it based on the time of the job?

2.    What is the Commvault behavior when we enable the quota and cleanup criteria together?

thanks @Chris Hollis for your answers,

I’ve reviewed the documents, but I’m not sure what will happen in below case:

when quota & cleanup are enabled, is it depending on what event comes first? or is it (OR) operation between quota and clean up or is it (AND) operation?

if we have mailboxes since 2010 and my cleanup criteria are to clean up older than 2 years, and we enable quota to start cleanup once the mailbox reaches 90% and stop cleanup at 50%. now what will happen in the case of one of the mailboxes reaching 90% of its quota and at the same time, the cleanup job has been completed for this mailbox for the last 2 years(emails from 2010 to 2020 have been cleaned)?

appreciated your explanation
Regards,
karam

Hi @Amr Shboul

Q1. What is the meaning of “Received Time Based Retention” is it based on msg receive/send time? Or is it based on the time of the job?

A1. Receive time of the message: https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/28891_creating_exchange_retention_policies.html

Q2. What is the Commvault behavior when we enable the quota and cleanup criteria together?

A2. Cleanup will be based on mailbox quota option defined.. this article hopefully covers this in more detail for you: https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/28887_creating_exchange_cleanup_policies.html

Hopefully this helps,

Regards,
