Hi

Is it possible to exclude files from a long time retained backup.

We have one plan which is retained forever. But there was not specified any filters on the servers when they started to build up retention.

So now if I exclude areas on the different servers, then this data will be excluded on new backup jobs. But we will have a lot of data saved which can not be removed?

Hi @AndreasBG

Obviously caution is the most important principle here.

The principle of infinitely retained backups is to ensure that data is protected for ever, so attempting to delete items from infinitely retained backup data contradicts this principle.

It is important to verify and confirm business needs for retention to ensure that two are aligned for compliance, etc. This will allow Data Aging to govern when backup data is removed.

That being said, we do have options to delete backup data, if all these aspects are already considered:

Delete Backup Data and Archive Data

Thanks,

Stuart
