I’m very new to Lustre FS, so having some challenges.

We have the backups working correctly so that’s sorted.

When trying test restores to the same target, we’re seeing the below error:

24813 6105 07/14 13:57:36 24576 FsRestoreUnixObject::handleError(4892) - Write data error = 9

I can see the directory structure is created during the restore process, but all files fail to restore.
I’ve tried to restore a file to another location and am seeing the same issue.

Has anyone seen this, before I engage support for assitance?

Hey @Mauro,

Hope all is well.

Assuming you are restoring out-of-place to a different location for this test - can you try enable or ensure the the “restore ACLs” option is selected?

Docs

Prerequisites

To perform out-of-place Lustre file system restores, you must select the Restore ACLs check box in the Restore Options dialog box.

Hi @Damian Andre

I’m doing well and yourself?

I did try that option and unfortunately get the same result.
I thought it might be an access issue so did go that route.
Thanks.

Ah, got it - that is the usual cause of the error. are you able to successfully copy files to that restore location manually as well using cp?

Hi

We tested the file copy and it works with my user in pseudo mode.
What’s really strange is that the restore works now without me making any changes and the system owner hasn’t done anything either.

Really strange, but at least it works.
Thanks so much for our assistance.

Definitely odd, @Mauro , though a happy result.

I can mark this as answered, though certainly if you get another occurrence, update us here :nerd:
