on “old” installation on comsmerve the mediaagent package is installed.
So under storage resources mediaagents the funktion ransomware protection can enabeld. Is there any advantage when we do that ? or any disadvantage ?

From the docs:
Protecting your data from Ransomware attacks is critically important. Commvault proactively monitors the client computer for any unexpected activity and alert the user with the type of activity.
In addition, you can secure the mount path from being accessed by external processes thereby protecting the backed up data. Commvault provides different methods to protect your data.

The specific MediaAgent Ransomware Protection you are referring to just protects disk library mount paths on a MediaAgent, meaning that in your case this setting only makes sense if you have a disk library mounted to the CommServe machine (either on local disk or shared with other MediaAgents). Apart from that, it doesn’t have any affect to the CommServe itself. See here how that setting works and what it is meant for:
