Hello Guys,

What are the steps to follow in order to DR a MediaAgent that is lost ? In order to be able to access the data that was previously stored by it.

I suppose that we have to start with the installation of a new one (OS, Commvault software), then we have to add it to the CommServe ? With the same IP as the lost one ?

Any step-by-step procedure to proceed with a DR of an MA would be great.

Thanks all,

Regards.

You can restore it, you can also mount or connect to the paths using a different MA and change the data path on the storage policy copy to reflect the new MA.

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/10941_change_data_path_overview.html

If you want to restore the MA then:

Install and configure OS, preferably with same config as before

mount or connect to the data location

Install cv software with same config as original

The MA should now be adopted in place, basically a hardware refresh procedure but without migration of index cache and DDB.

Thanks, Jos, for the clarifications.

Let's consider it as a hardware refresh without the index and DDB migration, since in case of a hardware failure, we’d also lose the Index and DDB data with the entire MA.

Is there any way to restore it from the Storage (Disk or Cloud) ? Maybe after setting up the new MA (OS and Commvault software installation) ?

Thanks in advance.

If the DDB subclient is still there with the backup data intact then you can restore the DDB back to the MA. This is not necessary for restore of data formerly backed up by the MA, only if you want to backup data again with that MA.

But my question is, what do you specifically want to achieve?

Not every situation is suitable for a DDB restore, depends on the context of the situation.

Hi Jos,

Sorry for the late reply.

We just want to set up the right steps in order to be able to restore a full MA in case of a loss.

It’s just a theoretical question :)

Regards.
