Restore data from catalogued tapes

Using simpana 11.20.46

I have done a last backup from an old OES server who has been decommissioned.

This server has 2 sub clients: the linux file system and the OES file system. The storage policy takes a backup of both clients (the LX agent and the OES agent)

This backup have been finally written to tape, using a synchronous storage policy, after that I have checked that the data on these tapes was valid and write protected the tapes. I can see the LX and the OES backup.

Then I have removed this client completely from Simpana, now I want to check whether it is possible to restore from these write protected tapes.

So I have putted again these tapes into the library, I have catalogued these, no errors at all, I can see the catalogued contents and also a dummy client has been created, but only with 1 sub client: the linux file system.

So now when I try to see the jobs, I only see the linux jobs but I would prefer to see the OES ones….

Any tips???

Thank you in advance,

Hi Ricard,

 Cataloging tapes is only supported for Windows File System, Linux File System, and VMware backups:

 Unfortunately OES File System is not supported for cataloging currently.

@Ricard , in light of what @Vsicherman mentioned, do you have a DR backup from before this client was removed?  You could perform a CommCell Migration (CCM) to get the client back.

@Mike Struening

Yes I have checked in advanced the Include aged jobs. I think that the issue is that the sub client containing the OES data has not been recreated, and so I can only see the LX jobs….

tape view catalog contents
Dummy client

jobs I can retain and browse and restore: only the LX
this is from an existing client

You can see the difference between the sub clients present on the dummy one (only one, the LX FS) and the existing one (2 sublcients: the LX FS + OES FS)

@Vsicherman

This explains why, thank you!

Yes I could do, but it was just a nice to have..., in the mean time the data has been migrated to another OS (WFS).

Thank you very much for your suggestions.

Always best to leave the client around - you can hide them from view if you like, so its like they don’t exist but all the metadata is there for when you need it!
