Secondary copies ports requirement

Hi Commvaulters,

Can someone advise me with the needed network ports to be open in order to perform an aux copy between 2 MAs.

We installed a new MA on a remote site, and we want to open only the needed ports between it and the CS (For communication) and between it and the MAs located on the main site.

Please to note that we are running CV version 11.24, I know that the main ports are 8400 for communication and 8403 for data transfer.

Is there any other once that needs to be opened ? We want to minimize port opening in order to fully secure the remote MA.

Regards.

CommVault will use random ports during operations.
https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/8572_tcp_ports_used_for_services.html

You can limit the ports used by going into the properties of both media agents and list the other as restricted under incoming connections. If there are not additional ports set under incoming ports, the default would be 8400 and 8403.

Thanks a lot @Aplynx, the link was very useful :)

Hello @Aplynx

For aux copy (between 2 MA’s) except from default 8400 & 8403, I see some additional high ports 3800 - 5600.

Is this OK, because in documentation I cant find anything related.

Best regards,
Nikos

Hello @Nikos.Kyrm

Required port to open for the connection is 8400 & 8403 - Required to be open on MediaAgents for faster data traffic

Port Requirements for Commvault - for your reference ( requried ports from commvault end )
https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/port_requirements_for_commvault.html

As @Aplynx  mentioned, if you want to mention / limit specific ports you can do it on Medi agent

Right click on MA name → properties → Network configuration → incoming ports.

Do let us know if you have any queries.

Hello both @Aplynx and @Arun Murthy,

I understand that I’m able to set limits specific ports, but apart from that,  these additional high ports 3800 - 5600 are expected for aux copy jobs?

Thanks once again,
Nikos
