Hello,

The Incremental backup runs log over the weekend causing the Synthetic backup to fail to start.  How do I set the Synthetic backup to queue until the incremental backup completes?

Thank you.

@Yolanda For VM centric or system wide application it is probably best to use the control panel option, this will allow you to solve this issue for all scenario's.

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/essential/126566_jobs_and_job_control_for_vm_centric_operations.html

If you only want to manage VM admin jobs in this manner you might be able to use the client option.

If you want to only apply it on this specific subclient then you might be able to use this by assigning a schedule only for this subclient and set it in the advanced schedule options. Don't know if you use plans, if this is the case then a schedule specific for this subclient can be the less optimal choice.

But the more I think about it whilst writing this, I think the control panel method probably is the only way due to the VM centric setup of the backup. VM specific jobs being generated by the VM admin jobs. These VM specific jobs are related to the VM Instance and are not related to the hypervisor (client) level like the VM admin job.

You will need to test the other two options if you prefer them.

One last question.  The client that is having the issue is a virtual machine.   The VSA host is the client.  At what level should I make the setting?.  The virtual machine in question is in its own subclient.

Thanks.

You can queue jobs automatically when jobs are running via these settings:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/6308_queuing_jobs.html

Quote:

Control Panel Options

From the CommCell Console ribbon, click the Home tab, and then click Control Panel.

Under the Data section, click Job Management.

The Job Management dialog box appears.

On the General tab, select the queuing options:

To queue jobs if they conflict with other currently running jobs, select the Queue jobs if other conflicting jobs are active check box.

For example, jobs are queued if multiple backup operations are running for the same subclient.

To queue jobs if the activity control for the job type is disabled, select the Queue Jobs if activity is disabled check box.

To queue scheduled jobs, select the Queue Scheduled Jobs check box.

Scheduled jobs will start in the Job Controller in a queued state at their scheduled time. Manually resume these jobs, or clear the Queue Scheduled Jobs check box to resume the scheduled jobs automatically.

Tip: Select this option during maintenance periods.

Click OK.

From the CommCell Console ribbon, right-click the client, and then click Properties.

The Client Computer Properties dialog box appears.
