how to deal with DFS backup, I have multiple servers replicating data between, right now the dfs shares are backup using \\unc\path from windows subclinet but many files are skipped. I’m surprised that there is no DFS client option to backup shares from multiple servers. If I deploy the agent all servers consumes my license and backup the same data multiple times

Hi @MaxJamakovic , thanks for the post!

We have a few ways of doing so:

Looks like you are already doing the unc path method.

Have you tried the multi node method?

Non of those solution are aware that commvault agent is running on Windows OS to use VSS, by now  there should be DFS client where you can add all windows servers in DFS and backup the shares that way. If one replica is down it will backup from available node

@MaxJamakovic , I might be missing a concern, though the Multi Node method does factor for nodes being down since you can add multiple data access nodes:

  • You can configure the data access nodes as backup nodes for the network share subclient. The backup operation runs on the selected nodes. You can set data access nodes at the agent level or at the subclient level. The nodes set at the subclient level take precedence.
  • On the Data Access Nodes tab, under Available Data Access Nodes, select the data access nodes that will participate in the backup operation, and then click Add.

The backup will run from the initial subclient server by default, though you can configure multiple nodes.

Let me know if there’s anything this method does not provide:
