Hello all.If like me you’re in the unenviable position of having to still protect some 2003 clients even though they are long deprecated, and after a reboot despite CV services running they just won’t communicate, try adding the nAllowOlderClients setting from here:https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/3605_installing_clients_with_deprecated_operating_systems_or_applications_on_windows_computers.htmlThis has worked for me. I didn’t need to change anything on the client itself.
This just started a week or so ago. The Commserve shows libraries for a particular media agent server as “marked not ready”. Looking into the cvfwd file on both servers shows the following. On MA:”ERROR: Connection from <commserver. to localhost:50580 is being denied due to not matching a configured whitelist and due to no services listening on this port.”There are actually 4 error lines for each instance. “validate(), “do_connect_client90(), and two with “Client connection failed….”In the cvfwd file on the commserve, there are similar ERROR messages. After a minute or two, the libraries are “now marked ready” and I can see an established connection on that port (50580).Do not see this on other MA servers. The MA and Commserve server are in the same IP subnet.Does not appear to be traffic related, as this will occur while nothing is going on between them. And does not appear to be impacting functionalityAny suggestions or hints?.
Hi there,I just have a question about the Unusual file activity. When I go there I can see the graph and the graph also shows the Deleted Files including how many filers were deleted and the date they got deleted. So, Is it possible to see the details for that? Or generate a report for that? Thank you.
FS based Backup ends with a warning: Could not back up folders and files.the dumpbased backup goes fine.In de PostGresBackupChild.log I see :2309890 233f02 09/20 14:15:56 2109431 ClBackupFile::OpenFilesForBackup(7033) - failed to stat path '/data/postgres/13/wal/inst1/archive_status/000000060000000000000045.ready', errno=2, error=No such file or directory There are no *.ready files in that dir or elsewhere. Every time I try the backup again I will see a similar message, but with an other filename. The number goes up.Any idea on how to troubleshoot this?
So these deployments have been a real hassle won’t get into previous details but the current one hsxsetup wizard will not finish forming a storage pool. Main difference with this one is we used a known service account and password to authenticate with the Commserve instead of the code method in Command Center(account has Master permissions and more on the Commserve) Logs say the account is not an issue and according to Commvault the cluster is formed(3 nodes) and the nodes are registered in the Commserve as MA’s(they have duplicate dedup engines but Commvault tells me this is normal. You can see this from the Commserve you can also see an offline storage pool in the library with no delineated volume information and an error message on the properties saying the setup has not completed. The Commvault Engineer has been loathe to recommend running a cleanup as he feels it would leave things behind they would have to walk me though manually. This case has been with Development for more than

Hello!Problem description:SAP for Oracle agent has following subclients:1) Online - For Online Database backups2) Offline - For Offline Database backups3) Logs - For log backupBackups for Online and Logs subclients happening regularly. Offline subclient is used for special cases, only one job for this “Offline” subclient exists and it is marked for 5 years retention.Problem: Jobs of “Logs” subclient not aging, with reason LOG RULE and with “Required By Jobs” mark, where required job is job of “Offline” subclient, which we want to keep for 5 years. How to resolve problem with Log aging and keep job, which is blocking aging?
Hi all. After upgrading to 11.32.13 we are sporadically starting to see the below error when doing Vmware snapshot backup. The backup job fails or completes with errors: “Snapshot creation is disabled on [Server name] by .” Snapshot creation is not disabled for the server, and when backup is re-run everything is working. Have anyone else seen this behavior? Regards-Anders

Hi Team, I have an issue with an intended Unix client install.Filesystem agent only. We unfortunately have port 8400 occupied by other software, so I need to install to a different port. However, I don’t see where i can over-ride 8400 with my intended port. And for whatever reason, I can no longer find detailed instructions on the Unix\Linux install process.I’m not a Unix admin, so probably like quite a few of us, it would be helpful if there was more detail on available options. Bottom line, can someone advise how, or where I can provide a different port during a local install (I have a Unix tech available to assist). Thanks
Replace 'global administrator' account in Commvault Plan configuration for exchange online, onedrive, teamss
Hello Team. I have CV data protection configured for Exchange Online, OneDrive and Teams. It’s been running successfully for some time. The customer wants azure ‘global administrator’ account to be substituted in the CV configuration for a different account (with less capabilities). CV documentation states that after the initial configuration ‘global administrator’ can be substituted but it does not specify with what account (and type) it can be substituted with. Thanks!
I think the answer’s probably no, but I feel like I need to ask this anyway:We recently discovered that a content filter was missed on one subclient while configuring the Commvault agent on a database server, which caused the file system agent to back up an extra ~1.5TB of non-deduped data nightly for several months. New nightly backups shrank considerably after we caught the oversight and set the appropriate filter, but not before Commvault wrote around 120TB of redundant Oracle database backups to disk that won’t begin to age out until sometime next year.I know we can go in and manually expire those jobs to immediately free up space on our long term storage, but is there a way to apply the content filter to that subclient retroactively so that we can expire the just the 120TB or so that should have been excluded from the start, while keeping everything else?
We have a media agent with low disk space alerts going off (on the OS disk), all the usual suspects only returned a few GB of free space. After analyzing the media agent’s OS disk, the JobResults folder is 192GB (55.2GB on disk), one of the largest offenders. Can this folder safely be relocated to give it some more breathing room? This seems to mention clients however at the same time does not mention media agents. If I move the JobResults location, will it potentially nuke the media agent and all jobs/indexes too?https://documentation.commvault.com/11.21/expert/6588_changing_path_of_job_results_directory.htmlThanks everyone!
Hi Vaulters, Hope everyone is doing well.We have a new commvault platform that will be installed, and we’ve been asked by our storage team what are the LUNs size that are needed for backed up data. In order for them to create and map them to our MediaAgents. So, it’s a sizing question. Are there any recommendations per Commvault or utility that can be used to help us decide what’s the best storage configuration will fit our needs ? Knowing that our platform will back up multiple workloads : VMs, FileSystems, DBs (SAP HANA), Mailboxes (Exchange), Active Directory ...etc. Any recommendation from you guys would be much appreciated.RegardS.
Hi Team,In our environment we have multipal DC’s and we are using Commvault idata agent to back them up.I need to understand the correct approach for restoring a DC with AD using our currnt backup methods in the event of AD being unavailable.Do i need to introduce any new method to backup and restore DC with AD. Following the rather vague process at Enabling Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) on an Existing CommServe LiveSync Setup (commvault.com) for enabling TDE on a LiveSync configuration.Using the process here How to configure Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) in SQL Server (sqlshack.com) on the Primary CommServe it’s a relatively simple task to generate a Master Password, Cert, Encryption key and apply it on all Commvault databases AFTER turning off LiveSync.Copy the Cert to the secondary CommServe, and using same process after recreating the cert in SQL and Encryption keys apply encryption to “some” of the CommVault databases. However 4 Databases including the CommServ database are in the “Restoring” state and encryption cannot be applied to them. I believe they are in the "Restoring" state due to the log shipping configuration?Only way to do so was run the RESTORE DATABASE [CommServ] WITH RECOVERY to change the state of the Database and then apply the encryption settings. Problem is that
Hello,we have configured O365 mailbackups to one of our virtual machine disks which would be almost full in few weeks from now.We don’t want to shorten retention period (it’s 1 year and its our policy to keep it this long) so we would like to ask if its possible to somehow distribute/divide backups to separate disks? Or easiest way would be to attach new disk and reconfigure backup location (backup destination in plan settings)?
Hi,We are currently running Commvault in a VM 11.20.168 on Windows Server 2019, and also using a FREL.As the title states, I would like to upgrade the Commvault release from 11.20.168 to the latest version 11.32, and also the Windows Server version. We have 4 instances that I maintain, and it is a closed network (I have to download the update files and transfer them over). This VM was previously running Windows Server 2012R2 but I upgraded our instances to Windows 2019. I could just do an in place upgrade again to 2022, but maybe it is best to make a new VMs. Please share your thoughts and recommendations.
