Commvault Q&A, release updates, and best practices
This is related to this Documentation: Adding a Configuration Value for a Workflow. Workflow Configuration is very useful in the following scenarios (copied from Documentation), Values apply to the workflow the majority of the times that the workflow runs. You do not want to redeploy the workflow when the values change (the workflow version is not updated). Actual use cases, if you're having very simple workflow dedicated to single task, you don't need to use Configuration, instead you can pass all parameters to run the workflow via workflow's Inputs. If you're having workflow for common purpose, like maintain multiple clients with common configuration between them, you should prepare single wofklow with Configuration.
I configured a Global Command Center by registering the remote CommCells as outlined in https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/essential/151227_global_command_center.html. When you register the remote CommCell, it asks for the Service CommCell host name along with username and password. It then reaches out and synchronizes the service CommCells. For some reason, when I look at the CommCell names under Service CommCells, it is inconsistent. Some are showing a CommCell ID/Registration number while others have the full hostname and others have the short CommCell name.Where is it pulling that CommCell Name from? Can it be edited? It would be nice if you could edit the CommCell names on the Service CommCells page to input a friendly name so that the other admins would know which one it was. Perhaps that would be an enhancement? Right now under Actions I only see Refresh and Delete.
During the installation of Commvault CommServe is it possible to:A: Use an instance of SQL NOT installed on the same server as CommServe?B: Assuming YES to above, use a clustered Always On Deployment of SQL?C: Is CommServe supported on a shared SQL instance and not an instance dedicated to CommServe?D: Do any of the above have implications on the backup of the system database? Many thanks for responses!
Hello, my aws backup jpb is configured like thisI am using intellisnapand I have selected the instances from By Region Backup runs fine and also backup copy. now I want to change the content of the subclient, I do not want to use the default By Region selection but By tag Can I remove all content, then select By tag and click on ok ? or is there some procedure to follow ?I know that one time I have tried to remove an instance from a subclient and after that I had a lot of error for the backup copy due to intellisnap I think. Thank you !!
I’ve spent most of today trying to work out why aux copies to a new media agent keep failing connecting to the SIDB on the destination MA.It looks like it is Windows Firewall related as the moment I turn that off things work.On the new MA which is Windows 2022 it looks like Commvault has only put in 2 firewall rules very similar to the ones in this post.On the existing Windows MA’s I have lots of automatically added exceptions for tons of individual Commvault processes. My MAs and Commcell are all in the same VLAN so other than Windows Firewall on each host there is no firewalling between them.I’m struggling to find the documentation on what should be in Windows Firewall and I keep coming across “Network Topologies” but the documentation that isn’t exactly clear either about what they actually do in this situation and whether I should need them. Also the new MA doesn’t appear to be in any of the smart groups with the CommCell and/or other MAs.Should I be looking at Network Topologies or
Hello all, Our DBAs are testing a disaster scenario where only Commvault would be available for restore and my question to you is if there is a query i can make to Commvault to give me the last control file backup piece available of a db.I know you can check this on the job details, but is there a way i can see this from a command line?Thank you Kind regards,João Amaral
Hi Everybody,I need to modify the associated well known filetypes in Content Library but couldn’t find any information on how to do this. Some associations do not work for me the way they are associated. Also need to add additional filetypes like e.g. heic or rmvb.Does anybody know how to modify this?
Hi, I could not find anywhere that adressed this, so asking here. I read that the only way to “migrate data” between storage classes would be as documented. However, can this be done? I have a Hyperscale as a Primary Copy I have an existing AWS S3 Standard bucket as a Dash Copy with Deduplication. I want to create another Dash Copy to an AWS S3-IA Bucket with Deduplication. I want to promote that copy to be the secondary copy and get rid of the existing bucket. Effectively, this seems like migrating the data just as good as going through the process described with the Cloud Tool. Am I wrong? Can this be done?
I know I should remember how to do this but I’ve failed to find the BoL doc which speaks to this objective. For a long time we’ve only done selective fulls to tape. Can someone remind me or point me to the directions for moving away from the selective fulls to “if the associated clients did an incremental last night, copy the incremental changes to tape, and if the client had a synth full run, copy that to tape as a full” -- in our case weekly synth fulls, no SILO of course. Does this require 2 separate aux copies in the SP? I don’t necessarily care about keeping the weekly full jobs on separate media, I’d actually just like to keep filling them day by day and have them age off accordingly.thanks
Hello Community,For sharepoint online apps, we can see a value called “Sites” at the application level (see screenshot 1 - 1746 sites reported) , with a value which is greater than the number of items that are listed and that should correspond to the sites backed up (see screenshot 2 - 1159 items reported). The last backup status for that client indicates that 1159 sites have been backed up (see screenshot 3).So what is the definition for the “Sites” value provided at the top level of the application ?Regards,Pierre
Hi,Every day, after backups, VM machines are discovered that are not used for backup and do not have agents installed. Removing them from "client compters" doesn't help. VMs have never been used for backup. I ran tests on another environment and after removing the VM this situation did not occur.Commvault version is 11.24.90. The situation was the same before the upgrade. Is there a way to turn off auto discovery from vcenter?
