skipping Global DDB creation.

Storage policy creation wizard asks for storage pool creation and global DDB creation. How to bypass this? I don't want to create a global DDB. Commvault is at V11.23.

WAC Windows Admin Center - reducing risk running scripts in the backup environment.

I have a client who has SQL admins using WAC to launch backups/restores for their day to day changes, db refresh, devops, pre/post-change backups, etc. outside of the control of backup environment. They developed these procedures without consulting data protection team, storage team, security team. WAC launches scripts from the client server with a generic account, for anyone with access to the client.In the scheme of things it goes unnoticed when you have ten thousand plus backups running daily. However this causes problems over time with unanticipated storage requirements, retention of nonproduction DBs, failed scheduled backups, etc. Not even going to go into regulatory and audit implications. I have two camps, one that wants to remove this unapproved use the backup infra for SQL production purposes and another that wants to secure these procedures. Oh the DBAs don’t want any change.Any thoughts out there in CV land? I wish to remain impartial, but the security aspect is worrisome.

Live browse of guest files from a cloud library from a MA in the cloud

We have the following scenario:Cloud library → shared between MA1(windows vm on prem) ; MA2(azure VM windows) VMware VM (backed up using VSA) backed up by MA1Browse and restore from MA1 worksservices stopped on MA1Browse and restore from MA2 fails → “Browse failed due to error while mounting virtual machine.”We see that the cvvd driver is not loaded on MA2 wheras it is on MA1. (As per https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/30807_live_browse_and_block_level_browse.html Block-level browse uses a block-level driver to mount a pseudo disk on the MediaAgent being used for browse and restore operations.; Cloud Library Support for Live BrowseFor all VSA hypervisors that support live browse, you can perform live browse operations with the following cloud libraries: Microsoft Azure Storage: Default container storage using hot or cold access tiers with General Purpose v1 (GPv1) or General Purpose v2 (GPv2) storage account) Question is : Is live browse supported for MAs in Azure?

Replace Webserver certificate

Hello, I would like to replace the WebServer certificate. But the new certificate for the server is in pem format. but the keytool accepts only crt. How can I still import the certificate into the mykeystore.jks ?Regards Thomas

CS sizing on Azure

Hi Vaulters.I have a potential customer that will need to back up 10k Office 365 accounts to Azure. They want all the infra (CS, MA, Access and Index nodes) running on Azure. Are there different sizing parameters for the infra servers if these will be all Azure VMs?Thank you in advance!

Hyperscale 1.5 vs Hyperscale X 2.1 Reference Architecture

Hi, I install recently Hyperscale 1.5 Reference Architecture on my 3 HPE Server, but i discovered then version 2.1 exist on Hyperscale X. What is the difference between these 2 versions? This is the same version but more recent or 1.5 is used only for migrate appliance to reference achitecture? Thank you for your help!

Report on age of restored data

I am looking for data on restores. Specifically we would like to know how many days back the data is from the day the restores was ran. I am not able to locate something in Commvault that will give that data. Knowing this information about the restores our company does would help us size tiers of backup data. For example how long to keep data on fast storage before it is moved to another tier.Thanks!

Import media from catalogic app

Hi, do I have an option to Import media from catalogic app? I have a customer that migrated to commvault from catalogic and he wants to know if he can import the catalogic tapes to commvault library.he has tapes with the last backup from catalogic.I think he will have to maintain his old backup system, but I’m don’t 100% sure.

How to show if my backups are encrypted

The auditors want to see if my backups are encrypted and I’m not sure where to go in the CommVault GUI to show that. I don’t see anything about encryption in the properties for my storage libraries or my storage policies. Where do I show whether or not my backups are encrypted?Ken

I have several cloud libraries, where the storage and DDB are controlled by an on-premises MA. I would like to switch several of them to a different on-premises MA. But cannot seem to find anything here on it the docs on how to switch MAs for an existing cloud library.

Creation of backup copy after a Intellisnap with Hyper-V cluster on a not domain joined Mediaagent server.

I have the following situation:1 or more Hyper-V clusters (MA + VSA installed on every node)1 domain service account configured on the Hyper-V instance (Client)1 media agent server (fysical) not domain joined (with MA, VSA, CommandDevice and Raidmanager installed)1 Hitachi VSP F700 storage Array with IntelliSnap integration on subclient. First, the primary snap is doing great.Second after the snapshot the backup copy must start and mount the snapshot (proxy redirected in the subclient) to the same media agent.When the discovery starts CommVault tries to login on the media agent server and fails:“Set pending cause (unable to connect to virtual machine host (mediaagent server) as user (domain\user) Please ensure that the access node is able to communicate with the host and the user en pw is correct :: client (mediaagentserver)” Now, if I join the mediaagent server to the AD domain the backup copy works, the snapshot is mounted on the mediaagent server and the data is read from the snapsh

Practical way to delete files from all backups?

Hi: I’ve searched the content here and could not find an answer, sorry if this has been discussed previously. I’m interested in the possible actions after ransomware detection capabilities state that some files are malware. How do you “clean the backups” from attacking files that could be lurking around for some time?Is there an automated way, or should the admin do a manual search and delete? Thanks! JP

Storage policy jobs preference

Hi,in our case there is a lot of running jobs accros multiple storage policies. Once the jobs reach more than 90% of completion, the throughput of the job falls and the speed of the job is very slow. However,some of the jobs, that have less than 50% in progress status, are running faster.Is there any option to prioritize jobs, that are almost finished (with more then 95% of progress)?I know there is possible to change priority of the single job, however, from my experiance it didnt increase speed too much. Maybe I should have used the highest priority, that I exactly dont know.

Backup existing snapshot of NetApp NFS share

Dear all,we want to backup an existing snapshot of a NetApp volume. The snapshot is created outside Commvault. The NetApp SVM is configured and the NFS share client is enabled. We create a subclient and added the content like this:<vServer_name>:/<share_name>/.snapshot/<snapshot_name>This works fine for subclients we configured before we update to version 11.23.17.
