NDMP Isilon Forever Incremental Backups

 Hello, We have an archive cluster(A300 PowerScale) being backed up via NDMP and full backups take quite some time to transfer which is expected due to the file count and size. We backup to disk and tape aux copy via 3-way NDMP. Synthetic full backups are not supported on NDMP, if we did a full every 7th day as we normally do for all our other backup clients(synth. full), this would make the backups fall behind. Dell states that “Forever Incremental” backups are integrated when backing up to Commvault. I am not too familiar with forever incremental configurations in terms of retention. What would be the retention required to be able to perform a full restore? Backup job has been converted to a full.

Dear all,we have several VMs included in the same Appaware subclient. I created a new Appaware subclient, assigned a new schedule policy and moved one the above VMs to it. The storage policy remains the same for both the subclients and all the VMs have a recent Full available.The first backup job for the new subclient was set of type Incremental, may anybody help me understanding why it was converted to full? Thank youGaetano

SuperMicro Appliance Fibre Connection Issues

Hello all.  We have 6 Hs2300s and 1 RO1200, all the same supermicro servers underneath.  We have 10Gb fibre cards in them. The Bios sees the cards, the OS sees them as physical interfaces, and we believe the SFPS, cabling and switch config is correct.However on both the Windows and the Linux it shows as network cable unplugged/no link detected, and the switch shows no presence on the line.We have a call raised with CV but has anyone else seen this?  Is there some setting in the Bios we need to apply?

Backup specific subclients with workflow

Hi,I am a very beginner with workflows and I am facing my first problem:I want to run a backup for all subclients for a specific client beside a subclient “test” via workflow.So in this example at the beginning of that workflow I manually choose a client.This client has serveral subclients (e.g. “data1”, “data2” and “test”).The discover of DataAgent, BackupSet and all Subclients works fine, but with which activity in the Workflow Designer can I exclude the pattern “test” in the list of subclients?I’ve tried the “RemoveFromList” but without any success (or maybe I used it the wrong way).Do you have a clue?BR

commserve hardware refresh (migration from server Win 2012 to Win server 2019)

Hello,We are planning to migrate the commserve from win server 2012 OS server to new hardware win 2019. Also we are planing to upgrade Simpana, our Simpana is 11.20.Which upgrade method is suitable for us?Should I upgrade Simpana on the old server before migrating Commserve to the new server, or install Windows on the new server and upgrade there?Thank you!Best regards,Elizabeta

HSX RA as VSA proxy for bothe Windows/Linux VM and FRE

Hello, We're going to soon deploy a HyperScale X Reference Architecture with 3 nodes. I would like to know, since I didn't find anywhere else, if HSX can be the proxy/access host for my VSA based backups. Can each node be a proxy? Can it perform the File Recovery Enabler (Linux VM file restore) role? Retiring Server, what is the recommended method to stop backing up, while retaining data through the storage policy period and aging data off?

As title implies, I am retiring a VM Server. Currently, this server gets backed up daily, and it kept on local disk storage for a period of 1 month. What is the correct prescribed method using the command center GUI to “stop” the daily backups, and then just have the data age off for the next month until there is no data left and I can delete the VM from the VM group backup. Do I simply change the “plan” the vm is affiliated with to “none”?

Indexing v2 Synthetic Full failures: Mismatch detected in blocks

Hello!We are finally testing Indexing v2 for VMs and it seems like it is MUCH faster than V1. We are testing on our 800+ dev/test VMs and we have some random errors:Failure Reason: Mismatch detected in blocks being backed up for certain volumes or disks. The next incremental will resolve the situation automaticallySo yeah, I opened a new case with CV support but… it seems like they have no idea what should be done :)So, now the Support Engineer says that the problem is ...with the incremental backup before Synch Full. Interesting, but the last incremental is green. I am uploading more and more logs for investigation, and there is no answer [yet].So, I wanted to ask the community, probably somebody knows what could be the reason.BTW, using Indexing v1 with the same ESXi hosts, the same network etc we did not have issues like this.

Selective Copy for One-Time-Client-Specific Audits in Plans

Hi, Trying to find the best way to set up at Selective Copy in a Plan to be able to send One-Time, Client Specific, Full backups to Tape for external audits.  In a Storage Policy this is easy as we can select what Client, or even SubClient, to copy data for. This option is not available in a Plan though, it’s only which Fulls to Copy for all associated Clients.I can create a separate Plan for this and redirect a Full Backup to this Plan but that would mean a new Full backup and these jobs can be up to 30TB which is not ideal to stream directly to Tape in this environment. We want to benefit from Synthetic Fulls from the Primary Disk Copy. Can I create this Selective Copy from the CommCell Console under the Storage Policy section for the Plan or is that not supported/recommended? Or will Client Selective be available in Plans in a short future?Regards,Patrik

MCSS Library performances

Hello, I have a matter that could require some help.We have a primary copy on a disk Library, a secondary on another disk Library and a third copy on a MCSS cloud Library. All copies have dedup enabled.Auxiliary copies run fine between the disk librairies but when it comes to sending the data to the MCSS library it takes forever. We tried to increase the number of streams, use either of the disk libraries as source for the aux copies but we can’t achieve suitable performances. What we see is that the process generate excessive read operations on the source library. Dedup block size is 128 on the disk libraries and 512 on MCSS.Commvault version 11.24.Any help would be appreciated.Regards, Jean-xavier

Hi,I am configuring new VSA Proxy on Windows 2022 and I wanted to make sure there are no additional recommendations for this kind of configuration. Is the settings as below sufficient? How should I set SAN Policy (Offline Shared/Online)?On the VSA Proxy server, ensure that the “automount disable” and “automount scrub” commands have been run to disable automatic drive letter assignment-> To disable automount1. Linux Disk Library Volume Sizing Best Practices (Design)

So,I’m having a project with Commvault and a HPE Apollo 4200 with 24x 12 TB NLSAS drives.What would be a best practice approach when creating the array(and logical volume) in the aerver Raid Controller?I read some people saying that the max volume should be 4 TB per mount point, does this make sense these days ?If yes, that means that I need to create 66 volumes of 4TB each within raid controller.Any beneficts on doing this versus a single volume with 264 TB?thanks

Helloif I have 2 different licenses: 100TB FTE Commvault Backup and Recovery + 100 Virtual Operating Instances what happen if we goes in over lincensed condition for the nunber of VMs? only the VMs backups will not run or also the backup of other workload (for example Oracle) will stop to run?Regards

I am trying to do a kind of “Disaster Recovery” solution, so I would like to restore the VM with the same network interface configuration.I can not find any option about how to set the MAC Address and the IP address when I am restoring it. Commvault License

CommCell ID is set to expire.Can you please help me with the below points.Let us know the process, how to extend the Commvault License ? We have 200 VM license so will those 200 VM license will auto renew or do we need to purchase it again ? We have vendor support so after extension of Commvault License will vendor support is there or not ? What are the pre-requisite and post-requisite before applying Commvault license and after applying Commvault license ? Is there any downtime required for extending Commvault License ? If I miss any point related to Commvault license then please add that point.
