Issues with Granular Restore in OracleVM Environment and FREL Configuration in Commvault.
Good afternoon.I am reaching out to you for your valuable help in resolving an issue that I am facing with the hypervisor integrated into Commvault, specifically in the configuration of FREL in an OracleVM environment. In this regard, I have been able to perform backups of the virtual machines, but I have not been able to carry out granular restoration of the same. I have reviewed several sources of documentation and specialized forums, however, I have not been able to find detailed information about the appropriate configuration of FREL for this type of environment (OracleVM).Therefore, I request your collaboration to guide me in the process of configuring FREL, taking into account that it is an OracleVM environment.I appreciate your prompt response and support in solving this issue.🙏
Hypervisor restoration Complete but VMs not accessible
Dear All, Due to an urgent requirement, we restored the Hyper-V VMs ULCSLINVDBP1 and ULSLCINVAPP1 to another hyper v host(EH07HYP host). Both restorations were successful. But ULSLCINVDBP1 was accessible and ULSLCINVAPP1 was not accessible. What could be reason for this kind of situation,Is it because of any faulty in backup?
Do these need to be backed up ?
Hi AlllI’ve got a couple of indexing clients that were created as part of the configuration of O365 backup for Exchange and Teams. But the “No backup for last X days” alert is complaining because they haven’t been backed up. The question is, do they need to be backed up, or should I clear the “Enable Backup” flag on Activity Control ?As I understand it, the SOLR indexes (for exchange at least) are forever incremental, and if damaged, will rebuild from scratch. But if they’re backed up, does that get circumvented and is the restore performed or the rebuild ? Thanks for the inputSimon
Windows Cluster Backups Creating Non __GX_Backup Checkpoints and not removing them
I’ve had this problem for years with 2012, 2016, 2019 and now Azure Stack HCI clusters where, if there’s been some sort of blip on the network or with a particular host, that we can get increasing numbers of non __GX_Backup named (normal named) .avhdx files at every backup on a small percentage of VMs (not the same VMs each time and problem is intermittent). The disks show as differencing but there are no checkpoints listed on Hyper-V manager and this usually requires downtime to consolidate the disks by restore to fix it.Commvault support advised they’ve never seen this particular issue before and that have always said that it’s a Microsoft issue but I wondered if anyone else had ever seen it.I don’t have the issue with non clustered VMs where the backup type is set to “File System and Application Consistent” instead of “Crash Consistent” like it is on the clusters.I think the issue is probably more related to the clusters than the backup type but am not sure. If I do change the backu
commvault save as script executing under MFA options
I am working with a customer that has some questions on the save as scripts from the backup subclients. They want to execute from a linux server. IN the batch under setlocal it is asking for GALAXY_BASE:=I assume you can add the linux path to base to execute the qlogin command and qoperation? The other question is they want to make sure any account used is not visible in any of the script files if they have to use a non-mfa account. Is there any way to use MFA and these export scripts from CV or documentation around that?
I am trying to create a JSON payload to submit to qoperation the problem I seem to be running into is that I can’t access the properties of the cliententity object.I tried to see what would happen if i did something like logger.info(servers.clientName)and the output I get is null. This is what the script looks like: This is what the for loop looks like: This is the output: Clearly I am doing something wrong.I posted this in the private area in hope it would get more traction.Thanks.
Commserve Domain Change
Hi All,We are Planning to do a domain name change on our Commserve and wanted to know how much time it may take to perform the commserve name change on all the clients after the commserve hostname name is changed.According to below documentation it says it will take about between 20-30 seconds for each client depending on if client is online or offline, we have like 2000+ clients on which agents are installed. will it really take like 5-10 hours to perform the Commserve name change on these clients? or will it do it in parallel on all the clients and should be done in 30 mins to 1 hour?https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/7031_changing_commserve_name_for_clients_after_restoring_database.htmlAny advise here is appreciated! Thanks.V

Adding expansion modules for tape library (HPE MSL 6480)
Hi,We will be adding 2 more expansion modules (160 slots and 16 LTO8 drives in total) for out tape library. I haven’t done this task before, so I wonder do I need to stop the Commvault service on all of my Media agents when I do the detect the new expansion modules with the Expert Storage Configuration? Thank you.
Good way to retain backup data for up to 5 years
Need some guidance about configuring CommVault to retain backup data for a given customer for up to 5 years (especially for deleted and/or modified files). Use the Basic Retention Rule for All Backups field? How? Set up number of days to 1825 days and keep 1 cycle? Keep 30 at number of days and set to cycles to 60 etc? Or… Use the “Extend storage policy retention” option with Retention mode: Object Based Retention. Schedule Policy: 1 Synthetic Full every month and Incremental every day.
Tweak FS performance of File server via Command Center
We're running FR30.43 and a customer asked us if there are ways to improve backup/recovery performance of a Windows File Server cluster based on Windows Storage Spaces Direct. Our customers manage everything via Command Center and have to access to the CommCell console. From the CommCell console there are/were several ways that allowed you to improve backup/restore performance:Enable the option "Allow multiple data readers within a drive or mount point" Increase data readers Spread contents over multiple subclientsBesides the last one mentioned the other two mentioned cannot be set/tweaked when you use protection plans. So, my questions is what is the default behaviour when using plans and what options can you implement that improve backup/recovery performance for large file servers.
O365 Access Node vm: Can it concurrently perform the Index Server role as well ?
Team, I’m trying to maximize resources for O365 data protection. Can the Index Server role be added to an Azure vm that is performing the Access Node role ? CI is being used and I am aware I may need to scale up the vm resources. The data is being protected by an on-prem library and aux copied to an S3 library. Thank you!
Change the file permissions for ORASBT.log to 660
how to apply/change the permission for ORASBT.log under Log_Files/ directorycurrent this file has got 777 permission, however as per this KBhttps://kb.commvault.com/article/54238 its mentioned that required File permission is 660No i tried to change the file permission to 660 for ORASBT log and did a cvpkgchgbut cvpkgchg is not getting completed rather it just exists the installation UI right after user group permissions page, and the file permission is reverting to 777/ 775 permission once a backup/restore is initiated on that client. How do we change the permission back to 660.
Reinstall CommVault and start over from scratch?
This may sound like a ridiculous question but I’m honestly asking…I’ve been a CommVault customer for more than 10 years. Over that time multiple people have been backup administrators which is not a dedicated position but one of those “other duties” that people get assigned. Also over that period, CommVault has changed a lot and deprecated various things (the original Compliance Search and Azure V1 client as examples). Currently I’m dealing with a LOT of problems. I have some staff on OneDrive V1 backups and some on V2 - and neither run cleanly. The new Compliance Search doesn’t work properly, the java GUI has duplicate clients that I can’t explain, and the daily Administrative job summary email report has multiple content indexing failures. SharePoint backups (on prem and M365) don’t work properly, the Command Center health report reports jobs that have aged out months ago as problems and the Database Index Fragmentation shows as critical even though zero percent of the indexes
