Hello. The Commserve server you are currently using has Commserve version 11 Servicepac8 installed (OS is Windows 2016)Error message 'Error: Failed to install IIS Server Roles 2012 (IIS Server Roles 2012) with error code 0x80070422.' occurred during Commvault SerivcePack 20 upgrade.IIS 10.0 is currently installed on that server, and the Windows update service is running normally. Is there a way to install IIS Server Roles 2012 separately?Or if there is another solution, please share it.Thank you.

So, easy question, what are the requirements for the Live Browse feature?Specifically, does the live browse only work on virtual machines? Is this NOT for physical or agent based backups?(Sorry, searched around and didn’t quite find the answer to the actual requirements/limitations - as some of us do still have physical servers that we back up...)
Hi, Does anyone has seen/been able to solve the following error. Reason: <There was error during initialization of information from input XML / local registry.> I have a cluster instance with 2 nodes. The nodes are online and i can make a back-up of the file system. But the Cluster Instance can't update/connect to nodes somehow. (add nodes to cluster in CommVault). This is the error i am getting so far. I deleted the nodes in the cluster instance and force sync, then added and force sync, still the same error remains as it is.

Anyone seeing this issue? If the same API is called using v1.0 instead of beta - in the HTTP REST API call above. We are on SP25.23. Will be updating it to the latets MR.
Hi guys, For a specific need, I wanted to create VMs MA with VMware. As the goal of the virtualization part, it to be able to control the power state of the VMs.I know that Commvault has “VM Power Management” which offers the possibility to control VMs. But I still have confusions on how to implement this, does my VMs have to be added as client first on my commcell then install the MA package, or do they have to be added in a separate way ? The final goal is to be able to shut down a VM MA after an aux copy job.Any tips would be much appreciated Regards.
I have been playing around with a feature that allows you to deploy VMware-based FREL and/or access nodes directory from Command Center. This feature works out nicely, it requires some aftercare for hwich I opened a CMR but it also raised some questions.I'm running FR26 with the the latest maintenance release applied, but the version of the FREL/access node that is deployed is FR25. The cloud portal shows a FR26 version, so why is it downloading and deploying an outdated version? Why is it not automatically being updated to the same FR/MR that runs on the CommServe? In addition to Commvault updates what about OS updates? How often is the OVA which is based on Oracle Linux being updated by Commvault? Will Command Center notify me a of a new build, and will it download and auto-replace the existing nodes with the newer version automatically reusing the configuration settings that were entered during the initial setup?Update → official documentation link: https://documentation.commvault.c
Hi !I’m used to old-style storage/schedule policies and clients/subclients associations..But we’re told that PLANS are the future, and we’ll have to move to Plans for sure.So I’ve deployed a few new MAs to protect some locations inside my company, where I have to protect VSA + file level backups.I have local disk backup, then auxcopy to tape and auxcopy to cloud from primary.MA is physical linux, as we have windows VSA clients, I have also deployed Windows VSA Proxy. Then I created Storage pools for local disk, tape copies and Cloud copies. To simplify things and test Plans, I created a Plan per location, with standard details, like 1 day RPO, 1 month of retention, with my backup timeslots, full timeslots (confusing with synthfull out of control, but we’ll discuss that later in this thread I guess).I created a VSA VM group that points to my VMWare location ( = selects all the VMs in that location, including my VSA proxy VM).For some VMs, I was asked to also provide file-level backup of
Hi community,I am running a large Hyper-V and VMware setup and several admins are editing the subclients. When we edit two different VSA subclients (for the same VSA pseudo client) at the same time, we get an error message:→ This property sheet is opened by ‘user1’ your changes may be overwritten by ‘user2’and wenn the second user leaves the subclient after editing the changes are lost and we get the message:→ There have been changes made to this subclient or backup set. Please refresh Commcell Console and resubmit your changes. From my point s not make sense. If this were two subclients in a File System Agent this would make sense, because these subclients affect each other. But in a VSA setup these subclients are/should be independend. And even more strange: I can edit the two subclients in the Command Center (aka VM-Groups) without an error. Is there any setting to avoid the “locking” of VSA subclients in the Commcell Console? Regards.Michael
Hello community!I’m running into issue with AuxCopy job for one of my Plans in Commvault. This job is a selective secondary copy, which should copy weekly friday fulls into Qnap repository. The destination library is a Qnap library, which was added using uncpath (\\qnap.dns.name\commvault\) and dedicated user with full access permissions for this share.I have configured a MCSS Cloud library also, and create the same secondary selective copy, with the same configuration - and for cloud storage everything is working fine.Qnap firmware is the newest possible (we have updated it few days ago, believing this would solve the problem). We also disconnected every other shares from QNAP (now it is dedicated storage for commvault, for keeping additional copies of backup). The job ends in copy as Partially Copied, when I manually run another AuxCopy job it actually completes without any issues and make a copy job status as “Available”- but it’s not a solution to run an additional aux copy job manual
Hello,Can I know what is the process or algorithm of VSA coordinator proxy node on how it load balances between the VSA proxy server in the list .. Any link or explanation would be helpful.. I have seen cases where 20-25 VSA proxy nodes are used in very large environment… Hence would like to know how the proxy nodes are spanned across each VM during the backup process.. Thanks
Hi everyone After successful installation of commvault, i am unable to add disk library using Network path from a shared folder. it keeps giving me the error “Failed to verify the device from Media Agent with the error (failed to log on user to write file…….) . the user has been given full permission right as admin but not working out. what could be the problem?
Hi, Does anyone knows how the Commvault determines the number of clients and instances to be crosschecked? According to Data Aging logs, the function getCrossCheckInfo() returned a total of 10 (ten) Oracle instances to be cross checked, but we have many more. The option Disable RMAN Crosscheck is NOT checked for any client.
We have the requirement in our company that all Mgmt interfaces/IP’s must be protected by a firewall. For HSX this includes the IP where sshd, http Admin GUI is running. But this seems not to be possible in our setup. We can not protect the DP network with firewall as there will also be backup traffic. So we decided to used 2 different VLAN’s on one of the two LACP channels.Overall we have 3 VLANs/networks configured on 2 LACP channels. 2 VLANs are configured on a trunk.Storage-Pool: not routed - no problem - on LACP 1 with 2 x 25G Data-Protection: should be used for communication with other Commvault servers and clients to back up - on LACP 2 with 2 x 25G Mgmt: used for sshd / http - on LACP 2 with 2 x 25G But according to documentation for Reference Architecture only one network can be routable. In our case both Mgmt and DP must be routable. I added some Linux policy routing rules and they worked perfectly fine until the GUI installer was started (via browser after basic network confi
Hi,I'm getting the error [24:64] Description: There was nothing to restore - subclient(s) not backed up.When I do the restore of the virtual machine the restore works normally, but when I restore the guest files and folder, the commvault shows this error. I can also browse the files normally, does anyone have any idea what might be going on? restores are for Nutanix AHV.
My customer cannot log on to the Commvault Command Center adman console with his active directory account. Error message goes straight to “Invalid User name or Password.” He is able to use his AD account for other systems. He has not logged on to the admin console in awhile so I am not sure when it stated. I cannot find any entries in the current EvMgrS or CVD.log
I have a storage policy for MS SQL backups. The retention is 21 days, but the transaction log backups do not expire after 21 days. I run the Data Retention Forecast report and it shows those log backups are not expiring because of SQL LOG RULE. I’ve read the documentation and none of it seems to apply. I have other storage policies for SQL and this isn’t an issue. This is the only storage policy with this behavior. Anyone have any ideas of what to check?
I’ve inherited commvault from our previous admin. They’ve done a pretty decent job about documenting some items but it hasn’t been updated in years. We’ve been playing cat and mouse with backups and dealing with upper management not wanting to purchase more storage, and they want an easy answer on what is eating up all of our storage, what's being backed up, what's not, and why we would need a 500k storage upgrade. And obviously licensing is an issue as well. I want to also preface this with our company has finally drawn up a retention policy so were not keeping junk that's over 10 years old anymore. We handle sensitive information as a government contractor, so all of our storage is on prem. No cloud instances. I have 3 storage pools and a disaster recovery site in another state. To give a basic overview of what I’m working with. This is my dashboard. My gripes aside it’s now my responsibility to make sense of everything in commvault to put into a powerpoint presentation a 10 year ol
HiI wanted to apply the solution in question, currently I have installed a standard Commvault platform with a single commserve. To protect myself from possible disasters I wanted to apply the "CommServe LiveSync For High Availability Disaster Recovery" solution.Among the prerequisites it is not clear to me the step concerning "Firewall and Network Requirements" where it says "By default, this solution requires that all clients communicate with the CommServe server using a proxy. (By default, the SQL Clients installed in the CommServe hosts is used as the proxy.) " In my configuration the clients do not use proxies but open a tunneling with commserve, see configuring a client:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------# WARNING! This file is automatically generated! Do not make any changes# to this file, instead edit firewall settings in the Java GUI, or, if you# would like to make manual adjustm
Hello,Im looking for best practices about MS SQL DB backup with the following requirements:Full DB backup / per day Log backups every 10’I see from Command Center, that the “default” Plan is to have Synthetic Full, Incremental and Log backups.Whats the best practice to start with? I was thinking to leave only the Synthetic Full backup once a day and the Log backup every 10’. And delete the incremental backup from Schedule. Is this enough ? Thank you in advance!
