Hello, is there a best practice guide if I want to separate a Commvault web server from the CommServe. I want to outsource the web server to its own VM. And another problem I would like to solve is the accessibility after a failover. We have a problem in our production environment that the web/admin console is not available after failover. We are currently trying to test a restore using a Linux VSA for several windows servers (2012R2,2016,2019). After the first backup and restore we haven't had any issues restoring specific files to the same server of to other servers (all windows).Unfortunately after last nights backup, today we tried again to restore some files, with no success.Every time we try to select the destination server we get prompted with user/password for that server and then we try to browse for the specific path, but we keep getting the same error:Something went wrong. Server may be under maintenance. Trace ID: cvtZsQyx9YDid something happened during the backup process and now the servers are not visible?This is a first time issue and cant get a solution for it.Any advises are appreciated. Im looking at the Reports | Commcell | Health on the webconsole and I see the Health report gives me a 1 Critical notification. When I click on the Critical notification its giving me the following: So when I saw that I ran the “DBMaintenance.exe -recommended” command from the BASE directory I figured I would see a difference in the Date etc on the Report… Not sure how the Report is getting its info or date. Still consider myself a entry level commvault user.BTW we are on commvault 11.24.38.Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. ThanksBC

I’m on SP16. I have several clients that have their licenses released (they are grey icons with green “down arrows” on them but it appears the schedule and “activity control” were not turned off… when looking at the filesystem “backup history” in the java UI is seems that backups are still showing like they are regularly occurring (a year after the license release occurred) BUT the ‘size of application” (backup size) is frozen at the same size since the client was retired. When I “view media” on these newer backups it appears its being Aux copied and written to tape.In the Web UI, I’m not seeing these backups. it shows the last backup as a year ago.So: is this ‘normal” (and any explanation?) and is there really data being aux copied and written to tape?This likely was a manual “release license” done on the client via the java UI, and no other action taken is my guess.
We have an existing CommServe and we’ve recently added the LiveSync option to it. (CSMain.domain.local and CSMainLiveSync.domain.local) We created another CommServe for backup and installed it with the LiveSync option. (CSBackup.domain.local and CSBackupLiveSync.domain.local) The Computer Group “CVLiveSync” was created and three clients were automatically added: CSMain, CSMainLivesync and CSBackupLiveSync. In the CommServe’s Control Panel, clicking “CommServe LiveSync” (to complete the configuration) we are presented with a popup that simply says “Message” with the option “OK” Has anyone seen this? What have I missed in the setup? Online install documents have not shown me any steps I’ve missed. Please assist. (Our SQL instances on the primary and the backup are not the same version. Does this matter?)

We have a lot of VMs which changed the backup from filesystem based to VSA and some from VSA to filesystem based. When we move a FS backup client to VSA backup we do uninstall CommVault software.I expect when we move a client from VSA to FS backup, the VSA configuration (client properties) should be gone when last backup it’s aged out, same in the other direction. If not is there a possibility to remove it? Or what we need to do to have a clean commcell.my problem is: when I catch information via API I am not sure if I got current configuration or the old configuration. sample: I see then last backup taken via FS backup 2 weeks ago but hidden we taken VSA backups which are up2date.CV version: 11.24.34regards Juergen
We just started the implementation of Commvault in a brand new VMware environment. Now I'm seeing already an increased amount of duplicate client computers in our environment causing some administrative nightmares and management challenges.So I started investigating it and discovered the UUID registration to differ from what I'm used to when comparing it to AWS. It appears the registered UUID in Commvault is actually the so called PersistentID/InstanceUUID and this one can't be tracked back from within the VM itself. The UUID that is shown from the OS corresponds to the VMware BIOS UUID. We installed some client agents first followed by the configuration of the VSA agent. Both are being used actively. Fixing duplicate client names is an annoying tasks, especially in MSP environments and I'm puzzled this hasn't been fixed by Commvault. Because when you would use the combination of Commvault client name + BIOS UUID and the name that can be read by the client including UUID than matching
I need to configure a new Exchange DAG.In the configuration settings there is an user to specify. The Exchange Administrators are asking me which are the right permission to assign to that user at Exchange level.I don’t find in the documentation a clear answer. Someone can help me ?Thanks
Hello teamMy Commvault is 11.20. In one of my storage policy I observed following problem. Index full backup jobs seems not to be aged. As far as I know system keeps only a few copies of full index backup. Schedule and cleanup rules are default. Retentions for this storage policy is no more than 1 month.I see almost 40 jobs of full index backup from January this year until now. Every job has a copy on disk and a tape on storage policy. Data retention forecast report says aging of these jobs are according to index rule. Backups are small but it is annoying because old single copy of job takes full LTO8.What is the cause of this behaviour ?Is there any problem with index cache ?How can I check it ?Can I manually delete old index backup jobs ?Thanks for any advice.Regards,
Hello!This is Stefano, I’m using CommVault since years.For business needs I have to migrate some of our clients from our existing CommCell to a new one (I already requested and applied the auth code for both).This use case is partially covered by online documentation, but some of the steps are not really clear to me.My source environment is the following:- CS running on a VMware virtual machine;- Media Agents are physical HPE boxes, and they uses some big HPE MSAs storage;- a few VMware subclients to be migrated. Some others needs to stay in the source env. With regards to VMware subclients, to better manage the migration I already moved the subclients in a dedicated Virtual Client, with the result to have:- subclients that must stay in the source --> VMware vCenter client "A"- subclients that must be migrated --> VMware vCenter client "B" As said, Media Agents are physical boxes and one of them does backup for both "A" and "B", toghether with other resources (AD, SQL, File Syste

The destination CS has exactly same commvault version and hotfix applied. but when we run below command :CSRecoveryAssistant.exe -operation Recovery -skipdumpthen we get error that version on source and destination is not same. Is anyone using NetApp for CommVault disk library, we just replaced the HP MSA2050 with NetApp FAS2720, this is 72 SATA 14.5 disk enclosure. The write performance is great but read is supper slow. The Aux copy is very slow for SQL DB backup and Exchange. I run Validate Storage on 1 path, all backup and aux was disabled, that is the max read of 31 MB/Sec

Dear all,we are running an 11.25 platform with a mix of Windows and Linux servers so we have installed two FREL to enable granular restore. Few days ago one of the FRELs just disappeared from the availability list, I mean it doesn’t appear anymore in the dedicated combo-box in the “Browse and Restore Options” dialog.The Linux machine is regularly up and running.Is there any way to recover it’s presence? Hi guys, Recently, we upgraded our CommCell environment, from one of the clients, the upgrade passed successfully, on the CommCell console, the new version is showed up, but on the client side, when checking the commvault services status, we found out that it’s the old version that is still showed up comparing to the other clients. We tried restarting services, but, the issue remained.Any suggestion to clear this issue ? Is there some sort of cache on the clients to be cleared, or anything else ? Regards.
