Have you ever meticulously restored an Azure SQL database from a .bacpac file, checked the job status, and breathed a sigh of relief when you saw "Success," only to be met with a wave of authentication failures and reports of orphaned users? It's a confusing and frustrating scenario. The portal says the operation was successful, the database is online, but your SQL logins and contained users are completely broken. This isn't a random glitch or a failed job that was misreported. It's a common situation that stems from the fundamental design of how Azure SQL Database handles users and logins during a .bacpac import. This article will demystify this behavior, explaining why it happens, why it's not a bug, and how a different authentication method sidesteps the problem entirely.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------1. Takeaway 1: The "Successful" Restore That Secretly Breaks Your SQL LoginsThe core of the problem is this: even when an Azure SQL Dat
Hi all. After upgrading to 11.32.13 we are sporadically starting to see the below error when doing Vmware snapshot backup. The backup job fails or completes with errors: “Snapshot creation is disabled on [Server name] by [].” Snapshot creation is not disabled for the server, and when backup is re-run everything is working. Have anyone else seen this behavior? Regards-Anders
Hi,I was wondering how people are scheduling backups. (for example file system backups)Do you only run incrementals and Synthetic fulls? Or do you sometimes run a “real” full? For example, 1 “real” full a month, a daily incremental and a weekly synthetic full.I’ve always heard never to “only” use incrementals and synthetic fulls, and to slip in a “real” full backup once in a while. What would be the reasoning behind it?Looking forward to hear your feedback.
Hello Community, Issue: The Oracle backup completed successfully. But, the RMAN log gave an error as follows: "ORA-19502: write error on file '10684186_QUADMS_7024upnk_224_1_1', block number 11883521 (block size=16384)." Tried :conducted an examination and can confirm the there is no real I/O errors on the file system through the command "SELECT * FROM V$DATABASE_BLOCK_CORRUPTION;," which yielded no search results.verified the file system and storage have an ample availability of space.Question:If CV backup history shows as "complete successfully", does that imply everything is in order, even though there was an RMAN write error during the middle of the backup process?I'm also interested in understanding how Commvault assesses the integrity to ensure the restorability of the ora backup, even in cases where the process concludes successfully despite encountering several write errors during the middle of the backup. thanks
can anyone help me know the difference between Difference between retention lock ,Enabling WORM , compliance lock if we execute enable retention lock workflow will we be able to disable it later ?

Hi,We are getting a Communicatins failure between a SQL Windows server and our commserve. The Error returned is : Invalid Certificate. Check if the Client has a valid Certificate. client shows Not Ready Status Has anyone ever seen this? If so is it a CV error or is there something the SQL ADMIN has to check on their side?
Hi, I set the Maximum number of parallel data transfer on my MAs to 300, but the Device streams on my storage policies is set to 100. I have 5 storage polices. I just wonder if I need to increase the Device streams to higher number than 100? Thank you.
We see errors like below. Current solution from Commvault support is to limit the number of parallel tasks.30858 5816 08/09 07:07:48 24447881 [cvd] CloseFile() -xxxxxx-eu-central-1/GX4JNW_06.08.2020_05.24/CV_MAGNETIC/V_4706210/CHUNK_339211994, mode = WRITE, error = Please reduce your request rate. I also contacted AWS support and the answer was very detailed and explained how to improve the situation on software side, As you may already know, S3 has the capability to automatically scale its capacity as request rates increase for each prefix. In most scenarios, your application can potentially achieve up to 3,500 PUT/COPY/POST/DELETE requests per second per prefix. Due to this, there are no adjustments that can be made to your requests. However, to fully utilize S3's automatic capacity expansion, your workload should consistently process 3,500 or more requests per second, rather than occasional bursts of 3,500 requests per second. Furthermore, since S3's request limits are linked to pre
Hello Im having the following error:Error Code: [91:417] Failure Reason: VDDK thread timeout, possible VDDK deadlock encountered. [vm.srvfs3.vmdk-Failed to open disk ; vm.srvfs3_1.vmdk-Failed to open disk ; vm.srvfs3_2.vmdk-Failed to open disk ]. Can you help me how to fix this?
Good morning,We have 3 subclients clients; VM, Filesystem, and MS SQL on a VM hosted on Hyper-V. I’m looking at the backup history in the msdb database, and my MS SQL backups kicked off from Commvault are working as intended, and I see “CommVault Galaxy Backup” as the backup set name. However… the VM incremental backup kicks off at 10pm, and I see message like this in the SQL alert log: I/O is frozen on database MyDatabase. No user action is required. However, if I/O is not resumed promptly, you could cancel the backup. Then a few seconds later: I/O was resumed on database MyDatabase. No user action is required. The backup at 9:25 was the incremental backup, while the 9:02 AM backup was me calling a full backup from the console. This might be a better example, this shows the 10pm incremental and a database backup: Can someone help me understand this? The MS SQL datafiles are supposed to be excluded from the VM backups, so why is the differential VM backup freezing IO on my datafiles?
Hello, TeamI have deployed and completed configuration of commserve server in about 3 weeks and when trying to access the command center; the error below shows upp.I have restarted the tomcat services multiple times. Kindly help on this

Hi teamI am creating and testing some DR procedures including vmware VM restore . I have done some restore performance tests. My commvault is. 11.28. I use hotadd mode (the most efficient transport in my environment because of thin disks). Media agent and vm proxy servers are windows 2019. And restore speed of large single VM seems to be below expectations. It is about 990 GB/hr (275 MB/s, 2,2 gbps). What is a bootleneck ? CPU or MEM is not a limit I believe but I noticed that the data transfer speed between media agent and proxy servers during restoring does not exceed 2.2 gbps (240 MB/s) over a 10 gbps network. It seems to me not enough.I checked outside commvault what can I expect from my hardware. The robocopy network transfer tests of a single relatively large 50 GB file (vmdk) from media agent to proxy and shows a transfer on LAN net of no less than 7 gbps (870 MB/s). ?3 times better than in commvault process ? Is it expected behaviour ? Why ? Can I tune this ? I have tried with nn
Hi,We’re running ver: 11.32.6 since a week back. Now we’re getting the following error for one of our MA’s.“Error Code: [13:244]Description: [Media write operation failure] [Dedupe disk media] [There is not enough space on the disk.]Source: xxxx, Process: cvd” When I check disk we’ve got a bit over 2.2TB free space on disk which equals to 56% free disk.
Hi Team,In our environment we have multipal DC’s and we are using Commvault idata agent to back them up.I need to understand the correct approach for restoring a DC with AD using our currnt backup methods in the event of AD being unavailable.Do i need to introduce any new method to backup and restore DC with AD. Regards,Rahul Raina
This just started a week or so ago. The Commserve shows libraries for a particular media agent server as “marked not ready”. Looking into the cvfwd file on both servers shows the following. On MA:”ERROR: Connection from <commserver. to localhost:50580 is being denied due to not matching a configured whitelist and due to no services listening on this port.”There are actually 4 error lines for each instance. “validate(), “do_connect_client90(), and two with “Client connection failed….”In the cvfwd file on the commserve, there are similar ERROR messages. After a minute or two, the libraries are “now marked ready” and I can see an established connection on that port (50580).Do not see this on other MA servers. The MA and Commserve server are in the same IP subnet.Does not appear to be traffic related, as this will occur while nothing is going on between them. And does not appear to be impacting functionalityAny suggestions or hints?.
Hi All, Getting below error when running backup for Sybase database. Error Code: [71:30]Description: Error while running a command on Sybase server :[Can't open a connection to site 'SYB_BACKUP'. Full scale test instance of Commvault before deploying into production. Getting issues with viewing the contents of Hypervisor VM Groups, changing configuration of VM groups and some items using “view details” on the health report.“Default” Hypervisor VM Groups were created upon adding the hypervisors and the content left at the default / or all unprotected VM’s. Immediately upon creating the groups it is not possible to view the content tab without getting the detail flash very quickly on screen before displaying “something went wrong”. Also cannot change anything in the options section of the VM Group configuration page without “something went wrong”. I have deployed several instances of Commvault for test and this has happened on all instances. I have tried running the install again in repair mode and it does not resolve the issue. Note it is possible to view the content by looking at protected and unprotected VM’s but cant’ modify content from that page. Also issues with the “view
Hi,I couldn’t find any crowdstrike best practices I could only find the antivirus exclusions - https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/8665_antivirus_exclusions_for_windows.htmlIs there any specific best practice for crowdstrike? Best regards,
I want to explain a problem we have:Hardware WORM was active on all of our disk libraries. We are not aware of having activated this functionality and as support indicated, there is no trace that we have executed a workflow to activate it.Despite that, the WORM functionality was not active in any of our Storage Policies, only at the disk library level. We could change the retention of our copies, delete backups, micro-prunning working, and our databases were NEVER sealed. We updated version 11.28 to 11.30 and suddenly the “WORM Storage” feature is activated in ALL storage policies at storage pool level. As per the below document, this changes are applied on SP30 onwards, if hardware WORM is enabled:https://documentation.commvault.com/2023/essential/149133_changes_in_commvault_platform_release_2023.html Now we cannot delete backups, nor change the retention of our copies and ALL databases will be sealed every X days, micro-prunning disable. In addition, we have not been able to plan the
Hello community, After we replaced the media agents in our test environment and the storage policies were redirected to the new media agents, I get the following error message. Description: The virtual machine collect file could not be uploaded to MediaAgent [cvmatapp06]. Unable to initialize connection to remote file cache.I've been dealing with this problem for half a day but can't find a solution. Maybe someone here can give me a hint. I had already replaced the media agents in production but didn't have this problem then.RegardsThomas
