I have never upgraded the Commvault version before, so I have a few questions I'd like to inquire about.

1.Can I upgrade from SP16 to SP32 directly, or should I stop at an intermediate version first?

2.Should I upgrade the HPK of SP16 to the latest version before upgrading the SP itself?

3.My Commvault SQL version is 2012. Should I upgrade SQL first, or will the SQL upgrade automatically when I upgrade the Commvault SP to a version that requires a newer SQL version?

Hi @Veerasak,

If the CommServe server is at Service Pack 16, you must first update the CommServe server to Platform Release 2022E (11.28).

Documentation can be found here: https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/upgrading_commserve_computer.html

Also, What is the OS of the CommServe? Are you going to be upgrading the OS here also?

-It may be worth reviewing the machine meets the current requirements:

Hardware: https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/hardware_specifications_for_commserve_server.html
System: https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/commserve_server_system_requirements_windows.html

Best Regards,

Michael

My commvault use os windows server 2012r2. but i will upgade os windows server 2012r to 2019 before upgrade Service Pack.

Being such an old installation I would do a Hardware Refresh into 2022E (11.28) first, ensuring Windows is also updated to your preference of 2019 or 2022 Server.

This should deploy SQL Server 2019 Standard with 11.28 - Leaving you on a much better position for a later upgrade into 11.36, which only supports SQL Server 2022

For now, once you have completed the Hardware Refresh into 11.28 - Just upgrade to 11.32

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/commserve_hardware_refresh_overview.html

Worth noting that during the hardware refresh, you can provide the 11.16 CSDB and should be upgraded during the CSRecovery Operation (during this step = https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/commserve_hardware_refresh_setting_up_commserve_database_in_new_hardware.html)

I would, if anything, make sure you install the latest MR for 11.16 - Which is MR250 before you attempt the operation.
