So new to Vault Tracking, and want to deploy it into our backup environment. The only concern is that in order to enable it, you have to check “Export Media After Job Finishes”

The schedule is of course set to a storage policy which has up to 20 + clients associated to it. My concern is the wording of “Export Media After Job Finishes”  because its not clear if its saying it will export a tape once a job finishes as in job 1 of 20 is done it will export that tape, and so on and so forth making up to 20+ tapes, or if it is referring to the specific Job associated to it at the schedule level.

For example, we have a schedule that runs for these 20+ clients that run a daily diferential backup, weekly full backup, and a monthly full backup. If i enable vault tracking on the weekly Schedule would the “Export Media After Job Finishes”  refer to the weekly full schedule as being the “job?

Hello, you have a few options to export and manage media through vault tracker beyond the backup schedule policies. I would suggest reviewing the documentation around Vault tracker policies as you have more flexibility in managing the tape media.

Vault Tracker Policies

Use Vault Tracker policies to track regular media movements such as shipment of the media from a library to offsite storage or a media repository, or shipment of media between two locations, and so on.

Hope this helps.

Hello TP,

From documentation, this is set at the subclient or AuxCopy level and would only be associated to jobs scheduled for that subclient or AuxCopy and not all jobs for the storage policy.

NOTE: You will need the enterprise license for this feature.

Additionally, when you select “Export Media After Job Finishes” you should have an option to select the Media Status to export (I.E. you can pick only to export full or retired media). I know the “Export Media After Job Finishes” sounds a bit deceiving, as in all media will be exported, but when you move through the dialogue it should give you options of what will be exported.

Please let me know if you have further questions on this.

Thank you,

To add to my information above the link was just a bit off for Vault Tracker policies -
