Building Custom Report

Hi Fellas,We have a BI server that we use in our own environment. Here we want to make a report on the BI server. This report will show the following information. It will show information such as Client Name, hostname, type of agent installed on it, content, last backup date according to Agent, whether there is Aux Copy, next backup date. Which tables should we read on CommServ DB for this information? Or is there a SQL Query you know about it? Best Regards.

Selective copy - Last Full backup Of the Month to be selected for Aux copyExample: for the month of march, scheduled Monthly Full backup is at March 31st 11:30PM, somehow if this backup get failed, as per below selective copy logic.. it will select the previous[March 23rd/24/25/26/27/28/29/30th ...etc] Full backup as Monthly backup.But actually, If the Full backup failed on 31st March… i need a logic for monthly backup as next/ subsequent Full backup to be taken as Monthly Backup [i.e ...April 1st/2nd/3rd …. Full backup]?How to get this logic?

Hello, I often have this error on the aux copies, someone has such an idea where it comes from  Error occurred while processing chunk [24954781] in media [V_905802], at the time of error in library [DL1-BNR] and mount path [[XXX03001] F:\], for storage policy [SP-XXX-Servers] copy [YYY] MediaAgent [CCCC]: Backup Job [3886019]. Unable to send the stop data transfer control message to the tail. .

O365 Migration on different console(child)

Looking for some guidance and documentation on can we migrate our current O365 exchange email/sharePoint and One driver backup to anew child console with different storage locations?Will we face any issues with O365 license ? how this O365 License will be counted on new console will that count twice as previous bavkup already holding a license.Any issues with Index server and access node? Anything that needs to be taken care before doing this migration?If I redeploy from scratch all Media agent and index,access node and point to new storage will that be better or migration will good option. your help will be highly appreciated.

Commvault backup statergy for SQL Log Shipping

Commvault backup statergy for SQL Log Shipping for customer database, not looking for commvault side replication from primary server to DR server. what is the method to backup tlog on primary server, will it effect the sql native log shipping. can we perform tlog backup also , wil it effect LSN chain since normal log shpping is happening from SQL server side when we perform T-log backup from commvaultIf we use Log Shipping for the DR server we have been told this will break Comvault’s ability to backup the transaction log.  Is this correct ?  IF so does this mean we can no longer do a restore to a point in time as Comvault does not have the transaction logs.  How does this work with online backups where surely the log are required ?  If this is the case then Log Shipping is NOT fit for purpose for DR

HSX & Isolation

Moving this from the HyperScale to Best Practices board. Hi all, I am in the process of designing an isolated HSX environment. If I share what I am thinking could people have a look and advise me where I could improve. Build my 3-node reference architecture cluster on 11.32 which same subnet as my CommServe & Proxy servers.Each node will have a bonded Active-Backup for Data Protection & Storage Pool . All nics with be connected to a pair of Dell 10GB switches, these switches will have a Data Protection & Storage Pool vLAN created.The Data Protection vLAN will then be connected to the Core Switch. Next, I build two Windows 2022 proxy servers that have FS & VSA agents.I will then configure CommVault network topology to only allow these two proxies talk to my HSX nodes. Finally on my Dell switch I will create an access list to only allow the IP addresses of my proxies talk to the HSX nodes. Any feedback would be great.

Moving a DR Backup Location to a New Location

Dear Team, We are planning to relocate our DR backup environment to another location.Currently, our DR machine is a virtual machine with CommServ live sync enabled and running every 15 minutes. We have a 6-node cluster Hyper Scale 1.5 dedicated to backup purposes in our DR workload. Smart group to remove from SLA count hosts without schedule policies

Hi team, We are on the way to make SLA Report more consistent by remove not scheduled host.Looking for any suggestion how smart group should looks like ?Create one manual group for all schedule policies and second smart  client association to the schedule policies - not equal - [previous create SP] Or... Client by schedule interval - equal to - daily  For all above situation  advance settings KPI → Exclude from SLA

Hi all,I would like to discuss location and sizing of fundamental installation directory. Installation Path - it should be the local system disk, required space will be used from the system diskIndex Cache Path - it shouldnt be the local system disk, at least 200GB free space neededDatabase Engine Installation Path - could it be the local system drive? The space is allocated by the installer itselfCommserve Database Installation Path - at least 200 GB free space for Medium environment, should it be different than local drive?Disaster Recovery Path - it has to be available if the local system crashesCheers!

Job Summary report for audit using Private Metric server

Customer has setup Private Metric server for having reports beyond the Storage policy retention.  He is running the job summary report which to connect to commserve (CommserveDB), he got this updated to Metric server and CVCloud DB, however the jobs reported as still the same as before. (no data beyond SP retention). Customer Ask:  backup history data beyond SP retention till last one year.  i have found the below community posts relating to the issue but not addressing it directly.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/aging_job_history_data.html Also found the below link for retention settings for metric server, however unable to find a way to add the job summary report hereConfiguring Retention Settings for Metrics Reports Data (commvault.com) Any information regarding the ask is appreciated.

should media agents get backed up

Hello CV Community We have four virtual Media Agents which work in a Windows Hyper-V environment.  Its come to our attention recently that they are failing a VM level backup.  This is due to them having Virtual Fibre channels which are mapped directly to storage.  I cant see anyway of filtering out vFC’s and as a result the backup is failing.  My main questions are  Is it good practice to backup the Media Agents on a weekly basis? If it is, how do I exclude the fibre channels?  The issue seems to be it cannot create a snapshot due to the integration of Virtual Fibre Channels.May thanksTony Q

MediaAgent - Windows Administrative Shares

Hi all,After installing the MediaAgent Package on some Windows Servers (These just require the component and do not not act as a Data Mover or host a DR Share) I get the once a day 64:1142 Critical Code Event logged:  Administrative share are enabled on the MediaAgent XXX which could lead to potential security exploits, please review and take necessary steps.Having reviewed https://kb.commvault.com/article/72274 this article only really seems concerned with disk libraries and DR Shares that use an Admin share in its path. I have 2 servers that this is being logged in event viewer for, yet they only have the default C$, Admin$ and IPC$.  Should Commvault be flagging the C$ as something that should be removed?  Indeed if I apply a reg key (AutoShareServer = 0) the alert is suppressed, but this also removes the Admin$ Share.   Are these alerts in the Event Viewer supposed to be triggered for these default Shares by design or is it being over zealous and picking up these in error?  The Cri

vm replication to azure

I have on prem vmware which need to be replicated to azure and we have regular backup set for all the vm’s.I have a media agent and storage in azure confgurued. I added azure in commserv using managed identity.i created replication group and selected periodic replication and in the target i selected the added azure vm hypervisor. It asked me to select a access node so i chose the media agent in azure for that.Now the replication is failing bcoz i can see its trying to backup using the of media agent in azure and it doesnt have access to on prem vm.i selected access node as auto still same, why the target access node being used to backup production vm. what i need is the backup of on prem vm should use on prem access node to backup and whatever operation in the azure side should use azure vm access nodeis this possible?do i need use orchestrated replication in this case ?

Command excetion

Our devops team have a test that validates the commvault client group with below powershell command../qoperation execscript -sn GetClientGroup.sql -si cg=$group | Select-string -Pattern "^$(hostname)$"They execute that command inside the E:\\Program Files\\CommVault\\Simpana\\Base.The file 'GetClientGroup.sql' no longer seems to be in the E:\\Program Files\\CommVault\\Simpana\\Base folder. So our test is failing.Do you have any idea on how we can validate commvault client group via powershell or any other way.Thank you!!

Custom reports for fetching job started by and job started from

I want to fetch the job details by  “job started by” and “job started from” job started by will give the admin/system who started the joband job started from will give started by schedule or manual or gui etc. Motive is to get the job details with the schedule details as well such that I can filter out only scheduled jobs excluding manually initiated jobs. Can someone please help me to get the details form csdb , I am not able to find which db and which table to search for these details.

Recover a CSDB to a higher level version?

Hi guys, I’m planning an upgrade and move of an Commserver version 11.20 on Windows Server 2012 R2 to a new server on Windows 2019 installed with Commserve 11.28 2022E to get the MSSQL upgraded as well. I will use DR Assistant Tool as I usually do and as far as I can see in docs this should work according to this statement…“Verify that the destination CommServe host installed with the same (or higher) service pack and hotfix pack as the database that is available in the DR backup that you plan to restore.”  Has anyone done a similar upgrade/move between versions? Regards,Patrik

Compliance Lock on Oracle with RMAN retention

Hi, We have setup a third isolated copy on CloudLib. On this copy we are also enabling Commvault Compliance Lock. We have Oracle backups running to our Primary Copies where we have RMAN managing the retention. As per the documented instructions we have the CV retention set to Infinite on out Oracle Plan and this works perfect as we can see the jobs aging off per the RMAN retention. The question/concern is what happens on the third copy if we set the retention to Infinite and enable Compliance Lock? We cannot risk locking the data with Infinit retention for obvious reasons.Anyone out there that have experience of this? What is best practice? Regards,Patrik

Cyberark Integration

You can manage and secure Commvault login credentials, application credentials, and administrative login sessions using CyberArk’s Privileged Credentials and Session Management solution.With CyberArk and Commvault integration, you can synchronously rotate account passwords across your environment. Commvault receives password rotation requests to update application and local admin account credentials so that backups continue to run seamlessly, without manual intervention. You can also use CyberArk session management to log on to Commvault using one-time use admin credentials. This went relatively straightforward. The only thing that is missing in Commvault is a way to verify that the password rotation was successful.One can either try using the commcell user or the application user to browse a subclient to test whether the change was successful.
