Committed job status with incomplete dataset

Hey @all, I currently have the following problem, for which I could use help: Since 29 March, I can see in my daily backup report that certain shares of a file server (File Server Agent) have a dark green background and show the job status "committed". Although something is being backed up, the amount of data is very small and the backup is therefore incomplete. However, failed objects are not displayed. It is always only the same shares. Other shares on the same file server are backed up completely. A special feature here is that the file server is unfortunately also the MediaAgent.I get the following messages in the event details of the committed jobs:Error occurred in Disk Media, Path [\\x\x\x\CV_MAGNETIC\x] [Insufficient memory available to perform the current operation.]. For more help, please call your vendor's support hotline. In this case, the x only serves as a placeholder for the path to the backup target. This is followed by several attempts.When the job is finished, the fol

Retention periode

Hello,I made several plans with two backup destination (primary and secondary).On these backup destination, the retention periode is 3months, but when i look to restore data, i see that i can restore data from beyond 3 months.Why ?The Data aging is runing daily, so i don’t understand the problem.Also, some plans respect the retention period and other no.

Issue to configure the NAS snap backup with NetApp storage

Hi All, One of the customer configured the NAS Backup with NetApp SVM and enabled CIFS and NFS protocol under the same NAS client. https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/add_nas_file_server.html He enabled the snap backup at Instance level on each protocol (CIFS/NFS). But whenever he creates user-defined sub-client under the specified protocol, the snap-backup was not enabled by default and need to enable by manually. Would like to understand that whether it is a behavior by design or anything I need to do extra to automate it?

11.34.22 - How To Retire Index/Analytics Servers

Does anyone know how to retire an Index/Analysis Server that contains roles?  I can get all of the roles to remove except the last one.  I also just attempt to right-click on the Index Server entity and choose Delete, but it says that it is associated to DC Plans [ODA_DCPLAN_8534] and to remove the connection and try again.  We only have 2 plans - Threat Analysis and FSO.  There is no association or relationship I can find in the Command Center to either plan let alone any other backup plans.  All I want to do is delete the Index Server I created - there isn’t any data on it.  It had another node on it at one time, but I also removed that from the configuration hoping to tear it down one piece at a time.  Please help!  Very frustrating.  We are running Windows Server 2022 on the CS and FSO/Threat Analysis on the 2 Index Servers.  These servers are VMs.

Best practice for transitioning existing backup plans to the new 2024 server backup plans?

We are in the process of upgrading clients to Commvault 2024 for the added security benefits as well as the potential storage savings. In the change notes for Commvault 2024, the changes state for backups other than database backups, “each backup job will back up only the new and modified items and create a full recovery image. Therefore, running repeated full backup is not required.”I know that existing plans remain unchanged and follow the old format, so I imagine the change process is just associating existing entities to a new plan. This sounds a lot like a synthetic backup, so it sounds like it will create a new full backup to start a synthetic chain which might be storage intensive depending on the environment and their storage constraints.Am I understanding this correctly? And if so, would I also need to be conscious about updating the synthetic full backup schedules via the CommCell Console?

Backup to tape fails due to a network pipe issue

HiGood dayMy backups were running before now, all of a sudden they started failing because of this error: Unable to communicate with remote machine {Linux media Agent} to start data pipe. Please check the following:1. Network connectivity exists between client and remote machineProduct servuces are running on remote machine. Firewall is setup properly between client and remote machine Error [Connection failed on oracle_dba with these errors: 1 Couldn/t complete tunnel connection to tape_linux)server on 192.168.1.112:8413: No route to hostAll these seem like network issues. I tried to add entries into the host files of all clients affected. It still keeps failing. This is the caseI want to backup oracle files and instances to tape, via a linux media agent. The backups ran some days ago, and all of a sudden they have failed with the errors i quoted up here. Someone should help me resolve this challenge. Thanks.

Any storage consumption differences with different Encryption types?

IHAC who wants to change from 3DES encryption to AES-256. I know we don’t re-encrypted data that already exists in the library, but the question is do we see a noticeable difference in storage consumption between ciphers? Huge number of new files scanned

Hi,Is there a way to identify files by name and location who where during the file scan marked as new?We know they are not new as they the data backupped is low.The reason is probably a right or attribute changed as we also see no modification dates changed.Data is located on a network share on a Isilon using a Windows File Agent

Need help Migrating encrypted tapes to EMC s3 storage

Hello We have Commvault Recovery environment . All our Tapes are encrypted using IBM SKLM . Now we are planning to migrate the Tape data to EMC s3 storage to eliminate tape.What is the steps to need to create a aux copy to migrate the tape data to s3 storage. How to eliminate the encryption which was enabled on the Tape while migrating through aux copy. Thanks,Sandy

Receiving multiple errors [13:138] error processing chuck after array disk failures

I had 2 disks go bad in my local iSCSI SAN late last week. I have multiple mount paths attached to it from Commvault. The array has since been repaired, and the RAID rebuilt successfully, but I continue to get these errors, and my concern is there is some disk corruption on the drive(s). The mount paths are formatted in Windows as ReFS. I tried running scandisk, but it’s not available on ReFS, but I could use the Refsutil to scan and fix the drive if necessary.I’m seeing the errors on Aux Copy jobs, which is interesting, cause all my Aux Copies are sending data to Azure, not the local SAN. Not sure if that matters or not.Any thoughts on where to go from here?

Compliance lock on disk storage - overheadédisk usage penalty

Hi. CV version is 11.32.45, we want enable compliance lock (CL) on local disk storage. For what I can read, there no DDB sealing involve with that option vs WORM at hardware level.With no DDB sealing, we should not have have space increase by enabling CL?Am I right?

M365 dynamic groups

HelloMy organisation currently has a process of deactivating exiting staff members by removing 365 licenses.I therefore have two dynamic groups one active (which captures licensed users) and another disabled.  These two dynamic groups form the content for OneDrive for Business backups in Commvault. Office 365 app: OneDrive_activeusers                                    Content: backup_ActiveUsersOffice 365 app: OneDrive_disabledusers                                Content: backup_disabledusers When a user moves from one group to another Commvault seems to do a new full backup.  If this is the case, are we doubling up on the backups unnecessarily?Thank you.

Clarification on Data Size Changes After Migrating to Azure Using Azure Data Box

Hello Community,I’m currently in the process of migrating archive backups to Azure using Azure Data Box. I have a specific question regarding the overall size of data after migration. Could someone provide insights into whether there might be any changes to the data size during this process? If so, what kind of differences should I take into account? Questions about configuring immutable copy on azure and worm protection in commvault

Hi All, Our environment is a mid size enterprise setup, we have around 250 servers hosted on On-Prem and Azure. We have configured sync copy to azure with retentions of 10 years for the On-Prem servers and for servers on Azure we have just 1 copy of backup. We would like to have immutable copy on azure and worm protection in commvault. It would be really grateful if anyone can list down the steps and precautions to be taken along with price calculator. We would like to have a weekly full backup with 14 days retention and 2 cycles on this copy.We would also like to know if deduplication is supported? and what preferred storage type (Hot/Cold) on Azure is preferred.Can we use existing media agent which is being used for Sync copy to perform the copy on this selective copy?Does this solution offer a complete end to end protection from cyber attack/ransomware?

Can we run existing MAs without DDB & IndexCache after migrating them to new MA

Hello,We are having two physical media agents with shared disk library (CIFS) and tape library connected to them. We want to virtualize these media agents, however, after virtualizing we want to run the existing physical MAs for some time due to backup retention on the tape library.We want to setup new virtual MA, migrate the DDB & IndexCache to new virtual. Now the existing physical media is left with the tape library and no DDB/Index. Is it possible to perform restores from the tape library using these physical MAs?Idea is to run the new backups using virtual MAs and turn the physical MAs off when retention on the tape library expires. Thanks.

Restoring data from Secondary to Primary site when Clients cannot directly access secondary site

I have two sites, Primary and Secondary. Withe Auxcopy to the secondary site which is stores the only long term retention copies. We have firewalls in place so only the clients can only see the servers in the site they are in.This causes a problem when I am trying to restore long term retention data from the Secondary site to the primary site. We have a work around of Auxcopying data from Secondary to Primary site but would like a more elegant solution. I think there is a method where I can use a media agent in my Primary site to proxy my requests to the Secondary site to do these recoveries but cannot work out how. Any solutions appreciated.

HP MSA 2050 with Commvault

Hi Everyone, We Currently have Commvault commserv (All VMware Environment) targeted to HyperScale appliances. However, HyperScale 1300 is EOL/EOS. We have a spare HP MSA 2050 SAN storage available and require your advise before we configure it as a library.As HP MSA being an entry level storage, is it recommended to be used as target library even though disk speed are 7k for  HyperScale and HP MSA? Would there be performance issues as storage needs to mounted to additional server server to be used over 10 gig network as VMware does not have SFPs? Would configuring backups on HP-MSA give us same dedeuplcation ratio as that of HyperScale appliances ?

Infinidat with Intellisnap

Can anyone advise on how to integrate Infinidat with Commvault Intellisnap. Can we Use Commvault aux copies to copy the app-consistent primary snapshots to another storage array Or Commvault storage.Will these remote copy snapshots will be revert capable ?
