Hi,

we got a question from a customer, if it is possible to use the Oracle Managed Files (OMF) for a restore of a Portable Database (PDB).

The customer would like to let the OMF handle the file location, just point to the OMF and start the restore. Is there some switches or additional setting the customer can use?

If they input the file location by hand, OMF wont recognise the instance.

Hi @ADN GMBH,

We don’t have any specific options to handle OMF file structure.

The restore procedure should automatically convert the files.

Could you please provide more details?

-What is the error?
-How did you submit the restore? Is it from commvault console or from command line?
-Also, please clarify  “If they input the file location by hand, OMF wont recognize the instance”?

Hi @Mahender Reddy

  • What is the error?
There is no error, only the restored DB isn’t listed in the OMF
  • How did you submit the restore? Is it from commvault console or from command line?
At them moment only from the Console
  • Also, please clarify  “If they input the file location by hand, OMF wont recognize the instance”?
We tried also the Out-of-Place restore, but in this case you have to provide a location and can’t simply point to the OMF to handle the files on his own.

@ADN GMBH , following up on this, were you able to get this resolved?  Likely best to open a support incident if it’s still an issue.

Hi Mike,

we did open a support case, but it wasn’t resolved.

The customer was asked to create a CMR but with all of the end-of-year business, it hasn’t been done, yet. I will speak with the customer soon and get the CMR created.

@ADN GMBH , hope all is well!

Gentle follow up on this, were you abler to get a CMR created?
