Hi,

We have PostgreSQL Clients with both FSBased and DumpBased backups running as dba’s want to have both point in time restore and table-based restore possibilities.

The FSBased backups runs fine with good performance but the DumpBased backups are slow. If I configure more than one stream they are allocated but one stream at the time is used anyway.

Is there a way to speed up these DumpBased backups?

Will Block-Level backups provide the same requirements for restores? ie both granular and point in time log restores?

Regards,

/Patrik

@Patrik,

The process uses only one stream as we could only take the dump of one database at a time.
We need the speed of the database dump. Could you please open a ticket and provide logs of a recent dump based backup for review?

From the block level backups, we can achieve point-in-time restore and granular restore as well. Please check the following links for more details.

Please let me know in case of any questions.

Hi Patrik,

Block level feature is the best solution for them. You can find the kernel versions supported here, https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/21623_postgresql_block_level_backup.html

@Meera In this topic the kernel versions supported seems to be of importance.
Our customer is running Oracle Linux version 8.6 and in the support list for Postgresql Block level backup Supported kernels versions, the highest version is above 7.5  = Oracle Linux 7.x with kernel 3.8.13.x .
https://documentation.commvault.com/11.26/expert/21623_postgresql_block_level_backup.html#list-of-supported-kernel-versions

Is there a way to get this to work anyway?
What are the limitations to setup Postgresql Block level backup on Oracle Linux 8.6 ?
