Hi

I have a new ESX server at a remote site which has been integrated into our vCenter, there is no backup infrastructure at this remote site.

As I understand it, I am sending all the traffic from the remote site to my Media Agent (which is also the Proxy Server) at the central site, which then does the deduplication work

Is there a way to get client side deduplication working at my remote site, to lessen the load over the network and speed up the backup, would a local proxy server do the trick?

Hope that makes sense

Many thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes, as you say a Local Proxy (VSA) could be leveraged with Client Side Deduplication to lessen the load on the network.

You could use a VM or Physical Machine (with VirtualServer Agent Installed) to achieve this, See the requirements here: System Requirements for Virtual Server Agent with VMware (commvault.com)

Set the new VSA Proxy as the Proxy for the Subclient of the Remote Site VM’s. In the Storage Device > Deduplication Tab, set the Signature generation to “on Client”.

Best Regards,

Michael
