Hello team,

I have actually multiple accounts on AWS

1 commserve is hosted on premise

1 commserve is on AWS (standby)

Actually I have 2 media agents located in an account name common account (VPC Account)

Also I have some other AWS accounts that use the Media agents located in the common account to backup the data (Intellisnap API + agents)

we use the assume role to allow clients from others accounts to use the common media Agents that are located on the Common account.

We have also 2 other media agents that are located on another account but they were used for test.

goal :

as the environment is already qualified we prefer to use the existing test Media agent to avoid to create new ones with new IP address in the Common account

I want to increase the existing Gridstor located in the common AWS account with the Media Agents located in the test Account to get more performance

We will have 2 media agent located on a VPC and 2 other located in another VPC but on the same gridstor

also a question about how mediaAgents share their dedup database. When the Media agents are in the same VPC no problem but when the media agents are located on other accounts ? I think it’s not good for performance because dedup trafic pass through firewall ?

Sorry for this quick diagram

thanks !

@Bloopa , quick question to get started.

Can these Test environment media agents see your prod CommCell?  Do you need to multi instance them to connect them to the prod Commserve first?

Hello Mike,

Yes, they can see the commserve and they are already connected and I can backup each AWS account through these test media agent (they host their own DDB)

I am not using multi instance.

Hi @Bloopa !  Apologies for the delay, I was on holiday from Dec 10th (and got back today).

Looking at what you have mapped out here, I would expect some delay in this scenario.\

To confirm, you’d be creating a Gridstor pool of Media Agents that exist in different AWS accounts?  What’s the latency between these?  that’s likely the best place to start to see what your baseline will look like,

Hello @Mike Struening no problem thank you.

Yes, I have created a gridstor with 2 media Agents that are located on for example VPC MASTER.

I want to add 2 media Agents to this Gridstor but those Media Agents are located on another VPC let say VPC2.

these 4 Media agents can see the Commserve.

for the latency, you mean latency between the 2 VPC’s ? I am not a network specialist but i think that in the actual aws configuration if VPC MASTER need to communicate with VPC2 it must go through firewall but I will clarify that.

That would really be my only concern.  Forget cloud for a second and just think ‘I have 2 other Media Agents I want to add to a gridstor configuration’.  As long as any clients that would use them will see solid performance, you should be fine, though I’ll also ask some of our folks here just in case.

edit: spoke to the Media Management support leadership who had the same thoughts I shared above.  As long as the connection throughput is fine, you should be fine as well!

Hi @Mike Struening,

Finally, we decide to create two additional instances on the same VPC (account) to increase the gridstor.

If we use the two Media agent that are installed on the other VPC, the DDB traffic will pass through the firewalls. (communications between VPC’s)

I will do that this week.

Thanks for your help.
