Hello,

One of our customer wants to remove the SQL application plugin (application aware backup) installed in his VMs and replace it by the “real” SQL agent to take a streaming backup for the SQL environment. The application plugin was installed during the first application aware backup.

Is there a procedure to remove the SQL application plugin and install the SQL iDatagent?

Thanks

Best regards

Hello @brucquat

The SQL agent is part of the application aware so that is already installed you just need to change the config.

On the VSa subclient that contains this VM disable the application aware portion. On the SQL subclient uncheck intellisnap option. Once that is complete you can schedule regular SQL streaming backups.

Note if you have account info setup on the VSA subclient under guest credentials make note of that so you can enter that in the SQL agent properties of the SQL client.

Thanks for your feedback. So, the application plugin mentioned in Commvault documentation is the SQL Agent -)

However, in our case, we will perform the following changes:

  1. The VMs, where SQL is running, will be moved to another VMware environment
  2. The new VMware environment (with the SQL VMs) will be backed-up by another CommCell environment where the version of the Commserve will be different than the original one

So, in such a case (Commvault versions are different), we need to remove the application plugin and reinstall the SQL Agent to get the last version of the SQL Agent?

Thanks.

HI @brucquat,

If you are moving the client to a new Commcell then I would recommend uninstalling all the software from the VM.  When you go to reinstall if you are only doing streaming SQL backups you can install just the file system agent and SQL.
