Ver11 SP16 Is there a way to report on how much space an individual server(s) backup is consuming on disk. Optimally I would be able to run this report through out the entire environment (every server) Looking specifically for VSA backups?

HyperV backup is failing to backupk 30 or so VM.   The failed VM shows this error: “Virtual machine has snapshots older than configured expiry threshold hours. The backup encountered errors while removing expired snapshots for the virtual machine. Please try removing them manually and retry backup.”Removing the expired snapshots?  Where?

Hello,I’m getting a partial failure when doing a backup operation to one of my client in vmware. The failure reason goes as follow: SERVERNAME\[DATASTORENAME] SERVERNAME/VMDKNAME-000001.vmdk FailedFailed to collect disk block information. After doing some google fu and trying to find something in commvault KB I failed short. Anyone can help me in resolving this? Thanks

i would like to know how the restore works , considering i have a full backup on weekend like Saturday and then daily incremental . now i want restore from last Wednesday , how the restoration works ?system go for the last full backup and then check the incrementals then convert it as a full backup and restore , or do we need to do it manually ??

I’ve tried 3 different deployments of the FREL .ova with different custom root logins and none of them work - i.e. can’t login Is there a default root password that isn’t listed in the ‘help’?

My question is this.  I have a single VM Backup subclient that backups up 5 VM’s.  One of the VM’s I would like to remove to lower my total backup overhead.  I can not delete the “Job” because there are other VM’s in it.  I just want the 1 VM removed from all backups and removed from the overhead of our license. I understand that I can wait for the "data aging” to happen on the jobs but we hold them for over 1 year.  And these VMs make up almost 9TB which is why I would like to remove them without waiting. Please feel free to ask any questions I would be happy to explain more. Kind Regards,Pauul

Hello All, Today we have received the task from Business to restore some file from Linux VM in AZURE. Media Agent is only Windows VM and during the process of restore indexes in Commvault Commcell Error appeared. And my question do we have some workaround in that case to restore the file from that type of backup? I see two options: Restore whole machine and reassigned disk to production server and then copy file between the locations.  Create a new one Media Agent built on Linux OS and restore the data directly to the server.But I am looking for some abother option which can be performed in that type of case. I will be very graceful for any adviceories or any ideas. Regards, Michal 

Hi,I’m working with a customer that has an azure policy set that enforces all resources created has a set of custom tags during creation. This stops the VSA of creating a snapshot as expected.Cannot see anything from the documentation on this, but are the Commvault backup process able to set a set of custom tags on the snapshot during backup? Or would they require to disable this policy for snapshots?  

Hi, We have setup a Commvault Media Agent to backup VMs using HotAdd transport mode.The setup works but its average throughput is less than ideal.The below is the setup of the Media AgentDirectly FC connected to a LTO-8 tape library with 4 FC drives 16 CPU cores 32 GB memory With the same above SPEC in our Netbackup environment, it can achieve an average throughput of 300MB/Sec, or 1TB/Hour. However, this Commvault Media Agent could only achieve around 500 GB/Hour, which is only half of what its potential should be. That being said, in Netbackup, we did increase its Number_Data_Buffers and Size_Data_Buffers to maximise its performance, so I’m wondering if there are similar parameters in Commvault that I can tweak to make it run faster ? Thanks,Kelvin

We have had a EL7 File Recovery Enabler for Linux (FREL) for 4 years now. I believe when it was initially deployed we were on V11, Service Pack (before you called them Feature Releases) 13.But now we’re starting to move to EL8 VMs so after coming across this issue with our couple of backed up EL8 VMs, I figured it was time to deploy a new FREL for EL8.However, in my admin console, because we already have an existing FREL, “linuxrestore” my options for step 5 in your instructions where I should be seeing a “deploy new FREL VM” option, simply doesn’t exist. I can either choose my existing linuxrestore FREL, or “not set”.What am I supposed to

Hello, For some reason i don’t know yet, my vcenter’s intellisnap backup failed since several days. Snap job passed, but backup copy never passed. Now i have a problem with snaps size and dates, my storage team ask me what to do. I would like to fully cancel this job but when trying to kill backup copy it still relaunch immediately, and want to clear the snaps history related to this job (vcenter, even if it does not seem to be problematic here, but storage too). In other words, how can i really cancel an intellisnap composed job to clear all, please? Thanks in advance. Regards.

Hi all. Open Question! I would like to know what I can expect from a Vmware restore, regards to the speed. At the moment I don’t know if my restore speeds are fast or slow. I’m not talking about reverting from a intellisnap snapshot, but fair and square network traffic. What Vmware restore speeds do you get when restoring a single Vmware server?I get:nbd: around 500Gb/hSAN: around 250Gb/hHotadd: Around 900Gb/h Thanks for helping me to determine if my restores are slow. Regards-Anders

Hi everyone.We are facing a Commvault Backup implementation of a VMware Environment over Nutanix Cluster. Our initial idea is to perform NAS Transport Mode or HotAdd mode so as to avoid NBD and get more backup performance.On Commvault side we see that it’s fully soported (we treat this kind of Backup as it was a regular VMware deployment at Commvault level).The thing is that we have found on a Nutanix Document (attached) that it’s a Best Practice to implement NBD backups once protecting VMware VMs with Streaming mode, as you can see in the capture below:  We suppose “that performance issues” refer to too much I/O on Distrubuted DataStore of NTX environment. Good day all I have an issue with a Hyper-V cluster.I have 6 nodes that are all VSA’s.Three of the nodes were upgraded to Windows Server 2016. The remaining three are on Windows 2012 and are pending an upgrade.Since the upgrade it seems that the hosts in the cluster do no communicate with each other during a VM backup.If I use the upgraded nodes as the only VSA’s then I have on issue.Is this issue due to different OS versions? I’ve checked the account permissions on the cluster and the nodes and they’re all correct. The error is see is the normal authentication one usually associated to a permission issue.Error Code: [91:50] Description: Unable to connect to virtual machine host [CORE01] as user [xxx]. We plan on adding new ESXi (VMware) vCenters to our existing environment. During this our Virtual admins will be adding a couple at a time and then moving the existing VMs over so we will have the old ones in place and new ones.I know I will have to deploy and configure the new vCenter (VSA) client and add the hosts and we use Folders. So the Folder names will be mirrored in the old and new existing vCenter environments. With all that being said how will Commvault treat the first backup on the new vCenter clients? Will they be considered full because they are on new hosts or will it see the existing data and only treat it like an incremental because of how the Global Dedupe policy works? I am curious because if everything is a “full” I won’t have the capacity.Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks.

Hello, I have a fresh installation of Commvault version 11.28.56. I am attempting to connect to our vCenter instance through the Command Center GUI. After putting in the information to ‘Add Hypervisor’ I receive a ‘Request body is empty or format is invalid.’ error. We recently had to make changes (stig) to our VMware environment and changed to independent disks.  From my reading on V11.20  we now have to switch to using IntelliSnap if we want to snapshot the vm servers?  Is IntelliSnap another License that we have to purchase or will the option to enable IntelliSnap show up after we have defined an Array?  We were using the provided VMware client to take snap shots which was working fine until the change to independent disks was made.  Now we get Independent disks are not supported error.
