Hi,

How may I know if my Aix environment is supported with DataDomain DDBoost over fiber?

Commvault Version: 11.40 release 22

Commvault Media Agent SO: AIX 7.1/7.2

We have a large Oracle DB with 50Tb that we would like to protect.

Hi @FTenorio,

AIX MediaAgents can be installed and used for basic data movement, but cannot host deduplication (DD) stores—which means they cannot act as the MediaAgent for Data Domain DDBoost libraries (over Fibre Channel or IP).

The  AIX MediaAgents to directly host or manage Data Domain DDBoost libraries is not supported.
For DDBoost integration (including over Fibre Channel), you must use a supported MediaAgent OS such as Linux or Windows (x64), as per the documentation below.

Karthik

Sorry for buggin’ in…. I might be wrong, but the question seems be related to client- direct… Installing the Storage Accelerator and Storage Accelerator Add-ons on the client seems as all there’s needed (unlike in v.11.32 where the Media Agent component is required to be installed). Client writes /ready directly to the DD and backend Media Agents host the meta data (index etc).  So no CVLT dedup will be used in such scenario..

Hi @RubeckDK

You got it right.

The client is a Oracle running on Aix and unfortunately our DataDomain only has 1Gbps network to this server. We would like to understand if DDBoost over FC / SAN can be used.

Tks !

Hi @FTenorio,

AIX is not supported as a MediaAgent or Storage Accelerator client for Data Domain DDBoost integration (including over Fibre Channel/SAN) in Commvault 11.40.

Only Linux and Windows (64-bit) MediaAgents are supported for Data Domain DDBoost (Client or Access library), whether using Ethernet or Fibre Channel (FC/SAN) connectivity.

Karthik

Any chance it may be field supported? Customer is already using DDBoost over IP with Aix and it's working.
