Commserve Livesync licensing

Hi, Commvault docs say that for Commserve DR I will require two Microsoft SQL Server agent licenses: “You must have two Microsoft SQL Server agent licenses, one for the production CommServe host and the other for the standby CommServe host.” But then the Licensing guide says the following: “Server data that is protected purely for the operation of the Commvault solution (CommServe® database, deduplication databases, CommServe LiveSync, etc.) will not consume instance-based, or capacity-based licensing. “ Let’s say I run Commserve in ESXi host that is fully licensed for Commvault Per-Socket and want to use a standby Commserve in a physical device that does not have any Commvault license. I assume only “restores” will take place to the standby Commserve, and the SQL Agent license for the active Commserve will come from the license that covers the sockets for the hypervisor host. Also, data is purely for the operation of the CommServe Livesyc. So, from what I can see there is nothing I ne

Crazy Slow Hyper-V Snapshots

We are in the unfortunate process of migrating from VMware to Hyper-V. We are in mid migration and I am finding that the snapshots are taking longer and longer. Normally snaps are about 15 to 30 min. Now they are taking over 5 hours for a quiesced snapshot. After the snapshot is done, the Backup Copy runs quickly. During the Snapshot job, I see lots of log messages about CHyperVInfo2::RunParallelVMSnapshotTask() - No available thread found for creating software snapshot of virtual machine XXXXXXXX. I can not find any setting for the number of threads that Commvault will use to talk to Hyper-V. I have had a support call open for a bit but not felling like it is making any progress. This feels like it should be a 101 type question. Does anyone else have delays with their Hyper-V snapshots?

Hi (new account due to email change, but still the same guy here)! I have a customer which wants to know if besides SAML and AD/LDAP, OpenID Connect is supported as a user authentication method for Command Center. Does anyone know if this is possible and/of if it’s being considered/developed? Thanks!

Hi all, So I have a customer that has expessed interest in Azue AD (EntraID) backup. According to BoL (https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/azure_active_directory.html), only the following object types are protected: Users Groups Conditional access policies Enterprise applications App registrations Roles The customer is aking how to protect other objects, like devices, etc. Microsoft might create new object type at any time, why don’t we just protect all objects?

11.36.49 - VirtualizeMe - "failed to install grub"

Commcell 11.36.49 1touch Linux iso 11.36.49 (DVD4_R11_B80_SP36.iso) I’m trying to virtualize a 1-touch backed up fileserver and running into a “failed to install grub” error message at the end of the process this is the disk layout i’m trying to restore I have the client logs but I don’t know where to look (and also don’t believe it’s safe to upload as-is here) Any ideas?

Issue with refresh token

Hi community, I’m working on script automation for our Rest API and I should renew my token evrey 30 minu using a refresh token, but when i generat a new token using powershell the new rferesh token include a specific caractère “}” that block my process to generat news token and auhtentification. Hve you any idea to fixe this error or to filter caracter when I refresh my token? Thank you.

Hi,we have a media agent with a b2d library and we want to migrate this to another new windows system.After that we want to reinstall the “old” media agent and hold them for HA. What is best practise to migrate an existing media agent to a new one?What is best practise for HA for the media agents? One productive, one cold stand-by? Or what option do i have? BOL / Documentation - Search Issues

For the past ~month I have been having intermittent issues with Search on BOL \ Documentation. Is this due to the ongoing work? Is it a known issue? When attempting to search from the landing page, an error is returned: When this occurs, I also note that the Search box is missing from the header: And the Additional Settings page is missing the search bar, and default results. Tested with Chrome and Edge. Have cleared cache, tested using In-Private / Incognito, etc.

Storage snapshot and datastore clusters

We will be adding a new VMWARE Envrioment V8 to our Commvault backup; we use Intellisnap backups at the moment, however, in V8 we are using Datastore Clusters; how does that impact Intellinsnap and would the process be same Adding Storge snapshot engine to Commvault Setup Subclient and use the snap engine however, would there be impact if say due to storage DRS a VM moves from one datastore to another. I have seen with Intellisnap (Nutanix) if you have a VM in 2 Datastore it fails the whole job; yet to runinto this senario with pure but how would this work?

Proxmox backup failed at nfs and ceph environment.

I created commserv 11.36.49 environment Proxmox VE 8.3.5 datastore are 3 types, zfs, NFS share, ceph I tried backup , zfs success, but NFS and ceph are failed document said follwoing… I don't know why it failed The Commvault software supports protection of Proxmox VE VMs with the following storage types: Directory NFS CIFS Ceph/RBD LVM-thin https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/protecting_proxmox_ve_vms_with_commvault.html NFS and ceph are output same error to /var/log/commvault/Log_Files/vsbkp.log , “ Failed to open device [/dev/nbd??]” proxmox snapshot ware created, but commvault could not detected snapshot. Readiness check fails even though cvping from CS to client is working using 8400, 8403 and 8600 in both direction.

cvfwd.log from CS displays below message. ERROR: Client connection to ed*wb**** failed on ***t00*: Can't unambiguously route connection to ed*wb**** because there are multiple tunnels from different instances of CVFWD pretending to be ed*wb**** I have uninstalled the CV client and reinstalled but still no go. Not sure what else to check. Why system thinks that there are multiple tunnels? CS and MA running on Windows, and client is running on Linux.

Capacity Consumption for OnePass Backup

Hi team, how much backup storage capacity will be consumed when using OnePass backup of VMware VM? Assuming we have one VMware VM (100 GB used inclusive 30 GB MS SQL DB). When we do a VM backup with DB agent, do we backup 100 GB (onepass) only? or we backup 100 GB (VM level) + 30 GB (DB agent)? It means backup storage will consume 100 GB + extra capacity from DB backup. Which one is correct? Thank you.

plan rules are not working for database agents

Hi together, due to the necessary transition from Storage-Policy/Schedule-Policy to Plans, we are looking for a method to do bulk changes to the configuration (400x HANA, 500x Oracle, 100x Postgres ...). When we are using plan rules this seems to work, but in fact it does not. The plan rule is changing only the assignment for the subclient and not for the database instance. Example: Plan rule for Postgres should assign a derived plan The subclient is changed to the Derived Plan, the instance is not (completely) changed; here you find the Base-Plan that is “mentioned (sorry for this term, but configured would not be appropriate)” and the instance is listed as “not ready”. Qcommands (and therefore workflow) seem to have no interface to assign plans. So my question: How can I do a bulk change for database agents and assign a derived plan to the Subclient and the database instance? Thank you. Michael
