Differences in license consumption status alert between consoles

Hello Commvault Community, I would like to ask you how to change the condition in the license consumption monitoring alert so that it indicates the current consumption according to Command Center. Some time ago I came across the information that the calculation of license consumption in CommCell Console isn’t perfect and we should monitor and suggest the information presented in License Summary Report from CommandCenter (after use Recalculate button).  Today this has been proven and confirmed - in one of the environments running on SP32 version we noticed that for many months in CommCell Console the system didn’t inform about excess use of VOI licenses, after checking this in CommandCenter it turned out that licenses have been used for a long time above 100% license consumption, where in CommCell Console the alerts gave information that the consumption is at 80-90% of available licenses.  It seems that despite many updates to the Commvault environment version, the alerts still refer to

Permission Issues with Admin User in Commvault - I am admin user but I need authorize to delete

Hello Commvault Community,I recently installed Commvault in a test environment and am encountering an issue with administrative tasks.I currently have only one profile available, which is the default admin account, and I do not have any other accounts. However, when attempting to delete clients, libraries, or storage policies, I receive a message stating that the request has been sent via email and will be processed once approved.I have verified that my admin user account is configured as an administrator and has the appropriate roles and privileges. I would appreciate any guidance or solutions you could provide to help resolve this issue.Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Donwnload agent for SQL Server

Hello,I like to backup MSSQL server transaction logs within a server backup plan.  I assume that I need to install an agent for that on the VM hosting the MSSQL server. Thus running this transaction logs backup manually give s me the error: “Failed to start backups as no eligible subclients were found.”.Where can I download this agen?Thanks,Chris

Backup for Disaster Recovery Active Directory Forest with 6 sub-domains

We have an Active Directory Forest with 6 sub-domains. What are the best practices for backing up this configuration?Backup of AD objects only is not suitable. Backup is needed in case of complete loss of the entire AD server.Would it be better to back up the entire virtual machine with AD or is it better to back up individual elements.

Backup media library high availability using Commvault and GCP multi-region GCP storage buckets

As a part of the architecting media library for GCP cloud to ensure redundancy, availability across regions, low latency, and cost optimization have selected GCP cloud storage multi region nearline buckets.Considerations:In GCP there are 4 types of storage class and differentiated in terms of cost of storage, location, retrieval, and operations, you can choose best as per your requirement for retention data.For high availability of storage, GCP provides multi-regional buckets in which objects are geo-redundant stored redundantly in at least two separate geographic places separated by at least 100 miles. As multiregional storage is geo redundant no need to setup secondary copy for high availability purpose this will also save the storage cost. 11.28.122 is what CU Version for download.

We are getting ready to do our Yearly DR test.  Our current version is 11.28.122.  I have the option to download the full Commvault Platform Release 2022E - Commvault Media kit or Commvault Platform Release 2022E - Commvault Media kit (11SP28CU48). I am guessing the CU48 just has more of the updates that have been released.  The problem is I am not sure how high it goes.  I don’t know if I should just go with the full base model and let it update itself or go with CU.  Since the installs take so long I don't want to waste time.  Thoughts?

Agent for Windows VM's

Hey all - We have a number of Windows Hyper-V VMs we were backing up as a standard VM (when advanced VM licenses still existed).  Now, my understanding is that there is no difference and essentially all are the advanced capability, with the requirement being that you would install an agent to get the more advanced level of backup.  I’ve tried to look this up but wasn’t sure I was using the right technology - what agent is it that I need to install, and how to I confirm once it is installed that it’s working correctly.Also, obviously this would be best for db backups and such, but if the availability is there for all VM’s is there a reason to not put the agent on all of them?

files still on source after archive with "delete after archive" selected

hi all, i created an archive set on a new client, content is on an azure file share, we want to delete the files after archive so selected this option on the subclient properties but the files are still there after the archive job runs. any ideas?

Exchange DAG Backup deconfigured and deleted backup data from disk library

Hi all,A few days ago, we were asked to deconfigure the backups of an Exchange 2010 DAG database. Additionally, we deleted all content from the primary backup, as we were told it wouldn’t be necessary to retain that data any longer.Today, the team has been asked to restore the data we deleted a few days ago (Murphy’s Law, you know). The thing is, since we deleted all content from the primary copy, we only have the data on some LTO7 tapes that haven’t been rewritten or formatted.Is there anything we can do to try to retrieve and restore that data from the LTO tapes?Thanks!

DB instance failing to backup

Hi  DB type- SQLI have a DB server, and I am trying to take a DB aware backup.For one of its DB i received an error as below.Error encountered during backup. Error Code: [9001 - Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ExecutionFailureException:The log for database 'Engage' is not available. Check the event log for related error messages. Resolve any errors and restart the database. A nonrecoverable I/O error occurred on file "ebd391bc-0029-4c57-88ee-c1ca5bc08102:" 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.). Tapes wont age / Fragmentation

Hi Community, I took over a Commvault Simpana system and recognized, that tapes wont age.The reason is, that on affected tapes full, differencial and aswell daily, monthly and yearly backups are freely mixed.At the end I have for instance tapes, which have 99% of aged daily backups, and one 30mb in size backup which is aged earliest in 3 years. So this prevents the system from reuse the nearly free tape. By now I identify these tapes and copy the content on a new media, to get the data consolidated and the old tapes free.I would like to have tape pools for daily, monthly and yearly backups, and maybe aswell for full and differencial backups.Whats the best practice here? From what I see here is, that the consultant the company had on site 10 years ago was going the easy way. GreetingsUlrich
