Commvault Q&A, release updates, and best practices
Hello community, I would like to ask you for an advice. Lately I`ve found the failure when I did check readiness on media agent (windows 2016, CV version 2022E/11.28.56). Error:Communication failure between MediaAgent 172.xx.xx.23 and the client “mediaagent1”. Error returned is:Services on destination are down. Communication failure between MediaAgent 172.xx.xx.23 and the DDB MediaAgent “mediaagent1” Error returned is: Error returned is:Services on destination are down. When I checked services on both media agents, all are up and running. both are in same vlan, so no FW is in place. Both servers were rebooted in last days. DDBs on both MA`s are either online.if it is a normal FS client, I would push “repair software” option on the media agent. Thanks a lot for any advice.
Hello,I just updated one commcell to 2023E from 2022E.Release notes states that some reports was deprediated in release 2023, like Audit Trail report. There is a link to a support document, stating that to get any information a user needs to be a meber of, 1. master 2. Have commcell associated. My account is member of master but I have no idea on how to do the other association. Can anyone shed some light? as it is now the report comes up empty. Here is the form activity. Now here is the logs…SetActivityInputs: starting activity with inputs [<inputs><request><method>POST</method><postType>Form</postType><postContent /><postContentType>application/json; charset=UTF-8</postContentType><headers><name>Accept</name><value>application/json</value></headers><headers><name>Authorization</name><value /></headers></request></inputs>]As you can see the value for authorization is empty. The variable is set, but no matter what I do it refuses to honor it.
Hi all. After upgrading to 11.32.13 we are sporadically starting to see the below error when doing Vmware snapshot backup. The backup job fails or completes with errors: “Snapshot creation is disabled on [Server name] by .” Snapshot creation is not disabled for the server, and when backup is re-run everything is working. Have anyone else seen this behavior? Regards-Anders
I have a customer with a deprecated Commvault environment that’s on V11 SP10. They no longer use the environment and want to recover Mailbox Classic Data.I’m seeing a strange issue, where I cannot recover multiple mail messages (and by default entire mailboxes) if there are attachments in the mail. If I recover messages with no attachment, then I can recover them into a PST file. The error I see is:Looking at the logs, the restore job is trying to reference a DDB ID that isn’t available under Storage Resources. I suspect it may have been deleted at some point (the system has been inactive for a few years). The active DDB’s are all online and accessible. My understanding is that a DDB isn’t required for a recovery operation, but it seems to be causing issues with mails that contain attachments. I configured the MA (which also hosts the DDB’s) to be the target for the PST recovery to avoid any impact on their Production environment and new backup solution, so recoveries are ‘local’. Is the
Full scale test instance of Commvault before deploying into production. Getting issues with viewing the contents of Hypervisor VM Groups, changing configuration of VM groups and some items using “view details” on the health report.“Default” Hypervisor VM Groups were created upon adding the hypervisors and the content left at the default / or all unprotected VM’s. Immediately upon creating the groups it is not possible to view the content tab without getting the detail flash very quickly on screen before displaying “something went wrong”. Also cannot change anything in the options section of the VM Group configuration page without “something went wrong”. I have deployed several instances of Commvault for test and this has happened on all instances. I have tried running the install again in repair mode and it does not resolve the issue. Note it is possible to view the content by looking at protected and unprotected VM’s but cant’ modify content from that page. Also issues with the “view
What this does is a discovery on a hypervisor sub client and creates a vm pseudo client for any discovered virtual machines. The functionality is outlined here:https://documentation.commvault.com/11.26/expert/104558_creating_vm_clients_before_performing_backup_operations.html In practice it looks like this. Thanks!Chris
I’m trying to prevent updates from being installed on a specific client. It is an older client that needs to stay on v9 because the iDA is no longer supported.I am following the suggestion posted here:Is there any way to prevent updates and upgrades from being pushed to a client? | Community (commvault.com)I created the Additional Setting at the client level to test, and then kicked off an Update Software job. The job ran and it didn’t seem to honor this setting as it showed “Update In Progress” and eventually failed out due to another issue on the box.Can we verify that this should work on v11.24.69, and that the key is correct [bSkipUpdate]? I also attempted to use the Excluded Machines list from Software Configuration but that didn’t seem to work either (it says on that screen that the list only applies to automatically discovered machines, so I assume this was originally used for install software jobs where there were automatic discovery rules). Also wondering which log I would s
Hi there,I just have a question about the Unusual file activity. When I go there I can see the graph and the graph also shows the Deleted Files including how many filers were deleted and the date they got deleted. So, Is it possible to see the details for that? Or generate a report for that? Thank you.
HiDoes anyone know if there are any restrictions in the workflow engine regarding the use of temporary tables in the CommservDBQuery activity? In the SSMS the query works fine. When I run the above SQL query in the debug mode, I don’t get any output: I also tried to use a table as variable, which did not work either. The workflow engine runs on a dedicated server. Could this cause the issue? Thanks for your inputsMichael
Hi,We are currently running Commvault in a VM 11.20.168 on Windows Server 2019, and also using a FREL.As the title states, I would like to upgrade the Commvault release from 11.20.168 to the latest version 11.32, and also the Windows Server version. We have 4 instances that I maintain, and it is a closed network (I have to download the update files and transfer them over). This VM was previously running Windows Server 2012R2 but I upgraded our instances to Windows 2019. I could just do an in place upgrade again to 2022, but maybe it is best to make a new VMs. Please share your thoughts and recommendations.

Hi All,I have deployed Storage Accelerator on a Linux host but it does not seem to be working as the cloud team states that data transfer is still occurring cross-account.My setup is as follow:Client - Account 1S3 Bucket Account 1Media Agent (DDB) - Account 2The Storage Pool is created with DDB enabled on the Media Agent in Account 2. The idea is to have the client writing to the S3 bucket in the same account. The Media Agent can access the bucket across the account as backups are completing. I tested uploading a file from the client to the S3 bucket by using "aws cli s3 upload" command which completed successfully.I also added the ARN credential on the cloud library for Storage Accelerator. Is the format of this correct?arn:aws:iam::123456789012:role/customer-mc-ec2-instance-profile-s3 In what log can I see the success or failure of Storage Accelerator usage?I have reviewed the below posts but did not really find anything specific.https://community.commvault.com/storage-and-deduplicati
