I was teaching a CV Engineer trainingsome time ago, using a lab setup for demos that I upgraded from 11.32 to 11.40. I created a disk storage pool to demo things. When I started to configure dedupe, I only got the possibility to choose the MA for the DDB, not the location (vloume / folder), so the DDB ended on the C: drive. Is this because the upgrade went wrong, or is this by design? If it's by design, why???

I have a customer running 11.40 and Commvault now has the combo tiers for cloud storage configured by default. My question resides in which tier the bucket should be created. The customer had previously created a bucket in AWS (this may come into play later) that was used to create a Cloud Library in Commvault using the AWS Glacier Deep Archive tier. When examining the data in the bucket, we can see the CHUNK data is written to Glacier Deep Archive however, the index metadata is showing under Glacier Instant Retrieval. This seems wrong to me.I have read that Commvault will apply an Amazon storage class header to every upload API call and then writes the data to the bucket, which is part of what is allowing the CHUNK data to be written to one tier with the index metadata to another tier. I’m starting to believe that the storage class header only is being applied to the CHUNK data and the metadata is using whichever storage tier the AWS S3 bucket was created with. I am currently questioning our AuxCopy to tape performance and want to get some input on how to identify the bottleneck.We have multiple plans which all have two copies to tape. One is synchronous and one is selective.Each of the two is consolidated onto another Global Secondary Copy Policy.The storage target are six LTO9 drives with a mixed LTO8 and LTO9 media inventory.The source for the copy is a NetApp StorageGRID S3 backed storage pool with deduplication connected on a 100G fiber network.We have two Media Agents which are both connected to all LTO drives and the NetApp (same VLAN).Looking at the reported speed of the drives in Commvault I get around 130MB/s all of the time.I could confirm this looking at SFP speeds on the FC switch which also stay around this value with rare peaks to around 200MB/s.What I tested already to look for the bottleneck:- only run one AuxCopy Job- run AuxCopy when no other jobs where running- validate drive > 300MB/s throughput with LTO8 media- differ

Hi guys,If I want to achieve the best dedup efficiancy, I have to set the Max Open Files in the Commvault subclient(s) of an Oracle Instance to 1.Otherwise, RMAN will multiplex the number of files allowed into one channel / stream, which leads to poor dedupe ratio for the backups of this databases.Is there an option to influence the parameter of default subclient during instance creation when a new instance is discovered ?Setting the amount of streams and restricting the MaxOpenFiles might be beneficial when adding larger amount of Instances to the environment and where disk or cloud is the primary backup destination.rgdsKlaus

Hi,I keep seeing an irritating warning during Hyper V backup. One host in the Hyper V setup has been de-configured and the SW uninstalled, and the node has been removed from the list in the Hyper V Instance. Also, it does not show up in the preview for the vmgroups. Even so, the warning (Could not establish connection host [.], results may be incomplete) appears immediately when the backup runs. How can I get rid of this host? Please assist.

We are planning an upgrade from 11.32 to 11.36. With the deprecation of the web console, does this mean that the legacy Compliance Search (not the CommandCenter version), will disappear? We have users still using that, and don’t see many benefits to the CommandCenter version.

Hi folks,A few questions for you.We have HPE Apollo 420 Gen10 nodes and one of them is reporting a fan failure in its iLO.This has been confirmed by the vendor and we are replacing it soon. In meantime I have checked the HyperScale Health Report and is reporting all fans OK across all nodes.Why is that?How Commvault is providing data to the HyperScale Health Report?If this is not a reliable data, why to bother showing this in the report?

How to produce a Restore report specifically source media is TAPE?  Please note that the SP has the Disk primary and Tape secondary.  Attempted to produce one but unfortunately 'source' media is always disk. 

Hi,what is the best way to allow a user, that created a credential vault, to add further user or groups to this new created vault ?the user is per default, not allowed to change the security settings of his own vault entry.the vault should be made available to other user after it has been created ba a restricted user.the only option I found to achieve this, is to grant the global → change security settings permission on the commcell level.But this will allow the user to change other objects permissions as well, what is not desired.(CommCell is running with CV11.40)rgdsKlaus 

We are exploring the option to upgrade our Commvault environment from 11.36 to v11.44We are running a Windows Commservers and Windows Remote private metrics reporting servers and also Windows Media Agent.Currently, majority if not 90% of our Backup configuration are setup in the CommCell console.I understand there is a push to move to Command Center based approachI would like to seek advice on the gotchas of moving to 11.44 version of Commvault given the setup that we have in place.

Hello,We are currently running backup on Commvault (FR42) for MongoDB Atlas protection with an enterprise customer. Our understanding iis that Commvault orchestrates native Atlas cluster snapshots through the Atlas REST APIs, with no backup copy possible — the data never leaves the Atlas/AWS perimeter and cannot be materialized on a Commvault Cloud Lib...However, MongoDB Atlas natively supports exporting Cloud Backup snapshots to a customer-owned object store (S3, Azure Blob, GCS) via the Atlas Admin API, including S3 Object Lock immutability and PrivateLink transfer. Since Commvault already integrates with this API for snapshot orchestration, we would like to understand:Is there a technical or product reason why Commvault does not leverage the Atlas snapshot export API to provide a true secondary copy (backup copy / air-gapped copy) of Atlas data under Commvault management? Is such an integration on the roadmap for an upcoming Feature Release? If not, what is the recommended Commvault

Hi everyone,I am looking for advice in associating VM's on a shared vCenter to different companies. We have a big MSP vCenter where a lot of our customers have their VM environment that we protect with Commvault.We currently use server groups that are associated to VM folders on the vCenter. The server group is associated to a company so the VM's are automatically associated to a company. This feels a bit of a workaround but it is working at the moment.I also saw thread Assignment of VM's to Companies which explains this solution with VM tags which is almost the same solution.As the referenced thread is 3 years old, is there a better way to do this? We tried adding the same vCenter multiple times to create different selections for companies but this does not work.Kind regards,Paul G

We use VMWARE and use lots of SQL AGS.  We backup the SQL databases at the AG level however I am wondering what would be the best way to recover incase of a cyber event.   The plan I have is to take an initial snapshot all the VMs after installing SQL server on a VM and then use SQL and MSDB databases backups; and every time a server is patched take a full file system backup of the OS and location where system databases are stored.  SQL Agent would continue to protect the user databases  When a system fails completely > Restore from initial VM level backup  >  Restore file and folders via the agent based backups > Restore the databases via the DB backups Any other ideas...  SQL team dont want vms to be snapped regularly

Hello,Notes Database 9.0.x (IBM Domino 9.0.x Social Edition 64 bit) is not in list of supported versions for 11.36. and 11.40 agent versions (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.40/commcell-console/notes_database_system_requirements.html).Last it was mentioned as supported at least in 11.24. Hi all. I need help or inspiration. Scenario is as follows:I have a Windows Vmware server with SQL with the databases and system databases spread out on different disks/mountpoints. I do a Vmware snapshot backup of the system drive (C:\) and filter out the data disks (all other drives) I do a SQL backup via agent I need to do a Disaster recovery test restore of the server, which means, restore the server so that it is working again. I do the following to restore the server:Restore the Vmware server (Only C:\ drive is available) Adds new disks/mountpoints in vmwareNow I have a server with the restored SQL installation and the empty drives. Only problem is that the SQL server is deprecated. When trying to do a SQL system database restore from Commvault, I would get the message, that the SQL server is not running, which is correct, as it cannot start without the system databases.    Then as I understands it I have two options:Rebuild the master database: https://documentation.commvault.co

Dear Community,Perhaps anyone can answer me the following question. My customer use storage accelerator (SA)  for backups and Aux copies to cloud. Now he asked:How can I easy see that SA was used or not?We are at 11.36.55. First, I asked Arlie but answer seems only partly correct. I am still at the beginning to check all points Arlie told me. Java GUI is not useful in this case. It shows allegedly only results if SA is used. To make a clear statement, I always must check the log file.In the command center, I must differentiate between backup jobs and Aux copy jobs.Backup jobs indeed have a line: storage accelerator yes/no which is the expected behavior.According to Arlie, there should also be a line for Aux copy jobs that clearly indicates the use of SA.I am not able to find. Can you help?My customer needs a clear indication on user level that shows if an aux copy uses the SA or not.We currently analyze logs or the network traffic to get clear results which is not useful. Thanks in adv

The first response is always very confident, but when I ask for documentation, links, or other supporting information, it backs down and ultimately tells me to contact Commvault Support or my Commvault account representative.And Commvault Support has become pretty good at simply forwarding Arlie's answers, so I think the quickest way to get a real answer is to ask here.We need to backup Atlassian Jira. I see Commvault SaaS has a solution for this.But what if I want to back it up on-premisses. Is this possible?Arlie says no problem, simular as Saas, but cannot provide me more info than that.So, my question, can we? And if so, can I find this information and configuation guide online?
