Hi everyone,We are currently facing a Commvault backup issue on Nutanix AHV.The initial problem was related to HotAdd / SCSI device detection on the Commvault Access Node. To fix that first issue, we had to add the following additional setting on the Access Node:VirtualServer\bEnableSCSIWLunDeviceCleaner = TrueAfter enabling EnableSCSIWLunDeviceCleaner, the initial HotAdd issue was resolved.The logs now confirm that the disk is correctly attached and opened:Disk [SCSI.0] is attached at [/dev/sdb]Opened [/dev/sdb] successfullyHowever, we are now facing a different issue when Commvault calls the Nutanix Data Protection APIs.The compute-changed-regions call returns:HTTP 401Invalid cookies present in the requestCommvault then reports:JWT Token has likely expired. We want to migrate jobs from one S3 cloud library to another S3 library without DDB, avoiding the use of auxiliary copies or data path moves. We aim to use an internal bucket-to-bucket copying mechanism to avoid standard data egress and ingress—thereby reducing egress costs, even though the transfer itself will still incur a charge. Once the data has been copied, we will import the metadata to ensure the backup chain remains consistent for future restores.

Hi everyone,Our CommServe is a VMware VM with 32 GB RAM, but lately memory utilization is consistently around 90% as the environment grows. We have multiple VMware, Azure, AWS, OCI, LiveSync and Microsoft 365 environments, although the total number of VMs is not particularly high.SQL Server Maximum Server Memory is already configured at ~16 GB, so SQL is not consuming all available memory.  Would it be necessary to increase the CommServe all the way to 64 GB RAM, or would a lower intermediate value be sufficient to provide additional headroom?Since it is a VMware VM, we can increase RAM independently without necessarily increasing vCPU. CPU utilization is currently not a concern.What would you consider the best approach in this situation?Best regards,Nikos

Hello all!In our environment, we have created a temporary copies within our few storage policies - (call them copy 6 and 7). Those were tape copies. We have keep some backup there for 2 months, but it is no longed needed. We do not need those copies within those storage policies any more. But for now, even if they are no longer any backup retained on this 6-7 copy, we do have a lot of “Big Data Apps” jobs retained on those copies.We would like to delete those copies because it interferes with our “workflow” which picks jobs for copies and it's keeping to mark them to copy for 6-7 copy. (even if copy is disabled) So my question is - what exactly this Big Data Apps is? It is some kind of Index, am I correct? If those “Big Data Apps” are stored on copies 6-7 are there any dependencies for other copies, other jobs keep in other/same storage policies?Can we just delete copy 6-7 from our storage policies even if they are still those Big Data Apps stored on it, and it won't affect the rest of

How can Commvault be configured to write backups to tape media? (Note: I have already added the tape and can see the drives and media; I have two drives and three tapes, as well as two backup plans. However, while one plan always succeeds, the second consistently results in errors [32:690] and [32:193].) 

Hi guys,I’m currently evaluating / planning the migration from a Windows CommServe to a Linux CommServe.We are using a Fujitsu ETERNUS CS8000 virtual tape library with VJUK (generic SCSI library) emulation as Tape backend.The Workflow (Prefetch Tapes for Restore) provided by Commvault to prefetch media, that have been migrated from cache, is no longer working on Linux CommServe.The Command ManualPrefetchTapes.exe, that is called by the workflow on Windows, cannot be found in the Linux distribution.Can someone tell me where to get it ?Or is there a newer version of the prefetch workflow available, that does no longer use the external command to initiate the prefetch ?Currently running on V11.40.59BRKlaus

Hello,I have an issue with displaying some informations in command center.Some data like Commserve Name, Version oraz data about top 5 largest servers on dashboard displays xxxx instead of the real values.Do you guys have an idea what can be wrong here?Temporarly I have two commserve’s in live sync - old one on Windows and new one on Linux. The issue is present only when active commserve is a linux one (new one). I planned to reinstall this windows also and make both commserve’s on linux, but i’m not sure if this is a good idea doing it and having this issue.Thanks in advance for help.Regards,Mateusz

Hi Commvault experts! Two things I'd like to have confirmed: Firstly, am I right that laptop backup plan is basically incremental forever? As far as I understand it, the client only ever sends changes and full backups are created as synthetic fulls on the storage side, so the endpoint never uploads a full backup overthe network. Is that correct? Secondly, I'm not clear on how retention works once a secondary copy is added. In the laptop plan you set deleted item retention and file versions, but the storage policy behind the plan has its own copies with their own retention settings. So which one actually applies - does the plan drive retention for both copies, or does the plan only cover the primary copy while the secondary copy is governed by the storage policy copy settings?Related: is the auxiliary copy schedule independent of the plan's RPO, or is it tied to it in some way?Thanks!

So I started the Commvault Cloud Practitioner learning plan, and now I am on ‘Security and Compliance’ module.I don’t know if it’s related, but my issue did begin after I tried to watch the course on my mobile phone. I completed the ‘Securing Access: Control, Verification and Approval’ and ‘Protecting your data: Encryption, WORM and Audit Trail’, but their status remains ‘In Progress’. What can I do to resolve this?

Hi there!In the retention settings for laptop plans you can set how long deleted items are kept, but what if there is a specific file that needs to be removed from the backups completely, so the retention rule doesn't apply to it at all?The use case could be a GDPR "right to be forgotten" request - the file is deleted from the laptop, but it also has to disappear from the backups.I found references to Erase Data by Browsing, but the documentation I came across is old and describes the CommCell Console. Is this available for laptop clients/plans, and where would I find it in Command Center? Does it need a separate license?Cheers!

I have a few questions regarding the documentation for testing IOPS for both the DDB disk (https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/commcell-console/testing_iops_of_deduplication_database_disk_on_windows.html) and the Disk Library (https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/commcell-console/testing_iops_for_disk_library_mount_path_with_iometer.html)The documentation states to run the IOMeter test “on the complete raw disk”, and “IOMeter allows allows physical disks to be selected only when there are no volumes on the disk”. Does this mean that the disk should not be formatted before running the IOMeter test? For the Disk Library, I am mounting a LUN from a SAN to the MediaAgent that is about 48 TB. What is the best way to test IOPS for this? I am guessing I will need to set the Maximum Disk Size, otherwise creating that huge iobw.tst file would take ages. Hi!As Server 2016 will go out of support anyways within the next year, I consider proceeding the upgrade before, as 2019+ support larger cluster sizes than 64 kb which should drastrically improve file system defragmentation and by that HDD performance.The “wasted” should be less of a deal, as Commvault saves data in big chunks of 1+ GB anyways. I assume that Commvault does not have trouble with the cluster size (the storage part in documentation is generally pretty “thin” regarding file systems, best practices etc.).Sidenode: You should definitely add, that partitions/drives above 64 (actually more 63.5) TiB can’t be snapshotted with VSS, nor can chkdsk do anything on those. But the main question: Is there any problems to in-place upgrade Windows Server 2016 to 2025?It would be big pain to migrate all that data (we have one machine running all services/functions) to a new (pricy!) server as long as the hardware is still supported/maintained. I’ve read and old thread that recommended do

Hi there!In a laptop plan I need to back up a specific folder that sits directly in the user profile, for example:C:\Users\<username>\ProjectsThe machines can have more than one user profile, and I want the folder backed up for each of them.I noticed the default content uses tokens like \%Desktop% and \%Documents%, so there is clearly a mechanism for resolving the user profile path. But those look like predefined tokens for known folders and I couldn't find one that would let me append my own subfolder, something like \%UserProfile%\Projects.Is there a token for this, or is a wildcard path like C:\Users\*\Projects the way to go? Or does the plan content have to be defined differently for this kind of case?Thank you in advance for your contributions!

Hi everyone,I’m looking for a tool or report that can perform a more comprehensive assessment of an existing CommCell environment.I’m already familiar with the Health Report, Security Assessment and Configuration Reports, but I’m looking for something more comprehensive that can assess the overall configuration and best practices of the environment in one place.For example, I’d like to assess things such as encryption configuration, Live Sync, security settings, storage and deduplication configuration, DR readiness, backup configuration, potential configuration issues, etc., and ideally get recommendations or findings for areas that should be reviewed or improved.Is there any Commvault tool, report, workflow or Store application that provides this kind of comprehensive CommCell assessment?Something similar in concept to VMware’s Health Analyzer would be exactly what I’m looking for. Any recommendations would be appreciated!Best regards,Nikos

Hi Commvault experts, we are setting up laptop (desktop/endpoint) backup for a customer. Users should be able to restore their own files, so I'm leaving the plan name out of the package to get the automatic owner assignment - is it right? Firstly, which way do you actually use to build the package - the Package Creator on Cloud Services website, or a custom package from the installation media? Package Creator wants an account and internet access and not every customer has that, so I'd rather do it locally, but I don't know if that's what people normally do. Secondly, in the Custom Package Options the laptop stuff (Launch Edge Monitor, Perform Registration using Authcode) only shows up if I tick "Create a de-coupled installation package". But the docs say de-coupled means the client doesn't register during install and has to be registered later, which sounds like the opposite of what I want. So is ticking de-coupled actually the correct way to build a laptop package using installation i

We have a large MongoDB Production sharded cluster of approximately 70–80 TB, consisting of around 120 nodes running Rocky Linux 8.10. Could you please check  and confirm whether Commvault supports backup and recovery for a MongoDB cluster of this scale? We would also appreciate any information on known scalability limitations or recommended sizing guidelines.Also , whether normal Mongo Snap Backup or Percona would be useful in this case ?

Hello,We are planning an operating system upgrade for a physical Commvault All-in-One server and would like to hear from anyone who has completed a similar upgrade.Current configuration:Physical Cisco UCS C240 M5 server Windows Server 2016 Standard Commvault 11.40.67 Non-clustered CommServe The same server hosts the CommServe, MediaAgent, Web Server/Command Center and Workflow Engine components Local DDBs and disk-library mount paths are also hosted on this server The customer does not want to split the CommServe and MediaAgent roles or migrate them to new hardwareThe planned target is an in-place upgrade directly from Windows Server 2016 to Windows Server 2025.Microsoft supports the direct upgrade path for a non-clustered server, and Commvault 11.40 supports Windows Server 2025.
