Hi all,One of my students asked me if SQL Analytics databases can be backed up as a subclient for Microsoft SQL server. I saw that it is possible in Azure SQL but I couldn't find anything in the “normal” SQL server. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance!

Hi Vaulters, In order to implement a Vault site which will contain one MediaAgent in it, we wanted to restrict the communication of this MediaAgent to only the CS + MAs in Prod site and make connection only be established through the Vault site. To make things even securised, we wanted to use a dedicated port for the Vault MA unstead of the defaults 8400/8403. Seems this can be achived through One-Way network topology while setting : Vault MA → Prod CS/MAs.But not sure about the customized port to be used, as from OS/Network perspective only the custom port will be allowed between the Vault MA and Prod CS/MAs. Should the custom port be set in the below screenshot during topology creation or set as an additional setting in the Vault MA (nCVDPORT) or both ? How to let CV know that the communication will only be established by the Vault MA and use a defined port ?  This is a bit confusing.Thanks in advance.

Good morning,We are experiencing an issue with our Commvault environment related to copying data to tape, and I am hoping someone can help explain the behavior or suggest a fix.Currently, our Commvault system is configured to take weekly FULL backups of all file shares and VMs every Thursday. Once these full backups complete, they automatically copy to tape. This process itself works as expected.The problem is the volume of data being written to tape.Each week, I have to manually update the Copy Policy “From Date” to the Monday of the current week to ensure that only the most recent data is copied. If I forget to do this, the amount of data copied to tape increases significantly.For example:January 2026 Week 1: I set the copy date to Monday 5th January. On Thursday, approximately 100 TB is written to tape (usually completing by the following Wednesday). Week 2: I forget to update the date. On Thursday, it again attempts to copy around 100 TB. Hi,I am encountering an issue with VSA backups on a Nutanix AHV cluster.The Scenario: I ran a manual Full Backup for a specific VM. The job status is "Completed". Immediately after the job finished, I tried to browse and restore a vDisk (scsi-1). The file appears in the index, but when clicking restore, I get the error: "Cannot Restore since there is no data available" The Anomaly: Restoring the same VM from the scheduled nightly backup works perfectly. The issue seems specific to this fresh manual job.Environment: Commvault VSA for Nutanix AHV. Disks are standard vDisks (not Volume Groups / iSCSI Guest). Proxy has full access to the container (verified by the successful nightly restore). Question: Is there a known Indexing Commit latency specifically for AHV that prevents immediate restores right after job completion? Or is this likely a CRT/Snapshot lookup failure on the Nutanix CVM side during the manual run?Thanks.

Hi all. How would the procedure be, to do a Linux OS refresh from Rocky Linux to RHEL? The servers have local OS, ddb and index disks, and the MA’s have block storage mounted disks for the library.The hardware need to be reused, so I just want to reinstall OS, but keep DDB, index, library data, server name and IP, so that the server can continue operations after the Linux OS refresh.. Any suggestions on how to do this and any recommendations appreciated. Regards-Anders

We are retiring a VMware DC and the admins are moving the VMs from the original vCenter to a completely different vCenter. I believe they are cloning them but not 100% sure. Anyway, we have been removing the VM from it’s original user defined subclient in vCenter X and adding it to a new subclient in vCenter Y. The VM name and vc.uuid has not changed. I noticed when we do this we now show two defaultBackupSet’s under the clients VMInstance - defaultBackupSet and defaultBackupSet_Vir-NewOne. After 7 days, we start getting alerts that the VM hasn’t been backed up in 7 days under the old VC and subclient. Trying to understand why CV is doing this and if this is fine or should we be moving these differently? And why, if the VM no longer is in the old subclient would CV thinks it should still be getting backed up thru it. Thanks.

Hello Fello Commvaulters I hav the task of moving our current Index Cache and DDB database dat from their current drives I & D respectively to two new drives on the SAME media agent?  I can see a workflow which Ive used many times to move the data between the old media agent and the new one.  This is movement from within the same box. I dont see a WF in how to do this.  Anyone any ideas?  Also worth pointing out the “Index Server” tab on my media agent is greyed out.  

Hi All, i´m looking for an prcess list for the rocky linux vsa template. We are using trendmicro as av vendor and we cant exclude an path for the processes so we need to exclude the processes manually. I did not find any list and ariel also not :)  Do you have an idear ?

HiI have a problem with a Commvault LiveSync setup running with Rocky linux ver. 8.When I am doing a test failover all is looking good. But when I am trying to do a maintaince failover, the maintaince failover fails.It is faillling under the recovery process on the standby node with the error saying “Failed to generate new CS client certificate”.  I have been trying to stop the selinux and firewall on both CS, and still are getting this error. Does any have a idea on what is the problem?

Hi All, there was an option in the cloud.comvmault.com webconsole portal to use the staging feature. The DR Backup was uploaded and than an cs with restored db was created. An link with login credentials was provided. Now over the command center i dont see this option any more. Is it gone ? thanks for help

Hello communityI am having an issue with getting the compliance lock unlocked on all secondary copies of my storage policies.  i have completed the following Filled in the form under resources on the website to get compliance lock lifted, using Commcell ID, Primary Copy name and ID, secondary copy name and ID and also passphrase which is correct. killed all logins using Qlogout.exe -all Logged back in using an account in the Masters Group ran the following the xml file provided by Commvault only has the IDs for the primary copy and the secondary copy.  It has no mention at all of the names of both the primary and the secondary

NetApp is currently selling the successor to the ASA (SAN Only), the ASAr2, at an attractive price. Basically, it is a system from the ONTAP family, like the FAS or AFF systems. Unfortunately, the API has changed considerably, and Commvault does not yet support the ASAr2 API. I’ve heard that integration is being worked on. Is there a timeline for this?We have a few projects where Commvault (new customer) and NetApp would be a good combination.

Hello All,After adding a data file to the MSSQL database, it's normal for log backup to convert to full backup. However, after converting log backup to full backup, the server experiences excessive CPU consumption, reaching 100%. Is this normal behavior, what is the reason, and how can we solve it?Meanwhile, we don't observe too much CPU increase when running a normal full backup.

Disaster Recovery Query – IDM Application Backup Tapes (December & November 2025)The IDM application is hosted in DC1 (Onsite). Monthly full backups are taken every last Sunday of the month. These backups are sent to DC2 (DR Site). In December 2025, the IDM application required 5 tapes for the full backup. Out of these, 3 tapes became full and were already moved to DC2. The remaining 2 tapes were not yet full and stayed onsite in DC1. A disaster has now wiped out all onsite data, including incrementals, disk backups, and the 2 onsite tapes. We need to know in how many possible ways the application can be recovered using the offsite tapes. If recovery from December 2025 is not possible due to missing tapes, we need confirmation whether all November 2025 backup tapes for IDM are available offsite. If November’s set is complete, recovery should proceed from that month instead.
