HSX OS upgrade from 7.9 to 8.9 with sp32

we are trying to do OS upgrade the HSX from the existing 7.9 to 8.9 to be able to add additional new nodes (HSX ISO 3.2312) we tried to upgrade the OS using the Command center and CLI both showing upgrade completes successfully however the OS version is still 7.9 i used the below reference for the OS upgrade operation. https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/expert/installing_operating_system_updates_on_hyperscale_x_reference_architecture.html

HyperScale X (Reference Architecture) not hardened by default?

Hi! We recently deployed 2 HyperScale X Reference Architecture clusters at a customer, and found out that: Ransomware Protection is not enabled by default Linux Firewall is not enabled by default In my opinion, in current times, it is strange that by default the solution is so insecure.Why are the firewall and ransomware protection not enabled by default? And will that be addressed in a future release?

Best practices for HSX SAN mapping

HiMapped ESX Datastores via FC to a HSX cluster - reason behind is using SAN Transport mode.Had to reboot the nodes as rescan-scsi-bus.sh didn’t work and couldn’t see the new devices.However, now that I see the disks, backups are not running properly with “failed to read disk over SAN transport” error.Any hints/tips on this? Couldn’t find much around as this is a storage related topic.Appreciate the help around.ThanksIvan

Root Access

hi guys, Could someone get me details on how to do the following (if possible) on HSX Ref Arch. On 11.32 I would like another cv admin to authorize enabling root controls. I have MFA enabled but would like this extra security for enabling root access.  Thanks

Rocky Linux release 8.9 End of Life

Hello Everybody, During a meeting with customer where two new HSX clusters were deployed they highlighted the fact that Rocky Linux release 8.9 was out of support.Rocky Linux Release and Version Guide - Rocky Linux Wiki  Do we have any plans in future to allow the update of this OS to a higher version or this is something customer should not be worried about?Thanks in advance

HyperScale X Hedvig OS update

Hi,I’m trying to update the OS for my Hyperscale X; however, in the documentation they stated that we should use KVM console instead of using SSH. I opened the KVM console on 1 of my nodes, and I can’t find the log in option. I wonder which button I need to press or which command I need to put there in order to log in?

HSX node replacement

Hi,I have a situation in one of my customers. Case 240503-407 .Here is the situation : the customer start with a 3 nodes HSX cluster with 24x16TB diskHe adds a fourth node, and because of a shortage of 16TB disk availability he goes with 20TB disk (also with 768GB of ram)Now if we look at the disks on an 16TB node we see :/dev/sdn                                   17T   13T  3.7T  78% /hedvig/d15/dev/sdc                                   17T   14T  3.4T  80% /hedvig/d4/dev/sde                                   17T   13T  3.7T  78% /hedvig/d6/dev/sdw                                   17T   13T  3.7T  78% /hedvig/d24/dev/sdd                                   17T   13T  3.8T  78% /hedvig/d5and if we look at the disks on a 20TB node we see :/dev/sdt                                   19T   14T  4.3T  77% /hedvig/d22/dev/sdx                                   19T   14T  4.5T  76% /hedvig/d26/dev/sde                                   19T   14T  4.4T  77% /hedvig/d7/dev/sdf

How to monitor progress of data recovery on a replacement drive

Hello fellow CommVault users,I run a three node HyperScale 1.5 media agent on HPE reference hardware and recently one of the drives failed. I’ve replaced the failed drive and have started the recovery process to rebuild the contents of the drive.Question: Is there a command that can be run to show the percent complete on the rebuild process?Thanks in advance for any information.Ken

HyperScale X override Commvault tunnel port

Hi all,My customer use a specific commvault tunnel port instead of default one. We have installed fresh HSX reference architecture in 11.32.We have noticed that by disabling firewall on HSX node, commvault firewall is working, rather than when it’s enabled, probably due to default rule allowing the default commvault tunnel port (8403)It’s referred on this link : https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/firewall_port_requirements_for_hyperscale_x_reference_architecture.htmlIs there any way to allow a rule in firewalld to override default commvault firewall tunnel port (8403) to a specific port currently used in my customer commvault environment ? Many ThanksVincent

Changing the IP Address For HyperScale MediaAgent Nodes

Hi,reading through the BOL and it looks straight forward. Only question is, I have a two nics in my Production & Storage bonds so do I edit below for Prod in enpsf5 as enpsf5 was added to the bond when creating./etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-enpsf3and the same for storage /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-enpsf4 & enpsf6 https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/changing_ip_address_for_hyperscale_mediaagent_nodes_01.html

HSX metadata disk RA question

Hello teamHave a question about HSX RA disks for Boot and MetadataFor boot i saw reccomendations Create a RAID1 volume, but for MetaData i didn’t see anything, jus 2 dedicated NVME\SSD disksI’m trying find some info see below for Cache (CVFS/Hedvig) as i understand we use EC 4+2, so for this disk we doesnt need a RAID1 - yes or no?for Logs (Index cache/DDB) can we used RAID for this disks or its just dedicated NVME\SSD?  and one more question whats happening if a metadata disks will go offlain or crushed in one or more nodes?

Node limit for Hyperscale X Nodes

Hello All,I am planning for the expansion of one of our Hyperscale X clusters on Dell Reference Architecture. I have 2 questions that I would love some input on.  -Node LimitOne of my contacts told me that there is a 12-node limit on storage pools (HCX clusters). Then after the 12th node is deployed, we should plan to make a new storage pool. I found that odd because my last contact told me that there was no limit on the number of nodes. The only limit I have heard of is the 5PB capacity that CommVault has tested internally.The no limit is documented here:Storage Pool Expansion and Capacity Planning For HyperScale X Appliance (commvault.com) The only mention of a 12 node limit I could find online is that we can only deploy 12 nodes at a time in the initial configuration. Remote software cache partially missing to upgarde os/hedvig

Hello everyone, I've to upgrade hedvig and os on hyperscale nodes.Checking the remote software cache path on HSX node, the CVAppliance folder was missing. So I've rerun download+sync of the all packages but CVAppliance folder still miss on the remote cache while on the Commserve cache folder is correctly populated.What have I to check? Thanks and regards

Create Report on Command Center

Hi,On the command center, I can only schedule frequency as Daily, Weekly or Monthly; what if I want to schedule the reports to run daily at 9 AM, but skip Sunday and Monday? I know on the Java console, I can select which days I want to send out the reports. I just wonder if I could do the same thing on the Command Center? Thank you.

Best way to move storage policy from existing HS 1.5 to new HS X.

We have just added some new Hyperscale X to our environment, and new disk libraries created.I want to move/ copy some jobs with extended retention rule to the newly created libraries. Please what is the best possible way to do this? Thank you in advance.

Has anyone noticed their LACP bonds are not balanced across the interfaces for hyperscale.

We’ve noticed that while using LACP mode 4  on our dell r740xd2 hyerperscales that the interfaces have unbalanced amount of traffic if you do IFCONFIG.  I have p1p2 bonded with p5p2 for the storage network.  P1p1 and p5p1 on the data traffic network.  Notice my rx packets and tx packets are very unbalanced.p1p1 tx packets are at 410Gib and its partner p5p1 is at 11TiB for example.   Does anyone see the same on their LACP config or solved this issue?  We see the same behavior on a dell 48 port switch and the cisco 9k using Cisco ACI.  Also on hyperscale 1.5 and hyperscale x deployments. p1p1: flags=6211<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SLAVE,MULTICAST>  mtu 1500        ether bc:97:e1:2c:9b:00  txqueuelen 1000  (Ethernet)        RX packets 11213468144  bytes 14318195329557 (13.0 TiB)        RX errors 0  dropped 0  overruns 0  frame 0        TX packets 1279302179  bytes 440269032106 (410.0 GiB)        TX errors 0  dropped 0 overruns 0  carrier 0  collisions 0p1p2: flags=6211<UP,BROADCAST,RUN

HSX with tradtional infrastructure.

Hello,we have a customer has commvault archiving solution, with traditional installation as below.1x cs vm in HQ site2x windows MA +index  in HQ 2x windows MA +index  in DR2x Webservers in HQ 2x Webservers in DR2x webconsole in HQ2x webconsole in DRnow customer bought  2x HSX Appliances 1x HQ, 1x DR what is the best practice to migrate the data and hardware?  im thinking of the belowdeploying the HSX with the existing CS vm  configure the HSX as MA and index nodes dash copy the data to the new HSX offload the old MAs +index  and keep the WSs and WCs as it is is this approach okay or there is a better approach? another question, if i’lll copy the data using dashcopy:will be any issue recalling/restoring the data after demoting the old MAs? will be any issue during outlook addin recalls? thanks

Cannot see "data protection" interface option during initial NW configuration in HSX RA node

Hi Team,i have started the NW configuration wizard for my Apollo 4200 based HSX nodes . on each node i have 6 interfaces( 2x 1G, 4 x 10G). when i create LACP bond1 in the wizard, i can see all my 6 interfaces available to choose for bond creation and i chose 2 10G interfaces for the LACP bond1 creation and tagged my VLAN to the bond1.However later i can assign “Commserv registration” OR “Management” only on this bond1, i dont see “data protection” and “storage pool” options in the list.any idea what could be causing this ? i have not configured switch link aggregation(LACP) yet , is this the reason i am not seeing data protection or storage pool in the list ?please provide your valuable guidance.

Scheduling AirGap Intervals on HyperScale X Nodes

Hi,am I right in saying that “Scheduling AirGap Intervals on HyperScale X Nodes” pretty much just shuts down access to the HSX between the times you enter ie 9am - 9pm ? https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/scheduling_airgap_intervals_on_hyperscale_x_nodes_01.html Also, if I have a second HSX cluster in my DR Site that just stores AUX copies and I enable scheduled AirGap intervals what happens if an AUX copy is still running as it got delayed ?

HSX installation stuck

  on Apollo 4200 server, we have set up all HW configurations as per Commvault documentation and then loaded ISO in ILO.Later the installation completed as above attached . But when i click "finish" button server reboots and screen is stuck in commvault hypercale page, please guide with next steps. we can see a cursor below, but no response  when we click enter.

HSX Firewall

Hi,I have a new install on Ref Arch version 11.32I am going through the “what to do next” BOL to make sure all is secure. For the Firewall I run # firewall-cmd --state but I do not get a response telling me the state of the firewall.  I run another cmd I found systemctl status firewall and it replies. Any reason why the CV cmd in BOL does not work ?
