we have one commserve server and 3 hyperscale nodes, we are planning to upgrade the hyperscale platform version, where do we start upgrading the 3 nodes?

Hi radi,

More information can be found on the upgrade process within our documentation: https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/installing_operating_system_updates_on_hyperscale_x.html

This will cover any caveats, prerequisites, and the process itself. The OS and the storage system will be upgraded as a result.

Hi @Jon Vengust,

Thank you Jon, I have read the documentation in detail, it seems there are some things I do not understand, for example it is explained that each node will take 90 minutes, is the update process only done on 1 node? The other 2 will automatically be updated, is the update done manually on each node to perform the update.

and also I see to copy the latest hyperscale to the ws / ddb / iso directory. in fact I can't find the iso directory, do I need to create a new directory?

Hi radi,

Storage updates are performed concurrently on all nodes. However, OS upgrades are performed on all nodes one after the other and require booting into the new kernel (therefore a reboot is needed). Logs/Progress can be tracked from the cvupgradeos.log file on the remote software cache node.

Regarding software population, typically this is automated through the Download Software operation which will sync the required OS/storage binaries with the remote software cache. Offline upgrades utilising the metadata file will require you to follow the steps set out in the following documentation article: https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/installing_operating_system_updates_using_metadata_file_on_hyperscale_x.html

Its a long process. Took me about 2 weeks to do 3 clusters.  I followed https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/installing_operating_system_updates_using_metadata_file_on_hyperscale_x.html as reference plus I called CV support to have them do a healthcheck post upgrade

Yes it can be a long a tedious process depending on the size and number of clusters to upgrade.

I’m glad our support team were able to help you out with a health check as well.
