We are looking at trends in Commvault to provide forecasting on the onsite storage (Hyperscale X). We need to provide the client with possible dates of when the storage will run out based on the past 6 months usage.

We are busy implementing a CV metrics server but not sure if this will provide the result/report we need.

Hello PauIV,

forecasting can show detailed storage usage information for Hyperscale X, including current capacity, free space, historical growth, and usage trends through the Command Center and the Metrics Reporting Server. These reports help you understand how storage has grown over the past months by showing historical data and deduplication efficiency. However, Commvault does not provide an automatic prediction of “when storage will run out” or a calculated run-out date. The Metrics Server does not generate a forecast or estimate future exhaustion; it only displays usage trends that administrators can review to plan capacity expansions. Commvault recommends monitoring the trend data and expanding Hyperscale storage before it reaches high-usage levels (typically before about 85%), ensuring sufficient space for indexing, deduplication, rebalancing, and erasure-coding operations.

HI Siddarth.. Thanks for the reply and happy with that.. but currently I'm even struggling to find those reports that give me those trends? Do you possibly have those report names for me?

Hello PauIV,

To obtain detailed historical usage, trend charts, logical vs. physical size, deduplication ratio, and daily growth patterns for Commvault HyperScale environments, you should use the following reports:

==> 1. Growth and Trends Report

- Purpose: Provides historical usage, trend charts, and growth patterns for storage, including HyperScale.
- Details: Includes charts for media size, application size, number of clients, and deduplication savings over time. You can view data by day, week, or month.
- Deduplication Ratio: The Storage Policy Dedupe Savings chart within this report shows deduplication ratios over time.
- Logical vs. Physical Size: The report displays both application (logical) size and media (physical) size.
- Access: Web Console > Reports > Growth and Trends

==> 2. Subclient Peak Usage Report

- Purpose: Shows peak usage per month for various license types, including HyperScale Storage.
- Details: Includes historical usage and trend charts for HyperScale storage pools, with breakdowns by month.
- Access: Command Center > Reports > Subclient Peak Usage

==> 3. Storage Policy Dedupe Savings Details (within Growth and Trends)

- Purpose: Focuses on deduplication savings for each storage policy.
- Details: Shows percentage of space saved through deduplication, with options for daily, weekly, or monthly views.
- Access: Growth and Trends Report > Storage Policy Dedupe Savings chart > Details

==> 4. Client Monthly Growth Report

- Purpose: Shows monthly growth for each client, including front end size, protected application size, and total size on media.
- Access: Requires Private Metrics Reporting with chargeback feature enabled.
