Hello everyone, Our customer has this interesting question about Hyperscale security. We were explaining WORM to him and how it protects data from deletion at software and OS level. He asked: What if I go to a lower level? What if I connect to the hardware management interface (iLO, BMC, etc.) and delete the whole server? Does Hyperscale implement any security measure to avoid this from happening?Indeed, BMC has some options to eject and even delete disks securely… so this would mean that Hyperscale’s WORM is not as resilient as expected… Does Hyperscale provide any mechanism at that level to avoid the execution of these actions? or would we need to rely on the security features of each hardware vendor?Btw, this is for HyperscaleX Reference Architecture option. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I am getting the following alert from my HSX cluster. cvfs data redistribution pending Any ideas on what could be causing this ?Regards
Is this option also working for Hyperscale X
Is there a new update for archiving with latest version 11.40, and does it compatible with hyperscale version (2.2312)
I am going to have to do a migration from RHeL to Rocky Linux. There has been documentation for this sporadically but ultimately this gets removed and I have had confirmation that this will be possible with similar process to UEFI.I have emailed the migration support but so far not had a response. I need to start planning this in shortly so if anyone has any experience that would be great
Hi,When I install Commvault on hyperscale, part of my screen is cut off. Do you know of a solution? The effect is the same whether I use H5Viewer or JViewer. Zooming in or out doesn't help either. Just to add, everything was OK in the command line of Rocky Linux itself before running the installation.
Hi Guys,I need to upgrade from 11.32 to 11.36 in a live sync, what is the best way doing in full downtime without initiating maintenance failover as described in documents, so if I download and Sync cache can i upgrade active / standby commserve one by one, means first active then standby. Also, MS SQL will be updated along with from 2019 to 2022?After this I can upgrade commvault software on hyperscale-x, is there any need to upgrade hedvig or OS patches as we are currently on 2.2410 and 3.2410 (mix of RHEL and rocky)Please I am waiting for your valuable advice.Regards,AQ
Hello, We are restricting ssh access to our HS nodes using the firewalld. Can Selinux create a conflict with firewald once enabled ( by commvault ) on the nodes ? Thanks
Looking for advice on what model would suit a Greenfield deployment of Commvault to support a small < 20 TB deployment per site at 2 sites. Requirements are pretty simple! Back up some VM’s, Postgres databases, Active Directory with a mix of Windows and Linux OS. We prefer a Windows Commserve so I’m guessing a FREL is in the mix? Must have cross site replication! So.. likely that would equate to 40 TB per site storage? Management are keen on a self-contained appliance(s) solution with integrated storage or onboard storage is preferred BUT two small SANS are doable but not ideal. Unless I’m wrong two Hyperscale X appliances would NOT integrate to allow cross site replication? What alternatives do we have? We would lean towards a server with onboard storage or DAS in preference to a SAN. We don’t need full redundancy per site just resiliency of backups with cross site copies. What can you suggest? We currently maintain a single Commserve, multi site system with a SAN, Media Agents and
we have one commserve server and 3 hyperscale nodes, we are planning to upgrade the hyperscale platform version, where do we start upgrading the 3 nodes?
is it possible to change the network topology after creating the hyperscale x cluster /storage pool
We have a new environment with HSX setup; we have a single copy of the data going to HSX and we retained some backups for 5 years. I am sceptical of this design; apart from not following the best practices of a secondary copy; what are the impacts of storing this data for long term in the same copy? Would it have any impact on DDB (although with design we do have ddb split across multiple nodes); would the chances of corruption of this data would be more?
Hello Team,I would like to know all the cyber security features of Commvault backup solution for a tender I’m working on. Please do not just share the online links but I need an expert who has designed / implemented all the security features to give me a short summary on how to achieve following: In-line Malware Scan → How to achieve this while taking the backup from source? In our case we are using two tier of storage Short-term for daily & weekly backup (Commvault HSX Nodes) & Long-Term for monthy and yearly (Object based storage or Tape) → What are the different and most effective way to achieve air-gap for both the storage tier. Immutability is required for both short-term and long-term (planning to go with Commvault software immutability, since the hardware immutability increases the storage size too much) → What is the best practices to achieve immutability for two tier of storage. HSX nodes - How to completely protect the HSX nodes? Cause if anyone gain access to
We have several hyperscale x clusters, has someone done the os migration from RHEL to Rocky? https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/migrating_hyperscale_x_version_on_existing_nodes.html What is your experiences with this?
we are migrating the data from old library to library , we are creating aux copy and once it is fully synced promoting the copy to primary , but for appawre sp we have snapshot copy as well, how we migrate those data , is it required ?
Dear Team, We are planning to reconfigure the Hyperscale 1.5 with a six-node cluster disk library. During the process, one of the nodes went down due to a system board issue and we are working with Hardware vendor. We would like to know if it's possible to enable backups without the failed node, and later add it back to the same cluster. Will adding the node at a later stage have any impact on the cluster's performance or stability. Regards,Mani D
Hi! We need to update our Hyperscale cluster v2 to v3 before the end of support. It’s a 3 node cluster with about 750TB (50% full). How smooth is the update and how much downtime should I plan for it?JF
Dear Team, we have 6 node hyper scale 1.5 and we are planning to change Data protection network IP’s with respective VLAN. However will not going to change storage pool network IP’s remain same. Please help me how to perform IP change and the pre requisites. Regards,Mani D
Hi,The link on our doc could do with a little more explanation as I've been asked this questions many times now :https://documentation.commvault.com/11.38/expert/resiliency_on_hyperscale_x.html is the below still correct? : HSX Cluster with EC 4:2 erasure coding (3 nodes or 6 nodes for example) can tolerate a total of 2 disk failures across the cluster or a single node ...One would assume a 6 node or more cluster could survive more than 2 disks in total going offline? Shut down / restarting: Erasure Code Block Size (Nodes / Block) Resilience Limit Comments / Description (4 + 2) 3 Nodes 1 node per block Shutdown/reboot only one node at a time. Ensure Commvault services are up on the rebooted node before rebooting the next node in the block. 6 or more Nodes Up to 2 nodes per block Can shutdown/reboot up to two nodes at a time. we configured HPE Apollo based 3 node HSX cluster and all steps went on smooth , however aat end of cluster configuration, storage pool was not created on 2nd node.in command center, i can see all 3 nodes listed as MAs and however nothing is showing under storage pool.Didnt find errors in commserv CVMA.log.i see below entries in CVMA.log in 2nd node, 2488748 25f9ff 03/17 16:32:08 --- Storage pool not configured2488748 25f9ff 03/17 16:32:08 --- skipping checking RWP protection2488748 25f9ff 03/17 16:32:38 ### CVMAStorageProtect::is_storagepool_exist() - Storage pool not configured2488748 25f9ff 03/17 16:32:38 --- Storage pool not configured2488748 25f9ff 03/17 16:32:38 --- skipping checking RWP protection2488748 25f9ff 03/17 16:33:08 ### CVMAStorageProtect::is_storagepool_exist() - Storage pool not configured2488748 25f9ff 03/17 16:33:08 --- Storage pool not configured2488748 25f9ff 03/17 16:33:08 --- skipping checking RWP protection2488748 25f9ff 03/17 16:34:08 --- hedvig daemon is u
we reimaged hyperscale(reference architecure) using iso, unable to get login prompt even after <Alt> + <Ctrl> + <F2> at console level We have 3 nodes,we are able to get login screen on 2 nodes using <Alt> + <Ctrl> + <F2> but on 3rd node,we dont see a login screen we used ctrl+alt+delete on hot keys as well,it doesnot direct to login screen Any suggestions
We have a 6 node HPE Apollo 4200 Gen10 reference architecture cluster that we need to migrate In place from a HyperScale X 2.x cluster to a HyperScale X 3.x cluster. We are currently running at Commvault version 11.32.80.Is it better to upgrade to the latest release of 11.32 or upgrade to the latest release of 11.36 before performing this migration ? Each node has 24 18TB drives. How long will this migration take ?Can backups/restores still run against this cluster while the migration is in progress ?Should the migration process be started from the iLO remote console ?The root password on all 6 nodes are different is this ok ?The migration script says it will ask for “Root password of existing cluster:” Is this the root password of the server we are running the migration script from ? Thanks
Are there any rough timelines when HyperScale X Reference Architecture will support the HPE Alletra Storage Server 4120 ?The HPE Alletra Storage Server 4120 is HPE’s next generation of the currently support model Apollo 4200 Gen 10 Plusttps://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/design_specifications_for_hyperscale_x_reference_architecture.htmlThanks
Hi Team, i have a 3 node HSX cluster and a tape library. unfortunately no FC HBA on HSX nodes. i want to do Aux Copy the backup from HSX to Tape library. Meanwhile MA to tape libary is connected using FC. Tape Library MA and HSX are both connected to Commserv , so how we can establish the data connectivity between MA and HSX, and run the Aux copy to copy backup from HSX to Tape
Hi,New install with 3 x Hyperscale X nodes in this config.Cisco UCSC240M6 and Cisco UCS VIC 15427 The VIC 15427 configured as physical nic mode which creates 4 x vNics om the server.Links are up ( after turning off FEC) and Bond created with LACP.All looks good from the network side but we cannot reach anythine else on the network, not even default gateway.Analysing the switch traffic the ping request gets to the gateway and reply is sent back to the server but the packet is not picked up.Anyone with this configuration that have had similar problems? And if so possible solution?/ G
