Hi,I had a training on ea.commvault.com now since has moved to new portal. I do not see the old trainings. I had certification pending. Mailed my concern to registrar@commvault.com but no help.Please assist.

Does commvault make use of Multi-part upload to S3 compatible HCP/HCP-CS storage?If yes, what's the part size? Can it be modified at the CV ? Does it occur for both non-worm and worm policies? Are there any logs where the parts and upload-ids can be viewed?

Clean orphan data when multiple pools use same S3 buckets?

Hi,Is it safe to run space reclamation with clean orphan data option checked when using cloud library and s3 buckets shared by multiple pools/DDB’s from different grids? Or will it clean the data from the other pools as there are no references to that data in the DDB being cleaned?Thanks

HyperScale Node Failure

How does HyperScale deal with node failures? An issue with the M2 NVME boot drive caused the failure of one of our three nodes Cluster (HS 2300 HSX Appliance). Version 4.7 of Hedvig; with over usable capacity of 88 TB; hosted on SuperMicro servers. We saw that all of our backup jobs had entered a waiting state (there's no indication that the backup entered a waiting state right away. Rather, after a few hours, it stopped). When we checked how much the rf3 discs were being used on the nodes, we found that nodes 2 and 3 secondary space were being used a lot.Commvault TAC informed us that after a node failure, the HedVig File system could only handle a certain amount of data, which in our case was 7TB. After that point, the File system became inaccessible to further writes, which doesn't look completely resilient because it gets hamstrung with capacity if it goes beyond 7 TB even though there is more capacity left in the remaining nodes. Web console fails to start

After setting up an update from version 11.32.59 to 11.32.63 that failed, the commvault web console is not accessible anymore. Not from localhost on the linux server that hosts it, or from any of the clients. It still sends emails that there are updates available for download, but I’m unable to connect to the webconsole. The Web service is running if I go to ip:5000/searchsvc/cvwebservice.svc but I get an unable to connect when trying to log into the console itself.

on-prem Exchange mailbox restore to Exchange online (o365)

Hello community,Im looking for a way to restore an on-prem Exchange mailbox to an Exchange online mailbox (o365).From Exchange restore options menu, I can see only the Exchange (on-prem) as a destination. Also, from Exchange online (o365), there is only the option for Exchange online restore.No option for on-prem Exchange (cross restore). Our version is 11.32.49.Please for your feedback, if cross restore on-prem Exchange ↔ Exchange online is supported in Commvault.Best regards,Nikos

upgrade from 11.28 to 11.32

Hi folks,we are planning to upgrade from 11.28 to 11.32, but we have some questions that maybe you can helps us clarify.Our setup is:Commserve installed in a cluster configuration with 2 serversWindows Server 2016SQL Server 2016At this moment we are not planning to upgrade to a new Windows version or doing a hardware refresh.Some scenarios we are considering.1) Upgrading only the Commvault packages, by using the Download Software within the Commcell. Is there some downside with staying in SQL Server 2016?2) Upgrading SQL Server + Commvault packages, at the same time, by using the Full Media Kit download (including SQL Server packages). I have tried this in a lab, but it didn't upgrade SQL Server, only Commvault packages.3) Can we upgrade in steps like this?3.1) upgrade just the SQL Server using the 2019 install package included in the Full Media Kit. Upgrade on the passive node, then failover the instance to it, then upgrade the other node.3.2) upgrade the Commvault packages.We are con

Data Retention: Purging Full Backup With Incrementals, Retention 1 Day 0 Cycle

Hello,I have a Storage Policy with the disks and retentions shown below. The idea behind this design is shorten the time required to backup to the primary, then Aux copy(slower disks) can be done later. For jobs with a Full(day1), Incremental (next 20 days), I have seen the full and incrementals being retained on the primary and not aging after 1 day. I understand why as the Full and incrementals are needed to restore, but is there any way to age them off the primary as they will be available on Aux Copys. I have been manually deleting the jobs off the Primary as space starts to run out, but the next incremental job automatically converts itself to a Full backup. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.Primary - SSDs 3TBs - Retention 1 Day 0 Cycle Aux Copy - HDDs 40TBs - Retention 21 Day 1 Cycle Aux Copy - Tape Storage

CommandCenter start Synth-Full Backup

Hello, we use cv11.32.63I have the following question: When I start in commandcenter a synth-full backupjob an incremental backup runs before. Is there any way to run only the synth-full backup without incremental backup? I only see this behavior when I start the synth-full backup manuelly. If I define a schedule policy I have a choice run incremental backup before, after or synth-full backup alone. regards Roland

How to increase the number of log file versions in 11.34 for a linux Client in CommandCenter

Hello Community,Since we have the first customers who can no longer use the Commcell Console or only with great effort due to a new installation 11.34, I am currently trying to find support standard functions in the Command Center again.A classic example: how do I set the debug level of a process and the number of versions of the log files on a Linux client. Guidance Needed for Migrating CommVault to Azure IaaS with New CommServe Setup

Hello everyone,I am a Solution Architect and Integrator, and I have recently been tasked with migrating our CommVault infrastructure to IaaS virtual machines on Azure. Currently, our environment consists of a CommServe installed on a Windows Server 2016 virtual machine, with a Media Agent and a proxy server each on separate Windows Server 2016 machines. My goal is to migrate the entire solution to Windows Server 2022 virtual machines on Azure, followed by upgrading the CommVault software from 11.28.117 to the last version.It’s important to note that I was not involved in the initial installation or configuration of this CommVault solution. Multipart upload with respect to nonworm policy and WORM enabled policy

When I use WORM-enabled storage policy to backup a file. I can see from the Object store logs that the PUT requests include partNumber and uploadID. Media Agent Migration: Is Moving the Index Cache Necessary?

Hi Commvault experts,I have one more question regarding the Media Agent migration, specifically about the Index Cache. Is it absolutely necessary to move the Index Cache? In some resources, I've read that it might be possible to skip this step. Is that correct? Can the Index Cache be rebuilt automatically during new backup jobs?Also, is the actual process of moving the Index Cache directory simply a copy-paste operation in the operating system?Once the Media Agent migration is complete, I can close all related threads and provide detailed comments.

Auxcopy from tape to Storeonce

I have a bunch of data in a very end of support tape library. I need to get it out of teh tape library and into somewhere else. If I configure an HPE Storeonce library and use that as an auxcopy target will the storeonce be able to deduplicate the data coming off tape? I’m unfamilair with Catalyst - and I vaguely recall that in an aux copy scenario chunks are moved from place to place without any actual processing that might be required for catalyst/dedupe processing.

Migrating to a new hardware and Commvault version

Planning to move the existing Commvault appliance to a new hardware with bigger disks and SSD’s.Some questions: Current version is CV Version: 11 SP16 HPK17, shall I move to 2022E or 2023E? In the Hardware Refresh Procedure,it is mentioned that the local mount path should be copied to a location accessible to the new server. The size of the local mount path is 10TB. I plan to copy the contents to the new server’s disk library. Copying will be done over the network and I believe it will take some time to complete, so my question is, should I copy over the mount path before i do the CV installation in the new server? What is recommended approach?

IntelliSnap and ISHDM IntelliSnap Linux Host Device Manager

Hello Community Members. We are using Commvault IntelliSnap with Infinidat storage. Everything works fine except the device cleanup on the Linux hosts. Most of the hosts are getting alerts for path failure and IO errors at the end of the IntelliSnap backup while the unmap and device cleanup is performed. We did check the difference between the servers which are not alerting, and which are alerting. The main difference we can see in the IntelliSnap log is about “ISHDM IntelliSnap Linux Host Device Manager”. But I can’t get any explanation about ISHDM on Commvault site or on RedHat. Can you guys help me to understand what does this value /settings does better than normal “classic OS utility interface” If the above setting is not related to IO error/ path error / device cleanup, please let me know if someone experienced these types of issues on Linux hosts while performing IntelliSnap backup. Office 365 & AzureAD authentication methods

We want to configure backups for Office 365 & AzureAD.According to the documentation the most secure method currently available is by registering (multiple) apps which can be configured manually or automatically when using a global admin with temporary MFA disabled.The only possible authentication method seems to be clients secrets which is better than service accounts for sure, but I wouldn’t call it the most secure method either.Not sure if (Azure) conditional access can be applied to the app registrations.Is there any other way possible, such as certificates or even managed identities ?It seems Commvault has possibilities in that direction but only for Azure VM’s.Kind regards,Tom

Commcell console - Saved table layout not available the next day

Hi. In the Commcell console, the table layouts that I saved are back to default the next day. If I saved and logoff and back in, table layout is the saved one. Buy the next day, it’s back to default.Windows server is not part of any domain, so no GPO are involved here. It used to stay saved few months ago, but not anymore. Not sure after which update this behavior started.Is there some sort of conf file being created for my CV user, or is this just send in CV DB?

normal full backup takes 5-7 days should i do synthetic full instead?

I need to protect data found on multiple CIFS shares, totaling about 40 Tb of data.I currently have a backup schedule where i take a full backup monthly, and then incremental backups daily thereafter. The problem is that the full backup takes multiple days to complete.Would it be recommended to take synthetic full backups monthly instead of the fulls?What are the drawbacks of never taking another full backup and going with monthly synthetic fulls only?

I am replacing my Windows 2012 CommVault physical server with new 2019 physical server. I have several disk drives on the current server with commvault backup data I need to retain and I have same configuration on the new server except with larger disks.How do I migrate the CV database & data to new server?
