Question

Browase and restore for Vmware backups

Hello,

Following our upgrade to version 11.36.46 (from 11.32), we have observed an unusual behavior during the browse and restore operations. The file systems are being randomly mounted either on the configured FRE or on one of the HSX nodes designated for server backup.

Since the HSX nodes are still running on RHEL 7.9, the browse operation fails for clients that are on RHEL 8.*.

We likely wouldn't have noticed this issue if the browse operation hadn't failed.

Is this the expecetd way the system operates ?

Thanks

Hi TNO,

Technically a HSX node is a FREL so being used as one isn’t uncommon.
Can you check what is set as the preferred FREL for the VMWare clients? If you go to the VMWare Client > Virtual Server > VMWare then right click and go to properties and access nodes. Does the HSX show up as the default FREL?

You can check the same in Command Center with Protect > Virtualization > Hypervisor > Configure.
There’s a field for the default FREL here too.

Hi @Jace Ross

Yes, FRE is configured on the Vmware Client.

If the FREL is set as default but browse is trying to use a media agent I would suggest raising a support incident to investigate why it is defaulting to this behaviour as it shouldn’t unless the HSX is defined there or no client is defined as a default FREL.
