Migration from Commvault to Commvault Cloud

Forum|alt.badge.img+3

Hi:

Which is the best way to migrate from Commvault to Commvault Cloud? (Metallic) I have been told that there is not an utility to do it and that should be a restore and backup process just like as going from another software to Commvault, but I guess that a lot of customers may have the same requirement.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Best,

Paul

Hi @PaulLedermann ,

You can refer the doc here:

https://docs.metallic.io/metallic/installing_commvault_cloud_package_on_windows_server.html
https://docs.metallic.io/metallic/installing_commvault_cloud_package_on_unix_or_linux_server.html

If you want to move from Commvault to Commvault Cloud, uninstall the Commvault software package locally, and then install the Commvault Cloud packages. To restore old data that was backed up using the Commvault software, reinstall the agent package on the client as a second instance on the Commvault Complete system with the same name and with the Restore Only check box selected.

Hi @PaulLedermann

Can we know what’s the existing CV version here?

Hi @CV_GKr:

Thanks for your reply. The existing CV version is 11.32.

The customer has SQL DB, VMware and File servers on premises and Azure, also with Azure VMware Solution (AVS).

Thanks and regards,

Hi @Ronnie Kaftal

Another question about this topic: Does the Enterprise version also support Forest Recovery for Azure Active Directory (Entra ID)?

Best regards

HI, No, Forest is only for Windows-based domain controllers. I am not sure there is a concept of “Forest” with Entra AD. Entra AD is a Microsoft-hosted service, while Domain controllers are Windows-based. Recovering “Forest” after a scheme corruption or other events requires system state recovery and many more steps, which are documented here https://docs.metallic.io/metallic/forest_recovery_for_active_directory_enterprise_edition.html

Hi, @Ronnie Kaftal

Thanks again. Now it's totally clear.

Regards.
