Upgrade 11.24 -> 11.38, one step?

One of our customers is still on 11.24. They want to upgrade to 11.38. Is this possible in one step? Or is it better to do this in more steps? Thanks!

Third party software security updates

Hello, Security scans are being carried out at many customers' sites and are increasingly pointing out third-party software installed by Commvault and missing security updates. Are the third-party components automatically updated by Commvault updates? Can the updates also be installed manually without any problems? Regards, Thomas

Active Directory Permissions to Back Up Group Policy Objects

Hello! Having just upgraded to 2024E, specifically 11.36.41, I notice the Active Directory agent now supports backups for GPO as documented here - Great. Changes in Commvault Platform Release 2024E However, the permissions required are not particularly helpful: Permissions to Back Up Group Policy Objects via PowerShell: The account must have the necessary permissions to back up GPOs using PowerShell cmdlets. By default, members of the Remote Management Users group possess these permissions. My question is, if you don’t want the account to be a member of “Remote Management Users” or admin groups, what granular permissions can be set on the account to still achieve the backup? full error:----- Currently whilst the backup is completing for AD as it always has, its now completing but with error “Failed to process group policy object”.Error Code: [28:548] Description: Failed to process group policy object. Backups not working after Qumulo update to 7.4.1

Hello Everyone, my customer is running Commvault in version 11.32.83 and Qumulo in version 7.4.0. After he updated to Qumulo 7.4.1, Qumulo backups began to fail at the scan phase with the error: “Failed to create snapshot or build snapshot information” Rolling back to Qumulo 7.4.0 resolves the issue. I’ve found that Commvault is aware of this issue and is working on the fix. Will the fix be included in future MR’s of 11.32? Best regards, Aleksandra

backups stopped working file and sql

Seems friday our backups stopped working for file and sql. I show cvd.exe faulting in application logs on all of the serves for the agent. I strongly think this was from some update or upgrade from Commvault. All agents in portal show “Not ready”. On each box I can see the metallic communication service going off and on every few minutes. Something changed and its for everything. No support on weekends so things just aren’t backing up. Need any help if possible. I have restarted our on prem media gateway - no change I have restarted a few of the SQL servers - no change dont see anything changed in Firewall. no denies etc I can reach Media agents from clients Any ideas? Version is 11.38.15 on all agents and media agent.

Agent upgrade strategy

Hi, We’re about to start upgrading the agents on the client servers and I’m curious how others are handling this activity. Of the course the goal is to have a successful upgrade and don’t cause any disruption. For the overall approached we will be using this: Updating Commvault Software on a Server Group https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/updating_commvault_software_on_server_group_01.html We will be grouping our client servers into patch groups of 25 clients. Besides stopping the schedule policies and any running jobs what else should we be aware of? Also is anyone perhaps using a blackout window when performing the upgrades? It looks like you can add that to a server group but I’m not sure if it’ll work or not? It’s just to be 100% sure nothing will start while performing the upgrades. Last thing, we have some SAP HANA log backups that are being triggered from client side so they will not be stopped when the schedule policies are disabled. What is the best way to han

Vulnerability for Microsoft .NET 8.0

Hello, one of my customers is running CV 11.32.89 and .Net 8.0.406. Their Security Team discovered vulnerability in the current .Net version and advised to update to .NET_9.0_SDK_(v9.0.200)_x64. However, in the Commvault KB I see, that manual DotNet updates to another major version (e.g. 8->9) are generally not allowed: Manual Upgrade of .NET Core Runtime Could you please advise how the customer can proceed to handle the vulnerability? Dear Support Team, We are planning to upgrade our Commvault environment from the current version 11 SP16 (HPK38) to the latest available version (11.38). Please confirm the following points: Upgrade Path: Is there a mandatory intermediate step(s) through version(s) 11.28 (2022E) or/and 11.32? Are there any additional constraints in our configuration? Issues with Connections building up on CommServe after upgrading to 11.36.39

We upgraded from Commvault 11.32 to 11.36.39 on Jan 22, 2025, ever since we’ve upgraded we are having issues where all our jobs start going into pending then failing. From Commvault developers all they can tell us is that Connections are not closing on the Linux CommServer. They are not able to tell us why this is happening, is there anyone else running a Linux CommServer and upgrading to 11.36.39 and having these type issue?

Hello, for planning my own roadmap, I need to know when backup&recovery of MongoDB clients on version 8.0 are going to be supported. Until now only version 7.0 can be found on documentation and version 6 is going to be out of support middle of 2025. When and for which Commvault Platform Release will MongoDB 8.0 be released? The software version on client backing up as VM with FSA agent installed shows missing latest feature release

I have clients that I was previously backing up as a FSA, I released the FSA license and starting backing them up as VM’s. The software version on client backing up as VM with FSA agent released shows missing latest feature release I would like to continue backing them up as VM’s, I just don't want them to show up on the Software Version report as missing the latest feature release. What are my options ?

Vulnerability scans detect CommVault Dotnet framework package 6.0.16

Hi Good Day, We have recently upgraded CommVault server to latest version 11.36.35 which use the Dotnet framework version 8.0.11. This was to fix the Dotnet version 6.0.16 vulnerability issue. Even after the upgrade the security scan detect 6.0.16 package on the CommVault server. When I check the add/remove program it shows both 6.0.16 and 8.0.11 packages. Not sure why, as it supposed to be maintained the version 8.0.11. Appreciate your help on this matter. How to fix it.

Commvault Platfrom update from 11.24 to latest LTS 11.36

We would like to upgrade commvault from 11.24.153 to latest LTS 11.36. Please share the below queries. Is there any complexity to upgrade directly to latest LTS 11.36? We are using Active/Passive CommServe nodes with live sync. Please share a upgrade procedure with livesync enviroment. Current SQL version is 2019 - 15.0.4236.7 and Windows Server version is 2019 standard. Do we need to upgrade windows as well as SQL to 2022 or 2025 separatly or it would initiate automatically during upgrade process?

Hello, Has anyone encountered a problem with content indexing of exchnage online after fresh install of 11.36 or update to 11.36? I tried several times and content indexing always failed. How to rollback CommServe in an upgrade failure situation. CS and MA on same server.

Hello good day, I’m planning to upgrade CommVault server from version 11.24.134 to 11.36.56. CS/MA is a physical serve. DDB and Disk Library are hosted on the same server. Upgrade procedure is fine. Not very sure how is the rollback plan. Understanding if any upgrade error occur it will not automatically rollback. DR backup configured no DR-Live sync. If CS server has a media agent role and data on it how to do this, because we could not uninstall CS before uninstalling the media server. Is it possible to repair CS software using install package as it has an option for repair but not sure it is applicable for a CS server, then restore the DB using DR backup set. Definitely we must log a support case. I need to plan how to rollback/reinstate CommServe (CS, MA, Disk-Library & DDB are on same box) in a situation of an upgrade failure. Please help.

Hi Team, Is there a procedure to upgrade from 11.32 or 11.34 to 11.36?I had some impressions and thus the need to ask the following questions arose.1- I want to upgrade from 11.32 or 11.34. It is said that a system that performs pre-upgrade check has arrived and the latest patch for Windows and SQL Server must be installed. Even though the latest patch is installed, the error persists.2- As far as I see in the document, 11.36 only uses SQL Server 2022.3- In this case, when I want to upgrade SQL Server itself directly from 2016 or 2019 to 2022, I get an error again.4- First, DR Backup will be taken, then Commvault and SQL Server will be uninstalled. After reinstalling 11.36, the DBs taken with DR Backup will be shown to the environment, is this correct?
