Software Upgrades and Updates

I have a ticket open for this already, but a number of Commvault techs seem to be stumped, so figured I’d post here. We have a single all-in-one windows commcell server, that is airgapped and has no direct internet access. We use it solely to back up desktops and notebooks, so we have deployed the Windows Edge Monitor agent to all of them. I thought that if you downloaded a new MR, and ran the install, not only does it stop the services, do all the hotfixes, and restart the services - that it should also update the software cache so you’ll be ready to update your Windows laptop agents as soon as it is done. This does not appear to be the case, as we just did this, and while the new version number appears in the command center dashboard as well as the bottom of the commcell console, there are no newer agent versions appearing in the software cache. If we try to do a copy software job to add the newer MR to the software cache, commvault will fail that job, saying “Error Code: [68:481] De

Hi,We are installing a new server W2022 Commvault 11.32 from W2012+11.20+SQL2012 from a DR Backup. As we understand, this update path is allowed.The process of installation was fine, but at the step restore an upgrade DB from DR Backup, The process begins and is progressing well, but fail with:FATAL ERROR - DBScriptsPath value does not exist in DBUpgradeSteps table. How to upgrade Commserver from the version of 11.12 to 11.28

Hello!In the latest platform release 2024 (11.34), the option to select “All agents” for a full backup was removed. The change note states “Full Schedules apply to database backups. For other agents, each backup job will back up only the new and modified items and create a full recovery image. Therefore, running repeated full backup is not required.” It links to the “Server plans” page of the documentation, but not much else is mentioned there except for step 5 in “Creating a plan” which states, “To specify additional backups, such as weekly full backups, move the Extended retention rules toggle key to the right, and then add rules.”Does this mean that all server backup plans use synthetic backups by default if it is not a database? My use case is largely running application consistent backups for virtual machines. Currently our backup policies state the exact day and time that weekly/monthly/yearly full backups will run, which may need to change to keep compliant if we are not able to

Do we need to update clients' agents when we upgrade Commcell? Will it continue to take backup without updating? Is it a problem?

Hello,Currently, we are using version 11.20 of Commvault on a Commserve Windows 2012 and SQL version 2012 server. The Commserve is a VM.  We want to upgrade the Commvault version to 11.28 and we need to upgrade the OS version and SQLServer to Windows 2022.What is the correct method to follow to upgrade Commvault?Can we  upgrade the OS and SQL version into 2022 and then install version 11.28 of Commvault : in this case, we need go through intermediate versions? Could this cause database corruption? Or is it better to rebuild the VMs?Thank in advance for your response.

I’m currently running 11.30.64 and tried to download 11.34.5 but after 40 minutes the job reported 0% progress.  I killed the first download job and am now trying to download 11.32.35 and it also seems to be going nowhere.  Is anyone else having problems downloading patches?Ken

Hi! We’re slowly planning some upgrades to our Commvault installasjon, where we’re planning to go from 11.24 to 11.32 (which i understand can be done with a direct upgrade from .24 to .32)….. but we also plan to upgrade the Commvault MSSQL installasjon, which is currently an older MSSQL versjon, The question is, should we upgrade the DB first, or Commvault ? Any recommendation ?

I am reaching out regarding an issue I have encountered while attempting to use Commvault 11.32.35, specifically with the Command Center.I have followed the installation process diligently, including the implementation of .NET version 3.1.32 as instructed. Unfortunately, the Command Center is not responding as expected.To address this issue, I also attempted the installation using .NET version 8, but the results were equally unsatisfactory.I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. Hello all!We have received a request to update Java on our Commvault Servers - Comservers and media agents.Are there any dependencies between Commvault Services and Java version which we need to keep in mind? Are You aware of any “compatibility” matrix for Java version and Commvault? Can we just easily upgrade Java and should not be worry about Commvault Services?

HiI noticed in the documentation a note about the lack of Commvault support for Table level restores.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/20248_configuring_oracle_subclients_for_table_level_restores.html “If you use Oracle 12c or a more recent version, you can only use this procedure for databases that are not Container Databases (CDB). To restore tables in Container Databases, you must use the RMAN command line.” Are there any plans to support this via the GUI going forwards? Container Databases have been a feature in oracle for over a decade now.   

Hello everyoneWe have strange problem with assighnmen of the unix gropup for oracle data agnet.Machine is added as client trough commcell console and the following agents are instaled: file system core, file system agent and oracle agent.There is no firewll betwen commcell server, media agent server and client.Client machine OS is AIX 7.1.During installation setup we assign the Unix group "dba" .After installation finished successfuly we start file backup and it finished successfuly so we asume everything work fine.When we try to initiate backup of oracle data base it give us an error ORA-19506: failed to create sequential file and the job stay in pending state.We checked what group is assigned to /opt/commvault/ , /etc/CommVaultRegistry/ and it seams everything in this directories are with propper unix grou "dba".We checked ORASBT.log log file ,and there were errors that it cannot read this files in registry./etc/CommVaultRegistry/Galaxy/Instance001/iDataAgent/.properties/etc/CommVaul

Hi guys. We have a customer running Commvault v11.24 (Commserve and 1x Media Agent) on Windows 2012. An OS upgrade to W2019 + CV upgrade to v11.32 will be happening soon. It’s a small environment with Exchange Compliance Archiver Agent installed on the CommServe server archiving a few email msgs from legacy systems per day on Exchange on-prem. The Search node for this agent is running on the Media Agent however the Index sits on the CommServe server. The decommissioning of this environment will happen in 12-18 months only. From the Deprecation Note...  https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/157248_deprecation_notice_for_exchange_compliance_archiver_agent.html...the replacement is the new Exchange Agent. A new client server will be created and the new Exchange agent installed on it. The idea is to keep the Commserve server clean and steady without any other role running. But, in replacing and decommissioning the old Exchange Agent what happen with the Search Node and index?

We are working on getting all our backup media servers patched up so they are up to date.   Once patched how do you patch or confirm the physical servers with the agent loaded get up to date.ThanksMike
