If you need to shut down one side of a Commvault LiveSync HA setup, here’s the safe way to do it so you don’t mess up the DDB or lose data:

  • First, check if the CommServe you’re shutting down is the active one. If it is, do a planned failover to the standby node.

  • Pause or let any running jobs on the MediaAgent finish, and put the MA in maintenance mode so nothing new starts.

  • Gracefully stop all Commvault services on both the CS and MA.

  • Use the PowerVault/PowerStore management tools to shut down the storage arrays gracefully (make sure there’s no active I/O).

  • Once all that’s done, power off the servers.

Don’t skip the failover or maintenance steps otherwise, you risk DDB or data issues. This order keeps everything clean and safe.
