Hello all!I would like to get insights on what should be our best deployment scenario.Consider a 3 node HSX RA where each node has 2 FC ports (2 physical ports).Consider a FC SANConsider a FC storage system (providing VMware datastores)Consider a FC Tape Library Scenario 1Each node connected to the FC SAN via the two physical ports and zoned via one port to the FC storage and the other port to the Tape LibrarySo, each node has one path to tape library and one path to storage. This way every node (which is an MA) can write backups to tape AND also run VSA SAN transport mode backups from ESXi hosts Scenario 2One or two nodes connected to the FC SAN and zoned via the two FC ports to FC StorageThe remainder node(s) connected to the FC SAN and zoned via the two FC ports to Tape LibrarySo, each node has two ports, either to Storage or Tape. This way I get path failover to storage and tape. But each node gets specialized in writing tape backups OR backing up VMware via SAN transport mode. Doe
Both updated iso’s from commvault store for hyperscale x deploy do not have the intellesnap package preinstalled. Was this on purpose? I mean obviously it can be installed. - just seems like something that would be there. Just curious.
Hello all, I'd like to understand the steps taken by Commvault when a VSA backup from a vSphere environment uses a HSX block as access nodes/proxy. Consider that vSphere datastores are FC SAN based LUNs. So, best performance would be to use SAN transport mode on the cvlt side. During the backup operation, how the datastore LUNs are presented to the appliance? I saw in the docs the following: "For Linux proxies, you might need to rescan the SCSI or iSCSI bus after attaching devices. For MediaAgents on the HyperScale 1.5 Appliance or HyperScale X Appliance, you can use the rescan-scsi-bus.sh script to force a rescan." So, that rescan procedure, when it is required? Everytime a new datastore is presented to the virtual environment? If there's no new datastore, it is done only once during HSX deployment? Regards,Pedro
Hello, We're going to soon deploy a HyperScale X Reference Architecture with 3 nodes. I would like to know, since I didn't find anywhere else, if HSX can be the proxy/access host for my VSA based backups. Can each node be a proxy? Can it perform the File Recovery Enabler (Linux VM file restore) role? Can it perform Windows VMs file recovery? My virtual environment is VMware vSphere 7. Kind regards,Pedro Rocha
Hi , I have a customer that is exploring if a single HSX cluster can be managed by via 2 different commserve. His second commcell is for a small robo environment . Due to budget issues, he does not has the capital to start a new HSX cluster, hence he is thinking of leveraging an existing HSX cluster that is already tied to commcell A. Wonder if this is possible?
