i dont have a dedicated non-routable backup network, but i can have redundancy and i have multiple VLANs for my clients, so the commvault hyperscale X document says to use Bonded VLAN topology as per below link,https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/expert/determining_network_topology_for_hyperscale_x_reference_architecture_setup.html.my question is, if i still can have a dedicated 1GbE link on my HSX reference architecture node, then can i use that 1 GbE port dedicated for management traffic, like connection to commserv, DNS ? if answer is yes, then does it become Bonded VLAN topology with management network ? however as per topology determination table, we use Bonded VLAN topology with management network when we dedicated non-routable backup network.someone please help to confirm this.
Hi Team, based on below Hyperscale reference architecture deployment link, i have following questions.https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/deploying_hyperscale_x_reference_architecture_with_tagged_vlan_with_bonding_and_management_network.html questions:in below screenshots, we are adding a VLAN routable data protection network on Bond1 and document says this is also used for commserv registration. The IP address we mention for this vlan tagged interface of hyperscaleX node should be an available IP from the VLAN range/Subnet range correct? as per below screenshot, since this will be a routable data protection network, should i be giving the Gateway IP address of this routable VLAN network as the “Default Gateway” ? as shown below, since i also has a dedicated management interface for hyperscaleX node, and if this can also be used for accessing commserv server via its own gateway IP adress, in that should i be giving gateway IP of management network as “Default Gateway” ? so
The HyperScale nodes and the CommServe are separated by a firewall, the only way that we want to communicate is through proxys gateway. Is it possible to complete the hyperscale setup without a direct connection and using a network topology for cascade proxys ?We proceeded with ./registertocs.py as suggested on https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/unable_to_connect_to_commserve_server_behind_firewall_during_setup_01.html, but this failed with a timeout to CS.We also added: /etc/CommVaultRegistry/Galaxy/Instance001/HyperScale/.cvmanager.cfg:[Step_Control:ValidatePreInstall]validate_cs_setup=SKIP [Step_Control:Install]self.register_with_cs=SKIP Thank for you help.
Hi all, I am in the process of designing an isolated HSX environment. If I share what I am thinking could people have a look and advise me where I could improve. Build my 3-node reference architecture cluster on 11.32 which same subnet as my CommServe & Proxy servers. Each node will have a bonded Active-Backup for Data Protection & Storage Pool . All nics with be connected to a pair of Dell 10GB switches, these switches will have a Data Protection & Storage Pool vLAN created. The Data Protection vLAN will then be connected to the Core Switch. Next, I build two Windows 2022 proxy servers that have FS & VSA agents.I will then configure CommVault network topology to only allow these two proxies talk to my HSX nodes. Finally on my Dell switch I will create an access list to only allow the IP addresses of my proxies talk to the HSX nodes. Any feedback would be great.
we are failing to create 3 node Hyperscale 1.5.1 cluster (reference architecture ) the library was created but it’s offline with this error- Library status offline due to incomplete storage pool configuration. Please wait for other media agents to join this storage pool library configuration.the media agent for all 3 servers is ready.the version is 11.32.43 (commserve + the three Hyperscale nodes) is it possible to fix the issue ? or we need to format and install again ?
IHAC looking to deploy HSX RA and create bonded vlan’s has the following question. Can the data protection bonded interfaces be configured for a vlan that will work with dot1q/VLAN sub-interfaces? If yes, which topology we need to use? This will allow the interface to talk to multiple VLAN’s. Background:https://www.ciscopress.com/articles/article.asp?p=2990405&seqNum=2
Hi Commvault Experts, I have been trying to find documentation on adding a new network (vlan network) on the Data Protection Network on the Hyperscale X based on Reference Architecture. The Hyperscale is already deployed with topology of tagged vlans and LACP.These are new servers that we need to backup, however on a new vlan. Please guide on what are the steps that need to be followed.RegardsDaryl
Hello! I’m currently looking to see if commvault has a configuration that we can set so the user dbs are not being backup on servers that’s being backup. Currently I am following the documentation outlined, Excluding User Accounts from Backups (commvault.com) , but I’m wondering if this can be set as a default settings to exclude user dbs. from backups.
Hello everyone, instead of assigning management permissions to a Hyperscale X after it has been configured (hsxsetup), is it possible to use the tenant admin account during the join to the commserve phase? Thanks and regards
Hello,I have a customer with Hyperscale X that currently set with a single card for Data Protection Network and another single card for the Storage Pool. There is a documentation or reference that I can use to change the actual network configuration to LACP or Active/Passive when everything is on production ?Thanks,Christian
Hello Team, Is Apollo 4200 Gen10 supported for installation of Hyperscale X to an existing commcell version of 11.32. in documentation i see both as ‘supported’ and ‘deprecated’ as below.please help to confirm
Hi, I just have a question that in the File Level Backup, we have an option to use VSS, and the default for this option is to use for the locked files only. I have 1 physical server, and Commvault gave an ERROR CODE [7:332]: “High contribution of backup data from locked files is observed. Consider enabling VSS for all files for this subclient for more efficient backups, while monitoring to ensure that the VSS snapshot does not unduly affect the performance of the computer.” So, should I enable the VSS to all files instead of locked file only?Thank you.
Hi I am trying to run CVDiskPerf on a HyperScale X ver. 3 node that have ransomeware protection enabled. I am logged in as root, but when I am trying to execute the cvdiskperf command, I am getting “-bash: ./CVDiskPerf: Permission denied”.I have used this command on a HyperScale X ver. 2 cluster without any permission issues when I am logged in as the root user.Does any one know how to solve this problem=
Can we add 7 HPE apollo nodes initially in hyperscale X and do the initial installation and bring up the configuration OR should it be i start with 3 nodes first and complete the set up and installation initially and then add rest of the 4 nodes one by one ? i see below information in documentation.
Hi,We have to change some of our network card on our hyperscale x appliance. We want to know if we have to use the procedure for refreshing hyperscale x appliance nodes just to reconfigure network or is there any other ways ?Regards
i have got 3 x HPE Apollo nodes, which i want to deploy Hyperscale X, as per below Commvault Hyperscale X reference architecture document , we should validate version of hyperscaleX in the "preparing environment step". i dont understand how we can check version when we don’t have installed ISO yet on the server.my understand is, we install hyperscale X ISO on baremetal server, and this ISO also contains RHEL.https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/expert/checking_hyperscale_software_version_for_reference_architecture.html. Also , as per below link of “Setting Up the Installation Media”, if i directly mount ISO on each Server A,B,C and then when i start installation on server A, it will also start installation in Server B, C automatically or i need to manually login to Server B,C and start installation ? or both works ?Also link says about using another windows system, why do we need it and how can we access KVM of the new hyperscale X servers ?https://documentation.commvault.com/202
Hello,Is it possible to find a match between the Hedvig rpm version and the CVFS version ?Thanks and regards
HelloWe plan to use NetApp CSeries QLC as a Disk Library for high performance restore with HyperScale-XDo we need additional Media Agent to have the primary copy directly written to the NetApp Array then pushed to tape from the HyperScale-X nodes ?Thanks
Hi guys :)Why is the restore performance so bad for big single item files like vmdk’s (100-400GB/hr)?Got the information that restores (for single Item) only reads from four disks simultaniosly, and the disks are HDDs, so random reads/throughputs are usually slow (by design). Support can’t help because it’s not an issue, and we have to live with it (if we want to stick with HSX). But thats not acceptable by our customers. Is there anything we can do?ThxKr
Hello Team,Just want to check, our requirement is that to take backup of 200 vms on nutanix with vmware environment. All the VMs are replicating with Nutanix to 2nd site. We want take backup of Commvault those vms.Pls advise best practise using network based or snap based backup on this environment. We are using hyperscale 3 nodes. Some of the vms want to take application aware backup. And what is the best process will follow ransomware protection on Hyperscale environment. Thanks in advance.
Hi,We are going to setup HyperScale X to our customer. As you know they need to create DNS records. Customer said they will do DNS records but they have a question for Active Directory integration. They are using IDM server for adding Linux servers to Windows AD. Question is;Is it possible to add HyperScale X nodes to AD with IDM?
installed intellisnap in one of the media agent , agent installed successfully and job got failed . now all media agents are up but i am not able enable the root account or cvbackupadmin of this media agent and i cannot login to any of the media agent using root but cvbackupadmin is able to login. i am not sure is it caused because intellisnap instllation ,i have attached log if some one can help
Hi, I want to know if there is a procedure when we want to migrate an existing hyperscale X to an existing commserve? Regards
Hi,I just have a question that does Commvault have a sandbox? I want to test restores or disaster recovery without affecting my production environment. I’m using HyperScale X and the version is at 11.28.102 currently.Thank you.
i*m using Hyperscale x nodes that are also Vsaproxyswhen adding a new Fcdisk to the node it will not be discoverd automatically. Is there an option to let discover the Hyperscale node the SAN Disk. ..Chr
