Hi,

I am getting the following alert from my HSX cluster.

cvfs data redistribution pending

Any ideas on what could be causing this ?

Regards

Hello,

The alert “cvfs data redistribution pending” is generated by the Commvault HyperScale X system when the CVFS detects a pending internal redistribution of data across disks or nodes within the cluster. This redistribution is part of the normal functioning of the CVFS to maintain optimal resiliency and performance in a scale-out storage environment.

Probable causes of this alert
==============================

The alert typically occurs due to one or more of the following events:

1. Disk Replacement or Addition
   A new disk has been added or a failed disk has been replaced. Redistribution ensures that data is balanced and resilient across the storage pool.

2. Node Recovery or Rejoin
   A node that was offline has come back online and needs to be brought up to date with the cluster data distribution.

3. Manual Operations
   Admin-triggered operations like disk cleanup, rebalancing, or reconstruction.

4. Unfinished or Stalled Data Movement
   A previous redistribution task started due to one of the above conditions but hasn’t yet completed.

What You Should Do
===============================

1. Check Status in Command Center:

   - Go to Command Center → Storage → HyperScale Dashboard.
   - Review any active jobs like Reconstruction, Rebalancing, or Disk Replacement tasks.

2. Wait for Redistribution to Complete:
   In most cases, redistribution completes automatically in the background. Monitor the progress in Storage Pool Tasks.

3. Check for Blocked Tasks:
   If the redistribution remains pending for a prolonged time, there could be:

   - A blocked or failed disk.
   - A node in partial or failed state.
   - An interrupted background task.

This alert is not necessarily an error, but an indication of a required background process. As long as the redistribution proceeds and completes successfully, no action is needed. If it's stalled, it may need further investigation into disk or node health.
